Early leaks suggest Destiny 2 is going free to play, coming to Steam

actually the leaks were accurate
its just that it literally changed the day before
so what does it mean by base game? does it mean just destiny 2, or does it also include year 1 stuff like forsaken as well?
happily surprised to see the PS4 cross saves too. What a twist
Base Destiny 2, Curse of Osiris and Warmind. Forsaken and its annual pass will be in one $40 purchase.
Didn't see Steam page posted yet. Pre-purchase Destiny 2 on Steam
You will have access to Tangled Shore if you download Destiny 2 on steam, however you wont be able to do major story stuff, atleast thats the ViDoc can be understood this way
You basically have access to all of the destinations (including the Moon for Shadowkeep), but you wont be able to the the strikes, raids or dungeons featured in their respective expansion packs.
So take for example the Dreaming city, it's a destination in Forsaken, and you'll be able to go there for free, you can do the Blind Well activity since it's part of the free roam experience, but you wont be able to get into the raid, or the corrupted strike.
I think I heard strikes are doable too, however Y2 Raids and story content etc won't
So when will the cross-saves be live?
September once shadowkeep/Destiny on steam comes out, supposedly
This should be good going into Shadowkeep; Bungie definitely seem to be making the most of being fully independent now.
Can't wait to see what the new expac brings when it does drop.
Well no skin off my bones, I already got the damn thing for free on Battlenet, and barely played it before uninstalling its 80GB width off of my PC.
Not buying it at that price for sure.

Of course they are. I bet Forsaken and this new expansion will still be paid, or, the new expansion will be $40 and the rest of the game that's been released goes free. I mean if either is the case it's a fairly decent deal, but if everything goes free except the new expansion then it's a great deal
Same here.
Friend and I nabbed it when it was free on Battlenet, spent a week or so playing it for maybe 2 or 3 hours at a time, until we finished the main story (which, I believe, is all we had available to us without the expansions).
To quote my friend during the ending cinematic: "That was it? I didn't even pay for this damn game, and I want my money back!"
To say nothing of the fact that the entire time we played, we were just commenting on how much the game made us want to play Warframe or Borderlands instead. And we haven't played either in years.
But, despite my personal disinterest in the game, it's always good to see the game become more available to more people. Coming to Steam and going free-to-play are both great things for people interested in the game. And that's really what's important.
So Steam key for Battle.net owners when?
pretty sure that's just the preorder for the new expac, and I read in a different article that the f2p version comes around its release
Bungie hasn't said when, but Bungie will be giving keys to Bnet players for the Steam release and Shadowkeep will not be on Battlenet, or any future content iirc. So it's a total migration event.
That's a very fair price considering you get everything Destiny 2 has to offer as well as the new expansion.
It doesn't include Forsaken + the current annual pass.
I mean, if you have both forsake and Annual pass and you are on pc, you will get them after the move to Steam, and if you dont 40$ for Forsaken + annual pass is a whole lot of content.
35$ for the Shadowkeep is becouse its "the big expansion" of the year alla Forsaken/Taken King, but game changes from it, Patrol zone stuff (moon) and new strikes, gameplay chanages etc will be available to you no matter what, you just wont have access to Black Garden Raid and its contents, new activities introduced that are separate from the new Patrol Zone, exotic quests and story content + armour.
Annual Pass + Forsaken package gives you: 3 Raids (1 big, 2 medium), 11 or so Exotic quests, armour related to them, over 30 Exotics and 4 Activites (preety much all of them are fun) and any Story content related to the 4 seasons (that you can play whenever you want)
if you dont want to get the Shadowkeep, you could hold out, get the old content, play through it and then if you enjoyed it, and like the look of Shadowkeep from Videos you could get that too.
of course thats just my thoughts
I think Bungie will benefit tremendously from this change. Although I remain cautiously optimistic despite being a massive fan of the first game. I enjoyed the time I had with the game and seeing how it progressed into a genuinely good game. Destiny 2 regressed so much and the dlc policies got worse.
The biggest issue for me is still the recycled content, tons of D1 gear came back. Enemies are being poorly recycled and there is no real progress anymore.
I just want to point out how dumb the current way of selling Forsaken is.
As someone who only owned the base game and season pass, I go into the store looking to buy Forsaken before the swap and see this

thinking that's what I need, where I am then told

So now it looks like I can't buy Forsaken and am locked out of that content until it moves to Steam in 3 months.
Turns out though, you have to rebuy the entire game which is shown as this in the store

so you think you're having to pay $60 again, which would turn away most people.
Going into the store page though, there's an option for the "Complete Collection"

Which still looks like you're having to rebuy the base game and season pass, content you've already spent $120 on.
What is actually happening is Bungie has decided that no one will pay for the base game and season pass, so they've slashed the price by what that costs, but indicated that nowhere on the store page.
