The solution is to fit the speed bumps with a sensor. If it detects that the approaching car has an inadequate chassis height, the speed bump will be lowered to accommodate it. Then as the car goes over the bump, an explosive device will detonate, killing the driver instantly

where I live they impose speed limits with speed bumps that require you to go well below the speed limit... the only speed bumps I like are the Dutch style 'bus-friendly' speed bumps and raised junctions.

You mean speed cushions? I find them to be the most annoying, because my car's track is too small so there's no good way to pass them without being painful.

I think the idea is that emergency vehicles are wide so they can just pass them without hitting them, but smallers cars require you to only hit it with one side of the car so it's a pain in the ass, you either pass them painfully slowly or quick enough, the middle ground is the worst.

passats are famous for scraping and breaking their oil pans, the car could have then gotten oil starved and needed a full engine rebuild.
