Because Steam is a company with a longstanding reputation that most of us trust while the other one is a random company most of us has never heard of, which has been acquired by a Chinese parent company (who have poor track records of respecting privacy), and whose site apparently states that they use this information for their own profit? Or you could just... Address peoples' concerns and once that's done they'll no longer have anything to whine about? All people are asking for is really just transparency. And this sort of condescending attitude only raises more suspicions than it dispels. Honestly what is so difficult about actually communicating with people when the entire issue could be solved by simply conversing with them like actual human beings? Unfortunately Layla has always been like this, even before he became a Facepunch employee. In fact if I recall correctly he was on his last chance or had just blown his last chance for this exact garbage attitude just before he was hired. And thus he never learned his lesson. This sort of customer service and communication form devs really doesn't do them any favors. People like Layla should really keep in mind that FPS got where it was despite Garry's awful attitude towards his community. Not because of it.

I doubt he'll do it. The only feeling of power he has probably comes from telling us that he's gonna shut down the forum. If he actually does it he'll have nothing left We're like one of a handful of communities that are even aware that 'Garry' is a real person and not just some name that was slapped onto a mod to make it sound quirky.

Honestly, glad I uninstalled the game, but to be frank: Their stated reasons are bullshit. Why would you update the performance of a game that you actively made performance worse? Why would you need this information about performance from a game that doesn't even share engines with your newest games? How does this have anything to do with S&Box, a UE4 game whose engine could not be more inextricably different? Why did you fail to follow GDPR? from all expecations you're not leavng the EU anymore. Why are you so incapable of answering questions 1 - 4 before bringing up China?

I am currently learning Non-Violent communication and want to remember everyone, that both sides are communicating very destructively.

One side is customers with a legitimate interest in knowing what their data is doing, and the other side is a business with vast resources that absolutely refuses to communicate any actual facts or reason and instead chooses solely to belittle its customers and their concerns. It's ludicrous to act as if both parties share similar responsibilities here. Facepunch studios is a big boy and has the money to hire people who aren't going to do this shit. They have the responsibility to us, not the other way around.

On one hand I wish people didn't immediately jump to the worst conclusion and start spewing misinformation, on the other hand is it really that hard to not handle every interaction with your so-called community like a child? Garry seems to have a really bad habit of stirring up more drama instead of ever trying to deescalate. Is it that hard to be up-front about the data you're collecting? Is it that hard to give users clear notice of these changes? Is it that hard to give them the option to opt-out? All of this is really basic stuff that anyone working with these tools should be aware of, especially with the increasing concerns and legislation over user privacy. Unfortunately considering Garry's past behavior, none of this really surprises me.

Ok, so, this doesn't look great... Good to have the guide for disabling the DLL (thank you much), but for now I will prob just keep Gmod uninstalled. Still, if I decide to return to it in the future at least I know there's a way to disable this stuff.

The comments on this thread made by FP staff and devs have finally done it for me. I'm going to knockout. Disgusting how mods/staff (whatever the fuck layla is, every non member/gold is green for whatever reason) treats this community. Wouldn't doubt they have free reign to treat us however they like because Garry wants us the forums to fuck off anyways.

I think a bunch of people have already registered accounts on Knockout. As painful as it will be seeing FP finally shut down, the ways some of the staff here behave is simply pathetic. Would seem folks at Facepunch (or at least the vocal ones) don't really care about the forum that made up so much of their support in the early days. Steam will show you the Garry's Mod EULA when you first run it. Do not forgot, we have the right to request what data Facepunch Studios holds on us under Article 15 GDPR and Article 4(1) and (2) GDPR. All you have do to is contact them via email and make an official request. If you need a letter template/format for requesting data, this site has one and quotes all the necessary legal stuff.

I have installed GMod in the past 5 years and I don't remember a pop-up appearing asking if I agree to this EULA and Privacy Policy. Still, I think it still is against the GDPR by not providing a dialog to consent with the data collection done by GameAnalytics.
