It's really weird that Epic keeps doing this shit if everyone hates it.
Well, aaaactually, they talked about Steam in their Kickstarter a lot, just not as a promise on the primary campaign page -- they left themselves the ambiguity of only mentioning a PC digital platform release there. Last June they began the backer survey to see how many people wanted it for PC and how many wanted it for PS4, among a few other housekeeping things. Every single time after that that they mentioned the system requirements, it said it required Steam to activate. On top of that, one week ago the KS received this update announcing the delay until November, which still gives the "requires steam" line at the bottom of the system requirements. They've been saying "Steam" for 49 weeks, and their game is on Steam and has been taking preorders, and then suddenly it's an EGS exclusive. The Steam store page even had placeholder achievements added to it some time back. And then there's this interview which occurred three months ago: "GAMEBLOG: There are only a few short months left before the release of Shenmue III, what kind of work do you have left to do? YU SUZUKI: Our job now is basically tuning, debugging, and upgrading. The game itself is totally finished? Yes. After that there are still things like the location of the game, or the adjustments with the platforms of Steam and Sony." Next time you hear about a game you want and you see Deep Silver attached to it, just immediately give up any hope of it not being chained to the EGS. Assume the betrayal will come. This is the second time they've done this.
Seems like they've spent their money the way of Tim Schafer even though the Kickstarter campaign was mostly to show interests from big investors to get the real backing The only criminal thing that has happened is that Shenmue 3 backers had a Linux version promised in the Kickstarter only to have it canceled way after it's possible to get a refund
Nope, it was Deep Silver's call. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/129/b28570c1-4dca-443b-8691-842b4a36416c/1560211004515[1].png
there's no way that will hold up in several countries
Damn didn't even know this had Deep Silver attached to it, now I'm not even surprised. They got this bullshit started after all. Fuck Deep Silver.
No refunds? These dudes have some serious fucking gal to still hold onto backer's money AFTER accepting Epic's blood money.
I really hope this is lawsuit worthy and that a lawsuit is filed, this shit is scummy as fuck.
I know for a fact, that it won't in Australia. Our Consumer Laws are very strict towards Businesses when it comes to Refunds.
"However, refunds will not be granted for this change." Eat shit
why do you even bother lmao, is this supposed to be a "lol your loss losers kek" kind of schtick you have now?
I never said that pirating the game was a very "cool" idea, I personally think that they don't give a shit, the publisher already have the money, they don't care if you play the game or not. But I ask you... Why it is fine to encourage people to don't buy the game but it is wrong to tell them to pirate it? What is the difference? If they don't care about you, why we should care about them? You even said that it was "inmature" to encourage pirating a game, but at least we don't scam people lying about our game and denying refunds to the backers. Also, sorry, but if we ignore what Epic is doing, we lose and this shit becomes the norm, so no, we can just "ignore it" and let them take a dump on our faces.
You can report the project for being misleading here (ctrl+f "report")
Well it looks like Deep Silver is about to get a beating from the ACCC. If they can't uphold their promise of a steam key, backers are entitled to a refund.
This shit is highly illegal isnt it? They receieved money on the promise of releasing on Steam and now they're going back on that, isnt that a form of fraud?
Not only is that the case, but it's also...in Australian Terms, a bit of a Dog move.

To add, you can report it even if you didn't back it.
Thanks, took the time to file a report! Didn't have much interest in Shenmue myself, but what a crock of shit this whole situation continues to be.
Time to scratch Deep Silver off the list of credible publishers
"Refunds will not be granted" Well, aren't you just opening yourself up to a heap of trouble?
Should've done that already when they did this to Metro
Well, that is going to discourage people from backing any future games, especially if this keeps on happening Good job making it harder for small devs to fund their products, Epic and Deep Silver.
Steam GOG Origin Epic Launcher UPlay Windows Store/Xbox Live itch.io Nintendo eShop Humble Bundle Discord Nitro PlayStation Now Possibly Amazons Video Game Streaming Service GamersGate Bethesda Launcher GooglePlay iOS Direct2Drive Battle.net GameJolt I can keep going if you want. There seems to be a bunch more.
Well the former won't get you into trouble, pirating a game might. It's not super likely, but you wouldn't be the first to get a lawsuit on your hands. Anyway, you do you. I think it's weak that one NEEDS to play the game so bad that they'd just pirate it instead, but it appears posters in this thread have made their mind up and I don't think there's any fair argument to be had here.
What they are doing is trying to forcefully captivate the majority of the market by using unsustainable methods.
I really do hope Epic runs out of steam soon, but with the amount of money they're stockpiling, they're probably going to be a scourge for years.
This makes me nervous for Kingdom Come, that game was surprisingly good and it's going to suck seeing it become EGS exclusive
Hey guys, remember when this thing's Kickstarter announcement along with a delayed PS3 game and the first episode of a remake "won" E3 one year?
