Why 4chan is bad:
the sad thing is, most of the people on 4chan boards don't willfully fall into the whole white supremacy stuff, but rather, just fall into it due to memes and wanting to feel like they're part of something bigger. Mostly because 4chan typically attracts those in life who have never found success or are social outcasts. They want to contribute and have some validation, so they parrot the memes and phrases in the hopes of feeling like they belong. In some of these cases, they fully start to believe what they're parroting. What starts out as a stupid and crazy joke becomes something serious.
Not saying there aren't people on there who are full on neo nazi white supremacist, just that the ones that are are the ones pulling the strings behind the scenes and luring in your average shitposter to their cause, because they know what your average shitposter craves and they play to that.
Really, I do think /pol/ should just be gone at this point. Yeah, it won't get rid of the problem, and they'll just set up shop somewhere else, but the more you obfuscate access to this type of ideology by making it less and less convenient to access, the less it's able to spread.
I brought this up with a friend of mine once after the NZ shootings, and they were vehemently against it. Saying things like "containment boards do work" and "censorship" and the like. I get their angle, but at the same time, and in the words of 4chan by calling this what it is, you don't deal with a cancer by letting it grow. You take care of the tumor (/pol/), monitor things afterward, and if it moves, take care of it again.
People lost their innocent:
We've had quite the death of innocence if we've gotten to the point where "draw your own take on this cute character" is taken as "draw child porn".
Art is:
Arguably the ideal is just that, art existing out in the world and people interpreting and enjoying them at their own leisure, on their own terms. The reason we accept otherwise is because it motivates and funds the creation of those works, as each unique work has a monopoly on the kind of experience it's going to create. It's a kind of cultural goal to maximize variety and quality. People are right to feel entitled to experience art on their own terms when they're already funding it's creation. If they're asked to pay and still not be able to actually enjoy it, that monopoly means they can't get it anywhere else, they might as well pirate it to at least get some terms back. The thing that separates making a sandwich and making art is that art is reproducible and can be enjoyed many times over, it's more than the sub of labor put in. It makes sense that people are not inherently entitled to a sandwich you make, but that they would be to see the painting simply because it costs nothing and does no damage to look once it's made.
The alternative understanding, where art is literally just something that exists to turn a profit and that anyone who expects to enjoy it on reasonable terms is "entitled" is kind of just a surface level backwards interpretation from economics. Furthermore, it's obvious in modern times that copyright has gone many times too far and suppresses massive amounts of derivative creations, more than it facilitates by a long shot.

Keep in mind EA sell their game on Origin, meaning they don't give valve a 30% cut of their PC sales revenue like almost every other developers.
According to Le Monde, the game made a $924 million profit. Stop kidding yourself, almost a billion in net profit is insane success for any kind of entertainement industry. And they achieved that by separating their community and screwing over poor customers who wanted the full experience. And the game is almost dead today on PC, with only a couple thousand players on average.
And they still complained about the game not selling enough which made their stock drop after release because shareholders weren't happy with their unrealistic sales promises

Poe's Law is truer than ever. We got this far because trolls and memes and jokes slowly legitimized this kind of thought. Shit like "Hitler did nothing wrong," which was just an edgy meme on 4chan years back, attracted actual racists. Trolling's clearly not as benign as people assumed it was. The internet is real life now - all the dumb jokes we made have been legitimizing white supremacists and helping them ramp up recruitment efforts.
Wonder why all the Nazi protestors looked like guys who play video games and stay on 4chan until 7am every night? Because they are, and they got radicalized through the normalization of extreme content - both through trolling and jokes.
Lawsuits are doing too much punishment
Aren't lawsuits like this the reason that many Americans say it's better to kill a robber/burglar than simply wound or incapacitate them?
Not only the US, a scarily common thing in china is that if they hit someone while driving, they just back onto their head so they don't have to deal with paying them for the next like 40 years.

Flazer210 was my old handle on the former facepunch forums. I kept a low profile, didn't post much because I felt like i was just inviting people to criticize me and call me an idiot. When I migrated I couldn't keep all of my old posts, but it didn't matter much to me.
I never interacted directly with people here, but I've always felt this community was a place that I could be who I don't have the ability to in real life. I can express my opinions without feeling like I'll be ostracized (even though I get rated boxes a lot of the times because i'm not very intelligent )
It's been a fucking wonderful, wild ride. I'm really gonna miss this place. I'm gonna miss the hilarious banter I see happen all the time. This place has made my life better just by simply existing. I know this sort of sappy shit isn't really the point of the thread, but this place means a lot.
