read the fucking eula next time https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1755/8ebbe868-73be-444d-a3ef-0884343c9cd5/image.png
Oh you mean the email I sent a message to on Saturday and still haven't gotten a reply from?
Didn’t people here complain about knockout doing some shady privacy stuff? Also until recently only had google as a sign in. Yet people are switching to it because facepunch is infringing privacy? It’s kind of funny to me
Because inacio and the develoepers are open to criticism, they didn't call us xenophobes and didn't implement chinese spyware on the forums and told us to fuck off when asking the reasons for it.
Whats bothering you about Knockouts login system? We're an open book as far as privacy goes, ask us anything you want.
sorry, but unless you can point out what exactly (in which case i'll do my best to fix it), that's just not true. i'm a privacy nutter myself. this is the privacy policy page in knockout, that you are instructed to read before you sign up: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/326417/d5e04566-ffc2-474d-af4b-d6ada7b12925/image.png (email is crossed out for that screenshot because we no longer save your email, because, again, we don't want your personal data) we only had google for sign in for a while because of technical reasons - google is just the easiest, fastest login provider to implement. as far as i know, the only thing google got from your login in knockout is the fact that you logged into knockout, and knockout's url, probably. we don't use any botnet analytics scripts. check the page source code. i think we might not even be using google's login script anymore on the clientside, but i could be wrong on that. i've always been very clear about what accounts you should ideally use for knockout: make a new, fake account in one of those providers that you'll only use for knockout. i've always been very clear about people not posting any of their private information on knockout to avoid self-doxxing (and getting angry when you delete your account), see the privacy policy page. our privacy policy is still a wip as we haven't run it through lawyers yet, but we intend to improve upon it. saying knockout does shady privacy shit, at least intentionally, is absolutely false. if we do it's not on purpose and we'll fix it. fuck botnets
Everyone assimilated into the fp staff roster has terrible people skills. The fact consumers (we) are dumb and buy even from shit companies causes them to be successful, regardless of their communication skills. Things will never improve here. Have you ever seen them try be more nice? No, it's because they dont even.
Hit me up on discord if you want the full image. Dopy#0318
still no legitimate response from facepunch staff or developers? no? i'm just going to assume they don't want to incriminate themselves anymore at this point lol
Layla took to negatively rating posts rather than actually responding when faced with straightforward replies he could no longer twist into something about being racist.
Yeah, I'm happy with how knockout turned out, but I do remember people complaining at one point about duplicating facepunch threads on knockout or something of that nature. Though, google collects crazy amounts of information on you which was why for a while I was waiting for steam sign in.
OK. So it's xenophobia to be afraid of data transference to a company majority-owned by an overseas mobile advertising firm that is run in a country with documented history of using data against marginalized groups to control them, and where the government has an explicit right to ask and immediately receive any and all data they ask for, without question, from corporations? And this is right as pretty much everyone that's involved with the 5g switch lead by Huawei, a similarly Chinese-based corporation is warning about how it could be a massive open leak of information and data? I've provided plenty of sources here, but I can provide more if you like. I love China, as a nation. I think it's one of the most beautiful places on the planet with a breadth of natural beauty, marvels of architectural design and an incredibly rich culture that dates back fucking centuries. I myself am part Chinese because my Great-Grandfather defected in the early 1900s and fled to China to raise a family. However. The state government of China has shown, countless time and time again that it is willing to abuse human rights, will gladly censor and control free information, monitors and will gladly disappear its own people for the faintest of political slights, has and will continue to censor their own historical mis-steps to the point of threatening detainment, regularly commits organ harvesting on political and religious dissidents, and has ongoing religious persecution. To say that it's xenophobia is fucking misfounded because it's not. It's the state level that is wrong. Ask me to shake the hand of someone from China and I would, any day of the week. Ask me to visit China, with a form of diplomatic immunity from their legitimately horrifying laws, and I gladly would. I would actually