I heard it was as bad as youtube when it came to that, but that was a friend who told me that.

as comical as it was, it still won't stop valve from going "lalala can't hear you" over artifact
I know i'm an old man at heart, but can anyone explain to me the appeal of anything on Twitch? I've watched some streams, I've seen the chats, and like, I just don't get it. The chat flies by at a rate that is almost unreadable, if not straight up unreadable. The people just spam the same memey spammy shit in a hope to get noticed, very little of it seems to be "Enjoyable" as a viewer experience. But hey, I know I'm an old man at heart and this just isn't for me, I just wish I understood it at least.
All of the Streams I've enjoyed are the smaller ones where I'm familiar with the person.
A big channel is basically TV with a dedicated shitposting gutter on the right side of the screen. When you're in the audience in a rock concert, you're not really communicating with the band on stage, you're one voice in a screaming crowd of thousands, and big channels are much the same. A small channel is a lot more personal and lets you build relationships with the streamer/other regulars. The music community on Twitch is particularly good (mostly), as they're a much smaller niche than the river of game stream categories.
If you watch major streamers its almost more like watching a live TV show; not very interactive and more there for the entertainment value of the stream. Smaller streamers are generally much better if you prefer an interactive experience, as they will generally respond to chat and chat doesn't go a mile a minute. Of course you can get inbetweens like Vinesauce and Robbaz that usually have a post delay in chat so it doesn't just blaze through and they'll both try and interact with chat.
What was up with the discord links the broadcasters were spamming? Is there some discord exploit they were using to spread malware?
apparently people were getting emails about people trying to get into accounts via auth codes, but I have no source on that.
I saw someone getting banned in live for streaming furry porn, like I could see 10 seconds of porn and then ban.
adapt, improvise, overcome

Boy that sure looks like totally organic streaming content. Like, what even is the point now, just flooding the Artifact category with botted (possibly hacked) channels and botted viewers? Literally taking a "good" thing (well, after it was ruined by porn/Christchurch shooting) and turning it into mindless shitposting by bots. Is this really the future of the Internet? jfc
There's a lot of new botted accounts, but there's a shitload of blatantly hacked ones as well. You can tell because they have modbots light nightboot, moobot, streamlabs, etc running, and have been around for a while. Also, if you look at the twitter responses, there's dozens of people bitching about having their accounts stolen weeks/months ago with no response from twitch.
I used to be like you, I just couldn't stand actively watching any Stream for an extended period of time. Then I found a single streamer I really REALLY liked, simpleflips. I can't speak for other streamers but in his case I really like to watch him because he usually plays Mario 64 hacks (basically custom maps) and the big appeal to me is that he's usually trying to figure out how to get a star or the proper amount of coins, somewhat like he's figuring out a puzzle. It's just entertaining to see the process. Also his interaction with chat is just priceless, I just love his type of ad lib humor. Watching him fail is also funny, he does play up his reaction a little bit but it's self-aware and not obnoxious I think. https://youtu.be/UCOHCEZHMEo?t=153 I guess you just haven't found the right streamer for you.
