https://weather.com/news/news/2019-05-23-plains-midwest-flooding-forcing-evacuations Two wayward barges slammed into a dam on the flooded Arkansas River on Thursday north of Webbers Falls, Oklahoma, as flooding threats continued in the region. The barges were carrying 3,800 tons of fertilizer, the Associated Press reported. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Little Rock District inspected the dam and reported minimal damage.
The barges were carrying 3,800 tons of fertilizer, the Associated Press reported. Talk about shitty luck.
algae bloom incoming
IIRC, the Arkansas River is one of the major waterways infested with asian carp. Thankfully, they LOVE eating algae.
fishing boom ft Arkansas River
More like bodily injuries increase by 5000%. Those asian carp get upwards of 60lbs and hurl their asses into the air at the sound of boat motors.
Worth noting that for those who are not inclined to the outdoors: Fish jumping out of the water and hitting boaters is actually much more common than you would think, and it can be pretty dangerous with even smaller fish. Florida man here and I can say I've seen it happen at least three times on my own boat. Also, ducks falling out of the sky while hunting. A wing bone will pierce flesh at that speed.
What's the craziest thing you've ever done, Florida Man?
Jump on a 10' alligator to trap it while a man with Parkinson's held the rifle. Friends jumped on too, but dully terrifying. The big ranch in the area has an exemption to trap and move alligators from the watering holes cattle use in the pastures. The catch is that we can't kill them unless we have teeth marks to prove it was self-defense.
By god, it's the real Florida Man
Duty calls.
This is bad, but doesn't it help in the long run since they prevent the algae from further toxifying/deoxygenating the waterways? I'm surprised the carp can withstand the blooms.

I bet Seamus did it
Unfortunately asian carp are a major invasive species, so this is a lose-lose no matter what. More than likely it was chemical fertilizer, not manure. Which could potentially be worse.
Wow the fish do the fishing for you! How thoughtful of them to offer themselves up to the buffet.
