Yellow jackets have disabled a fair amount of France's countryside speed cameras, they usually just strap a trash bag to it on top of spraying it.
For a second I thought you were talking about the wasp, and I was like 'holy shit, and I thought they were aggressive in the States.'
On our side of the pond with our type of roads yeah its way too slow, but over there with what they have it makes sense.
Why do so many people think like this and dont mind risking others lives just to save a few extra minutes at most.
What is it with cars in general that makes people go fucking bonkers?
A huge amount of folks thinks the road is specifically just for them and anybody else who costs them 2 microseconds into their drives are asshole and should be shouted at.
1 less than 10 MPH over the limit (Assuming we're on about MPH now), that isn't nothing, 2 or 3 MPH maybe, not nearly 10.
It is here.
They allow for an absolute max of 129km/h on a highway, those 9 extra km being a sort of safe spot. If they clock you over that, they WILL ticket you.
We're not on about on a highway/motorway though, we're on about a fucking residential area, where that speed differential does make a big difference, on a motorway that obviously ain't gonna mean shit really.
I usually speed all the time, and residential streets are where I draw the line, I drive way too slowly if I feel there's a chance of someone appearing from nowhere :V
also, the 30kmh speedlimit isn't only for safety, but also to reduce noise pollution a bit in the residential areas. the noise pollution from tires etc. is much lower when driving 30 instead of 50
There always has to be one of those people coming out every car related thread going "yeah so what I drink while driving and smoke doobies and call people on my phone while driving with one foot on the steering wheel and jacking off with both hands and nothing bad has ever happened to me, those laws are bullshit", innit
The sad part is that these people always survive the accidents and the innocents don't.
But... I was talking about highways...
So...????
You may be talking about highways, but that's not the context of speed limits in this thread.
Stopping distance at 30mph, from the moment you notice the kid running to the street is 23 meters or 75 feet. So if you notice that kid run into the street closer than that, you're gonna hit that kid unless the kid dodges you. At 30kmh, braking distance is only about 10 meters.

not cool...
For the record, I've never observed a lot of the stuff in most of that user's posts. It just doesn't seem to reflect reality.
I've never seen any residential street with an average street speed of more than 5-10mph over the limit, and those were streets that were barely classifiable as residential (and only at night).
30 kph impact = most victims survive
50 kph impact = most victims die or are seriously injured.
That's really the whole rationale behind speed limits in areas where pedestrians and vehicles come in close contact.
Pretty much every British person will be reminded of this iconic TV advert

oh, so I should hit children while going 30, gotcha, thanks
glad that was cleared up
I hit a kid going 30 and it fucking died
what a snowflake lmao
The problem isn't so much doing the speed.
Its more the fact that you could have enough speed to trigger a fine, despite being perfectly safe, at a time when not a single soul travels the street. Its more of an inconvenience than anything else. You aren't the devil's spawn just for going 10 over the limit like people make it out to be.
You know what would work infinetely better?
Speed bumps.
Boom, no more fines, and certainly no more speeding.
Kind of fucks the car in the long run though.
Just need to go over them slowly. You'll only see noticeable damage if for some reason your suspension is ubelievably weak, or if you try to use them as ramps to catch flight.
Only if you're going too fast.
You think that's a lot of effort. Back in 2008 I was driving back to my school dorm after spending the weekend at my parent's and every single speed camera over a distance of about 120km had snow stuffed into the little cover that goes over the camera lens. Someone was clearly pissed off.
And then there's the case of the Finnish imageboard user who made explosives and blew up a s speed camera in 2009. I know that camera, and it's basically one of those strategically placed trap cameras that give out massive amounts of tickets and is hated by everyone. Basically the speed limit drops from 100 to 60 km/h and is very soon followed by a speed camera.
in a car with molasses for brakes maybe
or in the rain
In absolutely, positively optimal conditions the total stopping distance will be a bit over 19 m at 30 mph (48 kph). An optimistic reaction time (the time it takes to fully hit the brakes) is 0.5 s, during which the car will travel 6.7 m. With the brakes engaged, stopping the car on a dry surface (friction coefficient 0.8) will take an additional 12.5 m.
The average persons intuitive sense of their capabilities and their car's performance is simply wrong. If you think you can do better then that's great, good for you, but traffic rules should conform to reality.
Is there a test that proved or disproved this?
