https://www.tvguide.com/news/the-orville-renewed-season-3-fox/ The sci-fi series was one of the last veteran shows Fox made a decision on before it announces its 2019-2020 fall schedule next week, likely because the decision wasn't an easy one for Fox. The Orville requires a bit more heavy lifting than other shows on broadcast television due to special effects, costuming, and character design. Despite being shorter than typical broadcast shows, Season 2 was delayed to late December to allow the production team to finish up special effects. The renewal is a sign of faith from Fox. After being Fox's fifth-highest rated series in 2017, the show fell to Fox's twelfth-highest rated show in 2018-2019, dropping a full half point in ratings. Though The Orville survived, other genre programming on Fox didn't. The network canceled The Passage and The Gifted, and Gotham aired its final season.
I haven't watched any of season 2 yet but I'm glad it's doing well.
fuck yes, season 2 was so good
The orville beats family guy by a long shot imo
oh I thought this was like a tv show about the popcorn guy kicking ass and fucking chicks
I feel like this was Seth Macfarlane's end goal. Convince Fox he'll make a shitty comedy show based on Star Trek, but slowly but surely turn it into a spiritual successor to Star-Trek that takes itself seriously. Cause no studio would allow anyone to make a Star Trek series that actually functioned like a Star Trek show.
It isn't Star Trek but it does what Star Trek did better than any Trek show or movie since TNG
That's awesome news. I was starting to get worried with how long it was taking to get renewed. No one can convince me this wasn't the case. A parody star trek show is such a one-note concept that there's no way Seth thought it would work in the long run. The humor in season 1 detracts from the experience more than it adds. I'm certain that it was always his intention to use his clout to get a comedy show out the door that he could slowly twist into his own earnest star trek universe. God bless.
Does this show actually go anywhere cause I watched the first half of the first episode right up to when his ex wife was supposed to be the new science officer or whatever and noped the fuck out.
If you had read this thread or any other threads that pop up surrounding this show you'd have a pretty clear answer already. The show starts off as a parody trek show filled with family guy-esque humor that pretty rapidly evolves into its own fully fledged TNG-inspired sci-fi universe that tries to continue what made classic trek shows so great.
To be honest, I've never looked into it because the opening 30 minutes was enough to put me off entirely. When does it transition from shitty comedy in space to an actual scifi show?
Episode 2 it becomes Star Trek with jokes, then it slowly lessens the humour to be Star Trek.
I like that it has the freedom to make fun of itself and the genre while nevertheless having the writing skill to actually create new and interesting scenarios. Star trek discovery is trying, but what it seems to amount to is a whole bunch of mcguffins and gritty dark circle-jerking. Leaving room for a light-hearted romp is essential.
This show really nails the Star Trek look far better than anything in Discovery or the JJ Abrams films. Weird how that works.
Fuck yes! This makes my day.
