Why? Steam isn't going anywhere, it's still a strong and steady platform, and from what I've heard it provides everything you as a developer would need for your game with steamworks, including that recent DDOS thing that they've been working on for a while and a strong anti-cheat. Just because misinformed idiots with an extreme anti-Steam hardon shout loudly enough to misinform bypassers doesn't mean its going to die. And if it was that is it really that hard to say it when asked for the reason? instead of deflecting it with piss poor reasons like "Dont like it? Make your own game" and "Xenophobia"
If you don't have anything to say, just don't say it instead of acting childish and treating us like dumbasses. Thanks to you my vision of FP was severely affected and now I see that you are literally like any other company, seeking profit and giving no fucks about the users and their concerns.
Yes I know pretty well what's going on.
@Layla I'm not saying the API you're using is being used for anything malicious now, but i do wonder if there are measures in place to prevent an update to the library from sneaking in a way to collect personally identifiable information. Can you assure us that any changes made to the library that could be interpreted as malicious will be caught before being included in an update to the game?
I don't have to answer shit, @Sam has already given you a valid explanation and you choose to ignore it. Play your little conspiracy game if you want but I got better shit to do than be a part of it.
Yeah we chose to ignore because all we have right now is speculation and you just want to act like a cry baby and insult anyone that finds it suspicious that you've moved to a platform that offered the exact same data as the previous one you've used. We chose to ignore because it wasn't said by a FP employee, that's why. And instead of you just simply quoting and confirming it, you decided to attack us, dodge the question and say we're xenophobes.
Yeah, maybe learn how treat others, specially if that is part of you work. Thanks for confirming us that you hide something.
This is a kind of post I’ve seen have long bans, even permabans on it and it’s coming from a moderator
"The Steam API does exactly the same job as what we've chosen for Garry's Mod" "Then why change it to a different system all of a sudden?" "I don't have to answer shit. Shut up xenophobe conspiracy theorists" Why so defensive about simply explaining the sudden change to a different companies analytics program? I'm not talking about any China connections, i'm simply affronted and find the reaction bizarre to a very simple question.

Your rude hostility has made this far more suspicious than any Chinese connection ever could tbh
what's with the hostility, is it so hard to answer a question instead of deflecting it every single time?
What answer? from someone we dont even know is working for FP? The data it collects by showing the libraries used? Sure thats an answer, But when Willox was asked, and you too to answer a simple question "Why switch from steam analytics to a company to a different provider, one that is chinese acquired" the only answers you've given us, the consumers and community are "You're Xenophobes" and that we should "Make our own game if you dont like what we're doing" And every post you've made from there on has been walking around in circles repeating the same things, trying to keep this going in circles until everyone just forgets or gets tired. Make a proper answer instead of insulting your own playerbase and community
I see Facepunch has a corporate culture of being assholes to their customers and other people in general.
You can act high and mighty when the UK finally Brexits, until then Facepunch as a company is under EU consumer protection laws and GDPR, and your hostile responses only prove that some shadier shit is going on behind the curtains.
Since you're answering the questions here, would you mind answering mine if you can?
Except they didn't tell us why.
We are not attacking anyone, we ask simple questions and we received insults and we were treated like idiots and "retards". Don't try to make us the bad guys here
Uh oh
what if edward snowden created jbmod and gov wanted his extradition for leaking physgun source code, plot thickens
Then why keep deflecting? Why treat everyone that has been asking for an answer with hostility and ad hominem responses towards the community that are asking for a proper response from an employee of Facepunch Studios. Solokiller even raises a valid and important question: and the only response from Layla from that point has been: Treating the people that want a proper answer as a bunch of conspiracy theorists. Not even bothering to try and adress what Solokiller mentioned.
Honestly guys, Layla always responds like this regardless if they're being serious or not. You will only get so much infomation out of someone who has a stick permanently lodged up their ass and doesn't want to answer your questions but does so anyway.
It only serves to make the community distrust FP Studios even more, they're practically a walking PR nightmare with these responses

I think this thread is proof Facepunch as a studio needs a PR team.
Can you gaurantee that of any API? Tech to pilfer data could be put into absolutely any closed source API, analytics ones are just spookier because it seems "more obvious".
No, it's coming from a Facepunch developer. If Layla considered themselves a mod of Facepunch they'd be the worst mod ever to exist.
Personally I don't have a problem with games tracking shit like how long I play or what my PC specs are, I just want to be asked first. Also for the employees of the company to not act like idiots and insult people for asking them simple questions.
The issue is that it's not just the game developers that are tracking you. The analytics company straight-up admits that they are using the data they gather for profit in other contexts (ie they're selling it to advertisers) Facepunch's official response is... "fuck off idiots lmao tencent I love discord or whatever I'm layla I'm incapable of an actual conversation"
The problem is that this transparency is still not GDPR compliant. The only way to opt-out, which should technically be opt-in, is to delete the analytics module. From decompiling the dylibs, I can confirm no additional data than that listed is being tracked (I haven't checked Windows or Linux distributions but I assume they are the same), but it doesn't solve the overarching legal concern which Facepunch has been notoriously slow to. I mean, the ToS was finally updated after someone threatened lawsuit after numerous prior warnings in the Next Update thread and Rubat called them "anal" about the situation. It seems all Facepunch employees are flippant about the rights of their users in assumption no one will care. Does it really require someone to threaten to go to court for changes to be made?
