"wait, something's not about me? I'm uncomfortable!!!!"
The fucken gall of these people.
Wasn't there something like this about a year ago and only one person showed up, and it was the organiser?
This website really should be called badfaith.com.
To be fair, if the gays can have a parade whats to say straight folk cant? Kind of hypocritical. Or are we not going for the whole 'inclusive' thing anymore?
the point of the lgbt parades are to show that LGBT is becoming more accepted in society. Meanwhile being straight has been accepted in society since it's creation. Meanwhile LGBT people have been stigmatized in various societies throughout human history. Which went back and forth from being somewhat accepted to flat out demonized.
Last i checked, straight people weren't getting thrown into jails, beaten in the streets, be called names, put to death, raped, murdered, disowned, tormented, treated as a second class citizen, or being fired for liking someone. I am forced to be in the closet for my entire life because of rampant homophobia, and could easily lose my job over it thanks to 0 protections against sexual discrimination. Parents don't agree with it entirely, sister's husband mocks gay/trans people relentlessly without knowing that about me. And worst of all, I can't show any kind of affection towards my S/O, even so much as holding hands due to people literally staring at us like some kind of sideshow. Straight people who support shit like straight pride parades can shove their head up their own ass if they really REALLY think they are somehow more persecuted than anyone in the LGBT community.
The whole fucking point of a pride parade is to announce to the world that you are happy to be gay above all the discrimination. What the fuck do straight people have that is even remotely close to that message.
Nah, I don't want a parade. They suck.
Have you ever considered what gay pride is actually about?
It's not pride in the fact you happened to be born gay, it's pride in being able to show it in a society that doesn't accept it. You don't have to "come out" as straight, it's the accepted norm. Straight pride makes as much sense as being proud that you're a wearer of blue jeans
that live laugh love one got me good
To be fair, straight people parade around their straightness literally everywhere and at all times
Are you for real?
Pride stems from having accomplished something. Being straight is not: there are absolutely no hurdles to overcome.

It's hard for me to understand sometimes why we need to argue about certain topics.
Having a "straight pride parade" or "white history month" is like having a "cancerless charity run".
You're not oppressed, you're not in trouble, you're just an idiot who can't stand someone else getting attention for once without thinking it's a personal attack.
If I may offer a point of thought from someone having known what gay was from an early age.
The notion of the need for gay pride used to confuse me just a little as I was fortunate enough to have grown up among tolerant individuals who knew gays and understood how to explain it very well, this notion persisted despite the borderline brainwashing I went through attending a Church of England Primary school (there wasn't another school for miles around so...). In short I knew gay was a thing and that was ok, I was vaguely aware that gays were discriminated against in the past but I assumed it was like women getting the vote or racial segregation and I assumed we had moved past such silly nonsense in our modern society.
So cue little young me learning about the gay pride parade, "what's this all for?" I pondered "gays are just a part of life these days right?" and in a way it was kind of annoying as when your age is single digits and you want to go to the cinema and there is a big gay parade between you and it your priorities get a little skewed and you end up grumpy at the apparently needless delay.
Of course these days, I know far better and seeing the sudden surge to the far right the globe appears to be taking these days I can't help but feel worried, I see some of the little petty grumbles I used to have as a pre-adolescent with the social tacts of a gibbon with a tack in its bum being used by genuine political figureheads.
It's literally just a childish "well what about meeeee??" mentality
They don't though? Do you mean to say that, walking down the street, you could immediately identify all the straight people? That's about as silly as saying you could identify all the gays because they're all camp and outwardly effeminate.
I dunno about you but I think straight people are all a bunch of faggots. I should probably clarify I'm joking since you can never tell anymore.
