That'd be a pretty cool plot point I think. Having the ability to move between devices (From a PC to a mobile for example), but the "scenery" changes a bit as a result. For example, a PC is more powerful than a mobile so could have bigger, better "cityscapes" etc, but a mobile would have smaller clusters dotted around the place to represent smaller processing power etc. Doubt it'll happen though. Almost all the reboots lately use the husk of their original IP and bastardise it so only the name and vague nods to the original IP remain (ala Robocop, Total Recall etc).
That actually happened in Tron 2.0 for the most part. When Jet (the protag) had to get into someone's PDA for information, the space inside of it was dimmer, simpler, and cramped. The puzzle for the area was even overloading the weak system by opening too many programs, to "convince" the OS to just give up and help Jet so he'd stop eating resources and go away. It was pretty amusing. "You're not going to send me to some remote Russian satellite, are you?" "It's tempting, but no. I just want you off my system." I'd fucking kill for a Tron 2.0 movie. The entire art direction was just so fuckin pretty, and more on par with the original movie. Samey, but more advanced.
yeah and the dude who played anakin is the reason revenge of the sith sucked
Revenge of the sith did suck lmao and it's partly because of the terrible acting Also because of a good number of reasons Like really how can you take that lightsaber fight seriously with christiansen sounding like that YEW UMBDERESTIMAT MY POWUR I HAYT CHOOOOOOOOOO
Legacy was a very impressive Daft Punk music video, but as an actual sequel to Tron it was very meh. The original Tron was all about imagining what it would be like being inside a computer and interacting with software and games back when most people didn't know a lot about how computers actually worked, and when games were so basic visually you had to imagine what they were actually representing. Tron was so great because it brought all that stuff to life: computer programs, computer networks, games like Pong and Battlezone. Back then it really was mind blowing. Now, when not only do most people know much more about computers and technology, but there's much more actual computers and technology to explore, the Tron metaphor was begging to be expanded into the modern world of internet and gaming and whatnot. But instead they went the opposite direction and completely disassociated the Tron world from actual "real world" computers, making it about some unspecified parallel dimension things with hot chicks and glowy stuff. Which looks and sounds nice, sure, but that's not what Tron was about. It was about goddamn programs! You know what the movie needs to be like? Tron 2.0. Where you can see the inside of servers and computers and mobiles, upgrade your utilities, interact with firewalls, travel around in a packet and fight viruses. How awesome is that? This awesome: [t]http://www.visualwalkthroughs.com/tron/powerregulator/1.jpg[/t]
As much as I like Tron's visuals and aesthetics, it feels dated-ish in today's internet. Its presenting everyone with the (ironically) Daft Punk style. And while I love my Tron lines and slick laser-edge suits, it needs more variety to make it seem more akin to the insanity and variety that is today's internet. Look for example at Summer Wars when I talk about variety and what not, of course that works because its an animated film. Or hell even Blade Runner with its multicultural feel. (Hell even Syd Mead who came up with alot of the visual concepts for Tron worked on the visual concepts for Blade Runner). Because at its core, Tron has it's foot heavily in the Cyberpunk door.

Entire worlds and times folded and wrapped in weird ways into and around each other.
Please don't reboot Tron. :(
Would dig a tron that went for a scuzzier technological feel.

I played Tron 2.0 back in the day and basically it was a kinda' immersive-sim-lite game, where you could build your character a bit with augmentation-like applications that plug into a central wheel, taking up space depending on how 'optimized' they are. Every time you moved to a different 'system', you'd actually have to re-allocate all your mods because the specifications of the system you've moved to have changed. You'd have more space on a particularly powerful machine, less on another, or at the very least the exact location of 'blocked off' spaces would change and make you play tetris with it a bit. There was one level which took place on a security guard's PDA, and it stood out in the sense that it gave you an absolutely pitiful amount of space for your augmentations, along with the level itself being rather small and claustrophobic. Tron 2.0 wasn't an absolutely amazing game, but playing it as a kid was tons of fun. I've never played Deus Ex: Invisible War, but I'd always imagined that it was like Tron 2.0. That's not exactly glowing praise, but it's not a horrible game by any stretch of the imagination.
Is there any way to legit download a copy of Tron 2.0 nowadays? Or will I have to take my chances with eBay? 'cause that game sounds like it might just be something I would play.

Oh sweet, it's that easy? I thought it was gonna be one of those rare game situations.
Fucking loved Tron Legacy despite its wonky flaws
Oh come on, I actually really enjoyed Tron Legacy, like it's seriously one of my favorite movies and I really wanted a sequel. Not a bloody reboot. :s: [editline]edit[/editline] Also if you haven't already, go watch TRON Uprising, which was a "sequel" of sorts, it was an amazing show, but was killed off after it's first season due to network incompetence.
I sympathize with the love of Daft Punk's soundtrack, but god fucking damn it they need to have the original Wendy Carlos theme in there. For fuck's sake. I was genuinely pissed that they never even did a little nod to it in Legacy.
This was something that Tron 2.0 did with it's main theme; the majority of it was new but around the minute mark it starts to build up before flashing back to that original theme and it honestly gave me goosebumps as a kid. There's plenty of throwback to the original score in 2.0, it's amazing. Especially this one. The entire OST has many elements of Wendy Carlos' work despite having a different composer, but just with a bit more of a modern twist. I love it so much and I wish they released it on CD or something.
