• More plastic pollution in the deep ocean than in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch

https://stories.starbucks.com/stories/2018/starbucks-announces-environmental-milestone/ Don't spill shit in the car.
straws are a microcosm of the broad problem that nobody is willing to go through the slightest perceived inconvenience to help improve the environment. If the screaming children we call 'humanity' can't handle it being ~slightly~ soggy, how the fuck are we going to make any REAL progress?
Asking for no straw at the counter is barely any effort compared to what you suggest, ie demonstrations, protests and activism. I've no idea why this should be an either/or situation.
You can ask for no straw and also do other stuff, but it's kind of distressing that the straw dilemma is still like the public topic of discussion related to plastics entering the environment.
I think the only reason it's such a big topic is that so many people are against even such an insignificant change in their way of life.
If the manufacturers would just switch to a reusable container system. I mean honestly, would it be easier to convince millions of people to change their habits or convince a few dozen companies to implement reusable containers? Bring back the milkman days!
The turtle thing is such a blatant emotional appeal Paper straws aren't doing the environment any favours, and everyone running out and purchasing metal straws isn't a viable solution Having open lidded drinks in cars isn't a viable option either, no matter how much you want to say "JUST THINK ABOUT THE FUCKING TURTLES". Doing that doesn't help your cause at all
It's always baffled me that open lidded containers are served for people that don't have disabilities. Seems like a non-problem.
I wanna see more of what energy drink manufacturers do, but for everything. Some varieties of Monster have this rotating seal on top of the can, just turn it 180-degrees and it opens, turn it back and it seals again. Game Fuel has something similar, this 2 piece sliding tab that opens up the can and can be pushed back down to seal again. Seriously, they're great ideas, gimme more seal-able cans.
Sooo you can just ask for no straw if you don't plan on drinking in your car? That should cut off 90% of straw usage in the first place. No idea why that's supposed to be a problem.
People drink water or coffee in cars all the tome that’s a very very normal thing world wide
