According to a number of people Jontron did not really mean anything that he said and that the controversy mostly originated from him being inexperienced in political debates.

Also in the case of Jared, as soon as underage abuse and sexual implications are mentioned, people will pick out their forks and torches. Not implying that the racist allegations against Jontron are less severe but scandals surrounding minors are always quite severe and critized far more vehemently by the public.

I think JonTron did mean what he said but I agree that his inexperience with debate exacerbated things a great deal. I also think having shitty political views is something that's forgivable, unlike this.

This is a hard one. People said the same thing about JonTron and Nostalgia Critic but both of them are continuing on fine.
There is having terrible views and being rightfully called out on it, and then there is cheating on your wife with your friend's wife and sending dick pics to minors.

I don't want to drive this thread off topic because it's not about Jontron but this is not only patronizing, but actually not very accurate to the statements he made during and after the debate with Destiny. He made a response video where he criticizes a "culture of tribalization" for making it difficult to have an "honest conversation" about race. When he is with alt-right/alt-lite types, such as Sargon during one of his streams, he freely participates in reactionary talking points about the media, muslims, minorities, and (((Soros))).
Like I said I don't want to make this about Jontron and honestly I think as far as insulating ones political opinions from their content goes, he is pretty good at it, but he wasn't "inexperienced in political debates". He was consistently racist for a solid hour, then participated in racist or generally xenophobic discussions for years afterwards when the reactionary movement embraced him.

I had no idea of the severity of what has happened, I thought that it was something as small as him just saying an awkward sentence that was easy to misconstrue into something else, apparently not.

While Jontron (apparently) had a history of making the occasional awkward political statement beforehand, the catalyst was the two hour debate with Destiny.

Even if you can't stand the dude, I really suggest you watch the whole Destiny debate. It becomes achingly clear that Jon had a sheltered upbringing and basically got his actual, real world news from gaming sites and youtube skeptic dipshits. Once Desinty pushes him on the more outrageous things he claims, Jon gets incredibly uncomfortable and defensive. He repeatedly asserts that its bad if whites are a minority, but that current minorities are not oppressed, so its not bad, but it is.
Its astounding how low the bar is on not being a racist or a sex pest, and yet here we are.

I think that there's a divide between being able to have some pretty shit thoughts that can be changed, like racist bigoted shit JonTron said, versus literally being a sexual predator who was actively engaged in preying on underage people.
You can backpedal on being racist, you can't back pedal on being a sexual predator, especially when it involves underage people. One of these things is not like the other.
