Anyone remember lava survival?
I used to spend way too much time on those, we'd build long glass hallways filled with mushrooms to stop the flow, all while the local jackass went around "accidentally" punching holes in the walls to let the lava into whatever bunker we had built. We'd then retreat deeper into the ground until there was no more ground left and the lava finally caught up. God, those servers were so much fun.
Man, those were the days. I still remember buying Minecraft when it first came out in its very early alpha stages, I'm sure I heard about it on Facepunch, but as a teenager it was amazing. I remember Notch dropping in on servers and watching people build, and all of the great Facepunch servers. I still occasionally play the modern version of the game to this day, not as much as I use to, but if I'm stressed out it really helps me wind down. I know Notch has become a kind of egotistical dick lately, but he really did create an amazing game.
It's still a fine game without mods. It's not like it's broken without them, especially now with how much has been changed/added in the past few years.
I've been having fun with the most recent update, I'm sure it'll get stale soon enough, but it definitely has enough content to keep me occupied for a while. Mods are great, and I still love checking out all of the big modpacks that are being released, but the Java version of Minecraft runs like absolute garbage on my PC for whatever reason. Even the Switch version runs better than the Java version on PC for me.
shameless plug Knockout Minecraft
Remember the secret Friday updates?
I'll definitely check it out asap, my wife is using the internet for Netflix, but I'd love to play with some other people. How do you use the pack? I've used MultiMC a few times, but I'm not to sure how to work with it these days.
just import the multimc zip! it might ask for other stuff, in which case hop on our discord and ask
Go look up ilmango
I never found the guy who broke stuff to be a jerk. I mean if someone ran around breaking literaly everything then yeah. But I always saw that as part of the game. Eventualy someone is going to punch a hole in your bunker, but who and when? It made it fun
stock minecraft has some pretty bad balancing issues. Anything below diamond tier items are pretty trash, and even then you want to enchant things to make them decent. Also a lot of resources used to make essential items pretty much require farming.
I miss being able to choose which resources to spawn and how much, meaning the whole world could be made of iron and diamonds.
This isn't even the real "original" version. I remember playing an earlier build where water didn't move and trees didn't exist at all. Man, I remember building a giant underwater hotel on an early creative MP server with my friend, and defending it from griefers with hidden sponges buried in the walls. We helped build a server-wide underwater tunnel network, and every time we'd log back on it'd be griefed to shit. Then, once custom server stuff kicked off, I remember playing on "SMP" servers or something with color-coded user ranks. I built a big ass asteroid base with turrets and shit. Everyone just chatted and built pixel art or big bases to show off. It was a whole experience. The allure died out for me a bit after Beta 1.0, but damn if it isn't an incredible game. I redownloaded it a while back and started playing FTB modpacks, and it's incredible what the community's managed to make. I still remember being shocked when snow maps were added, or when real furnaces got added instead of literally tossing ore into lava. I miss the giant floating maps during early /indev/. This brings back so many good memories.
There is no "one real original version". Just a long line of gradually updated versions of the game.
Ah, people getting mad that their unfounded and elaborate fantasies of what Minecraft should be like didn't come true is almost as nostalgic as the game itself.
Aye, I had elaborate fantasies for Minecraft could have been. I also had elaborate fantasies for what Terraria could have been, and still do. The difference is Terraria ended up having actually enjoyable gameplay.
Minecraft already overwhelms me with all its current features. I'm fine without mods.
but we have weeb architecture! https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/326417/bc7cd0ff-f375-487f-ab28-8ad2f0283f39/image.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/326417/0ece0c56-b139-4818-9ff7-db91760996e5/image.png and dragons! https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/326417/b0e8dc81-6658-48dc-b0ca-23bd9fe9e1f2/image.png
Can we get a web version of infiniminer? Probably just nostalgia talking, but man I want to try that one again.
Yep I got it figured out, I'll be joining soon, my wife has been watching some girly show on netflix and we've been moving to a new place so time has been limited. I'm definitely down to play some multiplayer MC, its been a while.
awesome! make sure to grab the patch that's stickied on the discord channel!
