An assumption, but the devs openly talked about console sales while acting rather quiet and bitter about the Epic Store sales.
IIRC It was more like deduction from various released numbers. While Exodus had by far the strongest launch of any Metro game, it was carried almost entirely on consoles, and while EGS sales aren't public, articles have pointed out that preorders (which would mean Steam) were record high.
what's the line of logic here with this sarcasm? that pirating is okay and encouraged if it's against scummy business practices?
i think the devs or publishers taking epics exclusivity deals are extremely short sighted, these deals wont last forever and no amount of mony from epic can make up for the lost goodwill
Every single thread about a Epic Exclusive someone mentions about the game being "free" and someone always says how "unethical" or "unmoral" is pirating a game and there is no excuse to do it, even if Epic and/or the publisher are taking a dump in your face. They are defenseless puppies, we can't hurt them like that.
This is sad, and the devs are shooting themselves in the foot because I feel like shenmue is already somewhat of a niche title. With Epic store rightfully getting flamed and dragged through the mud, wouldn't this put a huge damper on their PR and get the game caught up in a shitstorm, further making it a niche title? Same thing with Metro Exodus, great somewhat niche series with publishers not caring for the longevity of the series' future
Yeah but money
There is no moral or ethical dilemma here. It's corporations with enough money to make Solomon blush. They have zero ethical or moral values or constraints. They could eat you and everyone you know and love in their piles of money. So when they try to fuck the consumer, they can get away with it scot free in almost every instance. So the best option for the consumer is to get a stab in where they can because they have little other recourse.
how is that hurting epic any different than just not buying the game? get a stab how? what is pirating meant to achieve that simply not buying the game doesn't other than satisfy your own needs? the most you can do to hurt them is to tell everyone you know to not support epic bragging about how you're gonna pirate their game in every thread is just immature at best
Easy, satisfy your needs in spite of them. Why is the consumer expected to be the mature one and be kind to the corporations that are trying to bend them over a barrel and dry fuck their ass with a spiked horse dick?
As far as I can tell from some cursory research, they never explicitly mentioned steam on the kickstarter, only a windows digital copy. Of course, back then it was kind of a big duh. Regardless, dick move as usual. I think kickstarter needs to make some changes to their TOS in light of all this, the negative PR can not look great on them
Sorry, but this "immature" consumer doesn't wanna participate on the Epic anti-consumer Store and I don't gonna feel bad if someone pirate the game, if they don't care and enjoy treating us like shit, why we need to be the "mature" ones and defend them? They are the ones making millions, not us.
If they never actually specified Steam by name, I don't think it's reasonable to demand a Kickstarter refund over it. They never broke any agreement, assuming what you're saying is true.
But then again, who's bothering themselves with immaturity concerns, in an age where corporations will destroy a single person because it dented them in "trillions", which is a lie in most cases, while they get away with anything? Are we really gonna take the stuck up attitude of passing moral judgment on others from such high mountains, just because they pirated a videogame, from a company that doesn't care about anything than making money? Customers now are nothing but numbers. We aren't people that like X and want Y and are given it. We are guinea pigs, constantly experimented on, being pushed formulas, to see the best way to pull the most revenue out from. Products are dollar bill grinding machines with names stuck on to them. The equivalent of calling a woodchipper something like Anthem, and the wood is your money. All it does ia grind wood aswell, if you know what I mean. Games are getting too close to camouflaged pachinko machines. People love these franchises, but these franchises want to destroy them. Do you expect people to pay for this shit? I at least, won't look someone funny for doing it to a game like Exodus.
Yeah that's gonna be a no from me, dawg. Might consider the PS4 version instead.

Honestly who in the world gives a single shit? Are you really going to defend Epic here? Do you actually feel sorry for them?
I see that nobody has come in to make the whole "it's just another store" spiel so I would like to do so now. Guys, this isn't a big deal. It's just another launcher that you need to download. Big woop. Stop complaining. Who cares that you were promised a Steam key and pledged to get a Steam key? Just use EGS instead guys its the same thing basically.
Very excited to purchase this video game.
Woops, I missed that part.
For some reason, I highly doubt you're a fan of Shenmue
Sure its the game isn't xenophobic?
how is just not spending money on their game "being kind"? They have a shit store and keep doing shitty business practices, but you see it as a personal attack from a faceless corporation and overdramatize it . Don't like what they're doing? Ignore anything with connections to epic and don't support them. What is this logic? Not buying their game and not pirating it is is defending them? What? And are we really arguing for there to be a reason to be mature? I know what you mean and I can understand if it's the people who kickstarted those games that ended up on epic or diehard Metro fans whose game got removed from Steam, they got screwed last second. Once again, I fully encourage people -not- to pay. Noone's gonna know if you pirate something but I don't see how it's the "cool" thing to do now and if you pirate the game then you're a real rebel. Once again, I'm -against- epic. How is me telling people not to buy their games defending them?
I don't see it as a personal attack on me as an individual, but it is an attack on consumers as a whole. But see, someone can not support them but also play their games in spite of their behavior. Step around them, negate some of their corporate power. They don't need white knights to defend them, nobody needs to think of the pitiful corporations, fuck them.
The only uplifting thing in these threads is I get to see these comments. and their a joy to laugh at.
this has me increasingly worried about the destroy all humans remake
Oh joy the clown is here
So glad the circus is back in town! https://youtu.be/eCy-GfrohHc
Sad, but also glad epic picked it up. Now everyone can just get refunds from the kickstarter without fear of the game dying in development since Epic can cover the costs.
