I swear to god I hope Tim Sweeney falls down some stairs.
oh boy here we go again...
People that wont care are those who aren't invested in gaming culture. When people pay hundreds to attend the largest annual expo, you can bet they DO care.
Legitimately is all the epic apologism just people upset that Half-Life didnt come out? Why would Valve have to do anything other than have the superior storefront when it comes to digital storefronts?
To quote myself from a thread two weeks ago: Valve DID actually reduce their cut of revenue around the same time the Epic store began to expand, they also take lower cuts the more successful your game is. People should be arguing AGAINST exclusives, not for them. Valve have been trying to expand the number of people able to play games and the choices of games they have, not reduce them. Valve updated the store front a couple of years ago, they're currently in the middle of a complete client update. We got the community update at the end of last year and we'll get the library update sometime this year. They're rolling it out as it gets done. Also Valve have recently added the ability for developers to route their multiplayer traffic through the steam servers, allowing developers to implement multiplayer in their games for free. They helped Gears for Breakfast use the new systems to implement the 50 person coop in A Hat in Time. They literally just announced the Index VR platform, which is cheaper than the Vive if you compare full kit to full kit and has a lot more quality of life features. The Index also includes controllers which have finger tracking to increase immersion and interactivity in VR games. The Index controller is also compatible with the Vive. It always seems like the people who say Valve isn't doing anything haven't looked into anything Valve has done in the last few years. You might not care about the stuff they're working on, I know I don't care about the VR stuff, but to say they're not doing anything is just ignorant. Valve have been doing stuff. They've been working for years on revamping steam's UI/UX and have been developing VR tech. Valve haven't been reactionary to Epic's shit but that's a good thing. The last thing we need is a tit for tat exchange between Epic and Valve.
I dunno, I've seen way too many people not give a damn about Epic and its shit... I really do hope the people attending E3 have the spine of the people that were at Blizzcon, and even those are questionable imo. Not that I really blame them all that much, but if it were me, I'd just boycott Diablo Immortals entirely, even if I loved everything Diablo related. I just despise the mobile market.
People are mad at valve for two equally dumb reasons 1. They're mad about half life 2. They're mad about the completely reasonable margin that valve takes from game sales because some people on leddit flipped their lids and got fake angry about the "unjust margin" after daddy epic said it
Yeah, like gearbox!
For fucks sake man. I'm so sick of this shit.
Is it bad that I honestly don't feel so bad about people who pirate EGS exclusive games due to the fact they already made a profit?
Yeah I guess it's pretty dumb to say that valve isn't doing anything, I probably got that impression because Epic gets on the public eyes almost every day for all the bad reasons, it'd be better if valve talked alot more to show they're working on things I mean the multiplayer networking feature wasnt even brought to attention by Valve when it could've been a big news for everyone I think Minecraft still had millions of players even after the initial popularity worn out so the same could happen for Fortnite, but epic seems to be mostly reliant on Fortnite cash so who knows
The gaming press is entirely ignoring the situation and the criticism people lay forth. I'm surprised they haven't yet tried to write it off as sexist campaign against Epic somehow. In an ideal world, all the outlets would have addressed and laid out the flaws in epic's practice and why it's uncool. I fucking hate it and i hate even more how nonchalant they are about it. Just the topic choices and consumer habits by journalists, revealed in the Gameinformer podcast among others is just so entirely out of touch with the larger hardcore community. The lack of self-awareness is shocking. I'm starting to feel more and more that it's more down to a conscious choice to be out of touch. It's like they actually just exist to distract and redirect attention away from shit any journalist worth their salt would fight to make people aware of. I'm getting off track, but what i'm saying is that there's absolutely gonna be a huge subset of gamers who don't care and don't see a problem because the American millenial hipster gaming press isn't making any attempt to bring any of it to light. From KindaFunny to Eurogamer to Gameinformer, they don't want anyone to think about anything that doesn't serve to felate their individual indie cliques.

