• Amazon to begin drone deliveries 'within months'

Anyone got that video with the Amazon blimp letting loose an entire army of drones upon a city? Think it had Half-Life 2 sounds in it also.
You can't roll out a program like this and have it firing on all cylinders from the get-go. It'll start small and then scale up.
So how exactly WILL it be delivered? It can't be delivered to doorsteps cause that'd be pretty damn close to the house and some people don't really have much clearance at their doorstep to even allow it.
Even then you'll still run into problems including, but not limited to: -Geezers and hoarders that order a bunch of packages every day. -Apartment complexes that don't have secure locations for parcels (We don't let UPS, FedEx, or Amazon use our parcel lockers) -Thieves that just take the package from Big Dog before it reaches the destination. -Disgruntled Mail Carriers. -Traffic -Disgruntled Mail Carriers in traffic.
I want to start a dog sledding team with these robots, and watch them all do this on the first patch of ice we hit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BlYq3jO6xw
That is a lot of real estate, construction, planning and infrastructure needed for a gimmicky delivery system. Maybe in the future it'll be a bit more efficient, but right now it's just a gimmick.
What I'm imagining they will do is they'll set up an agreement with local businesses to put a place where the drone can make pitstops at as needed.
moreso than the beat up diesel trucks couriers use?
I have the sneaking suspicion that early on the weather is going to do a number on their drone fleets. Around here random unpredicted rainstorms or sudden severe wind are the norm and it's hard enough keeping your trashcans from flying off let alone a flying drone..
The pitch of a drone is much higher than a truck. Also they obviously don't use the trucks to make door-to-door stops, they have their own deliver vans for that.
Low muffled rumbling vs a fleet of giant hornets on meth. You tell me.
Yeah it's not intrusive at all to hear PSCHHHHHHHT VRRRRRMMMMMM SKREEEEE ......... PSCCCCHHHHHTTTTT VRRRRRRRRRRM SKREEEEEE As the dying mail delivery trucks make their way down my cul-de-sac, desperately trying to deliver one more package before they fucking die. For all the twenty different mail/parcel delivery services that exist nowadays.
i can hear the air-drum bursting brakes all the way over here
