The first season of the show actually started with a live audience, but they would laugh so much that it would fuck up the entire pacing of the show. Seinfeld had the same problem.

It is by far not the worst show ever produced by Fox, but I feel like the internet at large hates it because it marked the entrance of "nerd culture" into the mainstream. Ironically seems to be hated the most by videogame players (see memes above) even though the show was way more focused on comic books and Star Trek. I think the only instances of the guys playing videogames is when they do a WoW spoof and that one time they play Wii Sports.