love it, to see some of the amazingly vast cities over there. Ask me to do the same to any nation whose state government I dislike -- Israel, Russia, Iran, Pakistan, India, you name it, I'd gladly go there. I'd date anyone from those countries, I'd immerse myself in the culture because I am not, and will never be, hateful or scornful toward a culture purely because of its other-ness, its foreign nature, or its dissimilarity to my own. What I am against, and will always be against is states that willingly use their control of their citizens to prey upon them, control them, and use their information against them. And you can damn sure bet I'm wary of them having interests in my data. I'm against it for all nations-- I've already participated in marches against internet laws here in the UK and I regularly end up having to write letters to my MP (Tim Loughton fwiw) about laws I disagree with even though I know he'll vote for them. I've stood by and aided my friends in the US and a friend of mine from Romania who have both had to deal with their own local abuses of privacy and information control, and if I had friends from China and I could help them without risking their indefinite detainment by an oligarcho-totalitarian state I would. To be critical of a nation based on its state-scale actions is not xenophobia. Were that the case all of the "lol, bush" jokes from the mid-2000s would be tantamount to cracking the N-word, but obviously that's not the case. To be critical of a nation based on its state-scale actions is not xenophobia. It is what you are supposed to do when a state acts in a negative and harmful way, and that is exactly what the Communist Party of China is doing.
Layla would say that Ilhan Omar is an anti-semite because she criticized the Israeli government.
Im sure Layla has already abandoned the thread and wont read this at all.
People were asking if Inacio would clone the posts here so they could keep their posts. Inacio has always said that this won't happen for both technical and legal reasons. The Google only sign in was just because the site is still a work in progress and most people have access to a google account (also Inacio had been misinformed that steam auth was being discontinued so he didn't see the point in adding it until that issue was clarified).
Can I have it too
I can only talk for GMod, but we collect data to know how many people are playing the game at a specific time, how many new people are playing, which operating system they run, and which build of the game they are running. There might be a couple of extra bits of data thrown in by the GameAnalytics SDK, but I've already linked the source code for that so it's no big secret. Worried about the GameAnalytics SDK automatically updating without us knowing? Don't be, it doesn't. The EULA states a lot more than GMod does, and covers more than GMod alone. If you've emailed the fp legal email address I believe you'll get a response at some point. I can't answer questions about the EULA, but I do know what GMod does and does not do.
If you add me.
It depends, Can we receive official apologies for the behavior of some of Facepunch's employees? We understand that not everyone is a Layla, but we were called "Xenophobes" and received regressions for asking simple questions about our privacy. Again, don't try to make us look like the bad guys here.
Why am I blacklisted? Seems really uncalled for and kinda petty to mention that and not duke it out in a DM.
you nerd why are you showing that in a browser window it doesn't show on updates, and wont show depending on how you launch it shrinkwrap licensing has been shown to be unenforcable in the US and EU wouldn't surprise me if something like this caused FP to go bankrupt from legal fees and GDPR fines. was a good run everyone
I suppose the more general question here that everyone wants to know before it got derailed with Layla was: What does GameAnalytics provide over the Steamworks/Steam statistics alternative?
This doesn't really answer why you moved to GameAnalytics when Steamworks provides the same data.
It has petty graphs and OS info that isn't stale. It can also be used to tell more specific things, such as how long on average each person who plays in a week actually plays, it might only be an hour. I don't think Steam offers more than the player count and less useful OS info. Maybe more is hidden somewhere though.
Yay, after like 3 bloody days and several pages, finally getting some legitimate answers. "More nuanced statistics in an easier-to-digest format" is absolutely a fair reason for changing from one analytics system to another. Certain other Facepunch developers could certainly take a page or two of your book, Willox.
The gmod staff are the best imo Not biased in anyway I swear
Give them time. Shit takes time.
How long does it take to reply in a non narcissistic and overly condescending tone to a simple question lol
Considering the legal implications of saying something wrong and that this is the job of these people, a long time. At least that's my office experience.
@garry my boy stop being a dick want ya