I don't quite get the problem here. Sure the EGS stuff is shit, but they're just a sponsor for the show, it doesn't mean they'll only be showing games approved by Epic. They'll get some ad and presentation space, just like previous sponsors.
Its a power display. From a company that keeps on doing power displays and being general dicks towards the majority of people.
I get that Epic's strategy to gain a userbase through temporary exclusivity deals isn't winning them any hearts with the consumerbase. I've got several games I'd like to buy that went EGS-exclusive, which will now have to wait until they drop on Steam next year. But that's really the end of it. People keep getting emotional over these annoying yet ultimately not all-that-disastrous company tactics. From a developer perspective, they are putting a lot of money they made on Fortnite back into the industry, so that's nice. They're not going to do this forever, either they have a healthy userbase next year and no longer need the exclusives, or the store won't take off like they wanted to and needs to focus on different strategies.
there are many reasons to not like the EGS, it's the same criticism I had of steam when it was like this, they want to moderate what gets or doesn't get published, steam being a monopoly isn't that much of an issue anymore because they allow basically all games that are within the law and aren't trolling to me, all games are created equal, and that's what makes sense, epic wants the industry to head in a direction I am not happy with, which is why I don't like them
Wait, store curation is now an issue? I thought people wanted more curated store environments. They don't aim to overtake the entire industry, they're just trying to carve their own piece of market share. I personally don't expect they'll have much success unless they introduce actually compelling features for buyers.
It really depends how they do it. Yes, people doesn't want assets flips and not functional games get in Steam, but for others stores, "curation" mean no games with content that people may dislike, like sexual stuff, political messages or simply "weeb games"
For a lot of people 'curation' means "only show me games I want to play", which just isn't possible.
Keep in mind Steam got to the way it is now in large part because originally it was almost impossible to sell a game on Steam. If you weren't with a big publisher, you basically didn't have access to the largest digital storefront for video games. And people hated it, they demanded Steam relax their curation. Not long after those complaints hit their peak, we got Greenlight. And from there, we got a revolution in the Indie Games scene. Steam has always had complaints about it's curations, its just that before Greenlight, the complaints were that the curation was keeping good games off the store.
Not having store curation to me is not an issue if I can get information on the game before buying it. I think all games deserve to be in the big stores, as long as they are legal and not straight up trolling.
I'll never support punishing good games just for the sake of also punishing the bad ones. It's why I'll always call out the Jim Sterling curation complaints because those massively, dishonestly misrepresent the prominence of trash of Steam.
I don't think I understand what your angle on this is, I think having bad games is fine, as long as you can tell they are bad games.
He's saying Jim Sterling has been on a crusade against steam because it has bad games on it, Jim has been pushing for a nebulous system which will prevent bad games from being put on steam in the first place by disingenuously claiming steam has no content curation (despite being a steam Curator). He doesn't support Jim's stance because it would result in good games not being able to get on steam. I agree with this view.
oh god vampire the masquerade bloodlines 2 is going to be epic store exclusive isn't it
Tim Sweeney I just want to say thank you for buying all these games and making them free for all of us. I have to say I saved hundreds of dollars because of your scheme and still got my games to put on my steam library without spending a dime.
No? It's on GOG and Steam https://www.pcgamer.com/everything-we-know-about-vampire-the-masqueradebloodlines-2/ Paradox seemed happy to announce that Vampire: The Masquerade—Bloodlines 2 will not be exclusive to any one store. The game will be available on the Paradox store, Steam, GOG, Epic, and you will also be able to buy it on PS4 and Xbox One. However, eager neonates and elders alike can pre-order a copy now at the same storefronts.
Because nothings been pulled from steam or GoG before for egs exclusivity right?
While Paradox hasn't outright said they're loyal to anyone, a lot of their games are so niche that I doubt they'd be willing to alienate their core audience. + Chris Avellone is on the team and he's not a fan of what Epic is doing.
