• 'Straight Pride Parade' plan causes stir

The worst thing is that this is going to trigger protests due to it being thinly veiled homophobia which will then be retroactively used to justify the parade in the first place, which will lead to more of them.
I mean, shouldn't everyone have pride about who they are?
I mean if they're willing to put all the time and resources into actually putting together a full parade for straight pride, I see literally no way that it truly harms anyone else. Like yeah you can say it's silly or in poor taste, but I fail to see why it'd be grounds to ban them like I assume people criticizing the city would want
because the parade isn't in good faith and only exists for reactionaries offended by lgbt parades. one of the organizers said "Straight people are an oppressed majority. We will fight for the right of straights everywhere to express pride in themselves without fear of judgement and hate." with the implication that straight people ever had their rights taken away in the first place.
Right, but it's not like online social media platforms where you can chest the system and amplify your message 1000x by use of bots and subterfuge, these are people who are actually spending their time and resources on going out and abiding by the appropriate channels to set up a parade. Sure, rationally we all here know that it's for a stupid reason and at least partly in bad faith, but it's not like they're inciting violence, and if their point really is as dumb as we think, it'll just end up a waste of time and money for them anyway. I'd side-eye the shit out of anyone I know who'd actually go to it in earnest, but I don't see why they shouldn't be able to
Which is unfortunately probably the entire point of this. The best course of action would probably just be to ignore them, let them have their parade, and when nothing comes of it that allows them to try to play the victim card, hopefully they at least feel a little stupid about the whole thing.
Straight pride parades are always just attended by homophobes. Nothing has changed about that. Did people forget that straight pride isn't a new thing at all?

Tbh just let them do it, if you want to protest then do it
Also the parade is organized by a nazi. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D8OTrvSU8AAuqlg.jpg https://twitter.com/Boston_DSA/status/1030243683378114560
Because parades are fucking gay dude
This is a good post to use as a springboard! And I probably should, because I guess my hyperbole could use a little additional context. Starting with walking back to this part of my post and putting it in the focus: And pointing out that every single one of these things that has actually happened to someone in the LGBT community. I know actual people that have been through one or more of these things. One of those people is me And that gives me a good springboard to talk about scale and contextualize my hyperbole a little, and why the nebulous Many People on The Internet don't really matter a whole hell of a lot, and why I call them nobody You can find Many People unironically saying literally anything on the internet, and twitter is no exception to that rule. It's been that way since the dawn of the search engine and the WWW. There's prominent flat earthers on twitter and also there's prominent flat earthers These things aren't Many People on The Internet saying mean things. These are actual, factual, documented, genuinely real things that happen in meatspace with heart shattering regularity. This is the reality. Gays still get bashed for being gay. Trans folks get murdered for being deceivers. Lesbians get raped for being man haters who need to be taught a lesson. Mix and match and double up where appropriate. Actual, real violence against the LGBT community is still alive and well. As much as people like to pretend it all stopped in the nineties And even if each and every single one of these nebulous Many People went out today and bashed the first straight person they saw in the head with a bat until they saw brains, it wouldn't be even remotely the same thing. It wouldn't have been inspired by a cultural prejudice against straight people, and that cultural prejudice wouldn't have had help from a system that actively reinforces it. It wouldn't be a prejudice that's considered perfectly acceptable, normal, or even desirable. It wouldn't be part of a longstanding status quo of oppression and violence reinforced by those systemic and cultural prejudices. Their crimes wouldn't unreported because straighty deserved to die. None of them would get off light because of judge or jury sharing in their prejudice and finding it justifiable or otherwise agreeable. None of them would be lionized in the media as some tragic figure, or held up as heroes for finally taking the fight to straighty No part of a group that has political power, either. None of these people are in any kind of position to institute real, meaningful change on the basis of their prejudice. To institute major systemic changes that would assist in the oppression or even outright destruction of their hated group. None of them has the power to make being straight illegal, none of them are in a position to push through legislation