Man I remember when Overwatch was exciting and promising... What a waste.
I can't believe Overwatch 2 would be PvE knowing Activision. There's much less incentive to buy cosmetics and shit with PvE because you can't look like a total idiot in some other player's killcam. With lootbox legislation coming they'd have to go back to map packs, DLC characters, and other nickle and dime shit, unless they want to break ground as the first subscription based PvE game that's not an MMO. I think Overwatch's characters, world and gameplay would have fit PvE much, much better than PvP, but that ship sailed long ago, and I don't trust Activision not to meddle with the sequel in some way that ultimately ruins it. I literally can't trust AAA publishers not fucking up sequels with shitty money grubbing detriments nowadays, and Blizzard has been terribly mismanaged at this point where I don't think Waifu/Husbando Wars 2 will be anywhere as hype as the first installment pre-release.
anecdotal evidence but i know a guy at blizz who said there was some kind of PvE thing coming down the pipe eventually; he never said it was going to be an overwatch sequel though. I just know that they have been pushing to have more interactive story elements and playable lore internally, my guess would be some kind of added campaign mode
Honestly overwatch is in such a rotten position in terms of its design that I really don't see how they can make it noticeably better without just doing something like an Overwatch 2 and having it be totally different, they can't really make the necessary changes to OW as it is currently as the problems are in virtually all aspects, from the characters to the layouts of the maps and the general structure of the game. At which point once they've gone through all the effort required they may as well have just made a new game.
