Richard Garfield claims Artifact floundered due to review bombing, not the model

there's also the fact that it was like 2 years late to see already saturated card based game market
there was a rating bombing that made it hard to get the message out about what the game offered to the player who it was built for.

Hes literally saying the review bomb prevented people who could be interested from liking/looking at the game. Also you keep ignoring that he refuses to see WHY the model is fucked and merely says people's perceptions are wrong.
Well, no, not in all cases.
In this one, yes. But not always, not at all.
Plot twist; all the games Newel mentioned they had planned are different renditions of Artifact
i still think that it can be salvaged if they fix the abomination of a monetization model that they have
I still can't believe they didn't utilize the system they have for Steam's own cards.
I remember back in the day I was excited at the idea of using badge cards in a meaningless CCG game.
Can you imagine? Using Mortal Kombat and Batman cards on a steam crossover? Shit would be fun. Too bad this is what we got though. I don't think I would've been interested in Artifact anyway, the DOTA ip is of no value to me.
It couldn't work with the way valve designed the system, both in terms of balance and perhaps legality.
If they had been forward thinking about it, though, it could've been excellent.
What if you could, say, craft trading cards together to get an artifact card? The result could be based on the market value of the cards or something.
There's simply too many different cards, though. Almost any game can make their own. So they couldn't use them directly for gameplay.
I'd forgive Valve everything if they allowed me to dominate my opponents with a full Bad Rats deck.
I see your Bad Rats deck and counter with my Gal Gun 2 deck, its the meta right now but I threw in a couple Senran Kagura cards to spice it up a bit.
You forgot the ace card:

Hearthstone has players that are not interested in the lore and having some kind of lore helps build some kind of visual image, which can interest players. And Artifact looks really good visually.
It will need more than that. Paying players who were invested into this game also quit for reasons like game being boring, lack of progression and rewards as well poor balancing (at least initially IIRC)
Warcraft is way more palatable and valuable than dota, and it’s generic enough you feel like you’re playing an MtG ripoff. Art was good too, reminds me of King of Tokyo which looks great
God damn them bellyaching fucking gamers