Why are the straights like this
They were so busy lobbying for gay rights, they forgot to lobby for straight lefts. /s
Straight people are able to show off any aspect of their sexuality basically anywhere. Straight sexuality has up until pretty recently been basically the only one represented in almost any media, especially in a positive light. Straight people don't need to affirm their pride
Nobody in the entire world is telling you to be ashamed of being straight. You don't need a pride parade. You're already the accepted majority. You can talk about how much you wanna fuck that hot waitress right in the asshole as loud as you like and nobody is going to say a god damn thing. Maybe people will be pissed at you for being crude, but there's just as much chance more than one patron will agree with you. You might even get a high five. I will personally guarantee you right here that nobody in that entire place will say a god damn thing about how straight you are and how bad that is. Absolute worst case scenario is you get thrown out for being a loudmouthed asscastle
But nobody is going to attack you for it. Nobody's going to throw you out specifically because of who you're attracted to. Nobody is going to throw their food and drink at you and call you slurs and harass you out of the establishment
Nobody's going to punch you for existing. Nobody's going to wait outside for you to come out so they can beat the shit out of you. Nobody's going to get their buddies together to stuff you in a trunk and torture you before they hang you. Nobody's gonna go get their gun and shoot you in the gut. Nobody's gonna pull a knife and stab you. You are never going to be in any danger of dying just because you're straight
Nobody's going to systemically deny you employment or healthcare because of the way you are. You won't have to wait outside while your partner dies in the hospital because they made a vaguely homosexual comment around the wrong insecure manboy because gay couples don't get visitation. You're not gonna be harassed by the police. You won't have to hide everything about who and what you are from childhood onwards for fear of being rejected by your parents and thrown out on to the streets. Nobody is hilever going to look at you like you're less of a person because you want to kiss pretty girls. Nobody is ever going to tell you that every single emotion you've ever felt is invalid, that everything you are is just a phase, that everything you know is wrong. Nobody is ever going to send you away to a glorified youth prison to try and have your straightness tortured, mentally and physically, out of you. Nobody is ever going to tell you that you are an abomination against god for being straight. You're never going to be ostracized in a community because you're heterosexual
The point of a pride parade isn't just being proud of being gay. Nobody is going to rape you in the bathroom for being a filthy straighty that needs to be taught a lesson. Nobody is going to let you and all your friends die of a treatable disease because the party in power doesn't like you. Nobody is ever going to specifically make it legal to murder you. Nobody is ever going to make it a crime for you to exist
Nobody is going to tell you that your entire existence is shameful, and that these things should happen to you
That's why we have pride parades
Because these are the things that happen to us
Because we're not accepted. Because we are hated. Because of what we are
We're not supposed to exist. We shouldn't
We're shameful, we're faggots, we're pedophiles, we're rapists, we're a thousand and one vile and hateful things that deserve nothing but the worst. We're not human
Because of what we are. Because of who we are
That's the price you pay for being included
They are a way to remind everyone that we are people. Because they need to be reminded. Because we're not accepted. It's an attempt to humanize ourselves in the minds of broader society
It's a lighthouse for everyone still caught in the storm, to tell them that they're not alone, and there is help and there is a place for them. A place that will accept them and will love them and won't do all these awful vile things to them. That there's somewhere that's safe. It's a reminder that they are a person, and they are worth loving and they can be proud of who they are. Not just proud of being gay, but proud of being a person. That they're allowed to be proud of being a person because being A Gay or A Straight isn't the sole thing that defines their personhood
We don't have pride parades just for funsies. It's not a big sunshine and rainbows event where everyone praises us tells us we're special and good
We have them because we have to. Because if we don't look out for each other, nobody else is gonna. Because we can't rely on all the same support structures that you take for granted
Do you really wanna be included in all that?
I sure don't
At least one of us gets to choose, though
I'm sure you'd be more than welcome at a pride
Right but that's not what you said
No, but many things that if done by a gay person are seen as being "flamboyant" or "rubbing it in your face" are literally daily things done by a lot of straight people.
See: PDA, talking about hoe attractive certain individuals are, the underlying assumptions in everything from marketing to a billion tiny social norms, media, everything, 24/7.
I think a parade like this would be fine were it not for the whole "acting like straight people are oppressed" bullshit. Like it or not but dunkace is right, gay people shouldn't exclusively be allowed to have a sexuality parade. I'd absolutely be down for like a sex parade with big titty floats and things like that.
And to be fair, while it is a very small but vocal minority that does so, there ARE people out there who give straight people shit for being straight. Judging by those walls of text above me of homosexuals complaining about every aspect of their lives, there are people in this thread that are about two or three homophobic slurs away from being the type of person to call for cis genocide lmao
I love cock and I'd love to agree with you, but I absolutely hate the "nobody is telling you to be ashamed of being straight" angle.
The fact of the matter is that there are many people who outright hate straight people and constantly talk about how much they wish straight white men would die, would get hurt, etc. Nowhere near as many as people who hate non-straight people, but they DO exist and saying "nobody in the entire world is telling you to be ashamed of being straight" is a falsehood. Not addressing that there is a problem provides a legit reason people can use to to falsely throw away otherwise valid points. No, there's nowhere near the same number of them, but by saying they don't exist you're providing grounds for under-meaning your point.
To be clear, I think this entire situation is fucking stupid and there's absolutely no reason for a straight pride parade to exist, but I wish people wouldn't ignore the reason why (at least some) of these people feel the way they do (the "straight white people should die" mentality). I would think a lot of these people would be more willing to listen to the discussion if they didn't have (a very flaky) reason to feel they were being attacked in some way.
Sure why not but there's a wider context as to why things are the way they are that's been explained a few times now and you've somehow missed it
There are idiots who are gay, big whoop, but does it compare?
why do they need two parades? the 4th of july is just right around the corner!