specifically designed to make being straight as difficult as possible. None of them are in a position to decide what essential services straight people have access to, none of them are in any position to dictate where the rights of The Straights begin and end. None of them are part of a group that has any kind of support from any party, group, or prominent person who does have the power to do these things I don't literally mean that there is, factually, objectively, not one single person on Earth who is telling you that you should be ashamed to be straight It's much more that it's a matter of scale. Those voices don't matter. They don't matter because they're a minority inside a community that is already a minority itself. And they have the same potential to actually affect your life as the dust mote that just landed on your eye to become a floater. It's going to be there for a while, but you're not going to notice it unless you go looking for it, and in the grand scheme of things it's a piece of dust in your eye It's a mildly unpleasant event. It's not part of a systemic prejudice they have to live with every day. It's not part of a cultural prejudice they have to live with every day. It's not an echo of things they experience in their everyday, ordinary life every. Single. Day. It's something they can easily get away from. It's not something that's going to follow them around wherever they go just as a consequence of what they are. It's something they have absolute freedom to just ignore There's probably also some clever parallel to be made about how it sucks to be held accountable for the actions of people vaguely like you and have people run up a preconceived notion about you based entirely on your sexuality but I've been trying to write this conclusion for an hour now and I'm ready to just call this big contextualization fucking done
You know I'd have nothing wrong with a straight pride parade on paper, all things being equal, but literally every time one of these comes up it's a sour and cynical attempt to "get back" at LGBTQ people for uh... existing I guess. They lost me with the girl with the MAGA headband and then double lost me at "straight people are an oppressed minority". Like come on is that because you read some mean comments on the internet? Isn't the right/alt-right always the ones going around telling people to have thicker skins?
And that is exactly what they want, more than likely.
I have no clue who this guy is, but can we for just one second look at the source you're using. It: 1) Doesn't cite anything close to a reputable source. In fact, it cites websites that are literally promoting left-wing violence (https://itsgoingdown.org/) to a far clearer degree than anyone this twitter thread is going after. 2) Only provides totally non-replicable image captures. They all include timestamps like "5 hours ago," "On Saturday," etc. So you can't even look them up if you want to. Hell, they could all be totally photoshopped. We honestly can't know. I'm sorry, but anyone who gets their news from people like that are in every way as bad as the people you're going after.
Reading through this thread is so confusing. It seems like every few posts this is either an earnest attempt at a genuine "straight pride event" or just trolling and it keeps switching between the two.
I find the drawing of that women infuriating. What's going with her neck? Why are her shoulders flared straight out? She must have arms like two by fours. Dear god the face...i can't
If nearby fast food places stop selling dairy products in anticipation, I will be pissed, but not surprised.
#america
what should the floats be?
A sock in a sandal. Straight pride is Cindarella being considered an inoffensive, unremarkable children's book but a story about a kid with two Dads is propaganda.
I asked a coworker and he said "a parade of men coming out of their lifted F150s and going into Bass Pro Shops" Ironically I (a gay man) have been trying to go to a Bass Pro Shop because I love the vibe in there and it makes me wanna go camping. Guess I'm straight now. That being said work made rainbow logo shirts. I was over the fucking moon when they came out (ha) and said they were doing it.
Adam and Eve's wedding limo with a crucified Steve chained to the front /s
I say let them have their parade and let it be the saddest little parade ever having existed. And hopefully without too much protest, solely to show them how little people care about it.
It really is just a "if gays get a parade I want a parade!" thing. Heck if they just put on a "we just wanted a parade" parade all would be fun and dandy but you can bet there's something else to it and I HOPE it's satirical.
isnt a straight pride parade just traffic
100 bux this straight parade will have more men that the gay parade
Watch this parade's attendees be nothing but men.
I just got the best idea to deal with this don't protest it get a bunch of drag queens to join it ' As long as they're straight, it's still straight pride, right? They should have no reason to complain.
This is fun, but I don't think anything beats this 'parade' being nothing but a dozen losers being pathetic. Just treat 'em like irl-trolls, since most likely that's exactly what they are.
