It was a good game, yes, but people expected something way better. SR2 set the bar really high for what to expect
It was good, the only real thing I didn't like was the style of wacky. It made me laugh but it's not really for me. I enjoyed pretty much everything else about it though. I appreciated the balance between wacky and realism, so much that my enjoyment for 4 went up after using the cheats that disabled a majority of super powers. The only real other criticism I had for 4(and by extension 3) was that Steelport is a very bland city without much to do, especially more when compared to Stilwater. There was only the essentials you needed for gameplay purposes but nothing else beyond that.
Saints row 4 is a fun toy but showed the big problem with the whole constant escalation of the Saints' status and power and also wasn't as fulfilling to play as 3 mostly... The super powers were really fun tho for fucking about and the insurance fraud missions were fucking hilarious in 4... Gat out of hell was definitely only worth the $5 I spent on it lmao
This is a hell of a role reversal.

I remember jumping on a FP thread about it, I saw those pictures of the Saints fucking around in Washington and the boss sitting in the Oval Office and thought "holy shit this is gonna be amazing"... Only to watch the trailer that shows nothing but Steelport, superheroes, generic aliens, re-used SR3 DLCs and literally nothing about Washington/presidency. My hype sinked as fast as it escalated. You're literally the president for a single mission in this game ffs. Don't make it your main selling point.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/zAZRz0j.png[/t] Lol what are you even talking about
"Your search - AGENTS OF MAYHAM" meanwhile the search-bar says "mayhem" Which is it? :glare:
I just want Saints Row to be like 2nd, be in gang, take over the hoods and what not, I really dont want to be a president in space fighting aliens with gangsta vibe.
Also having awesome cutscenes and that nifty british voice actor as a character voice option.
Saint Rows 2 striked the balance perfectly, the story was mostly serious in tone and all about gangs and the whacky shit was in the free roam, it was never completely over the top either.
The original IV story sounded better (still wacky but not as insane wacky it currently is) Apparently it was supposed to involve Ultor cloning Genghis Khan, Adolf Hitler and Cleopatra and them being the 3 gangs. https://www.gdcvault.com/play/1022328/The-Vertical-Slice
And Stephen Colbert was going to be the President of the United States. They really missed out on that.
I just want Saints Row to be like 2nd, be in gang, take over the hoods and what not, I really dont want to be a president in space fighting aliens with gangsta vibe.
It's too late for that now, sadly. The majority of people now know Saints Row as "SUPER WACKY LOL XD VERSION OF GTA WHERE YOU FIGHT ALIENS IN A GIANT DILDO COSTUME AND EVERYTHING IS RANDUM XD" If they were to shift back to something like SR2, most people would see that as a step away from what makes Saints Row what it is, and the "negative" allegations of the game being a straight up GTA clone would begin again. The only choice for SR5 would be to become even wackier than SR4, and I'm willing to bet that Agents of Mayhem exists simply because Volition just couldn't push themselves to make an even wackier game (probably from being burnt out on the IP in general), so they pushed it aside and started a new series that just makes references to SR instead. Again, I'm not saying that I wouldn't want them to go back to SR2 (I very much would), I'm just saying most of the audience around Saints Row came in around 3 and 4, so they're expecting something even more crazy from a potential SR5.
Saint Rows 2 striked the balance perfectly, the story was mostly serious in tone and all about gangs and the whacky shit was in the free roam, it was never completely over the top either.
More specifically, all the rival gangs took the story seriously while the main character didn't take things too seriously and pulled of ridiculous dumb plans like [sp]going to a nuclear power plant, stealing nuclear waste and putting it in a rivals tattoo ink.[/sp] Even then, the main character where willing to take things seriously and got downright brutally sadistic when stuff got real [sp]like the death of Carlos and Aisha.[/sp] It's that balance between wacky goofs and serious dark stuff that makes both things hit harder.
Considering THQ Nordic has been re-releasing and patching up games (Red Faction Guerilla!) I'm very hopeful for a proper SR2 this time 'round. SR2 is still my all-time favorite. I love it so much. <3
Saints Row could probably do well with a somewhat more grounded reboot given the way GTA is going now.
that would be amazing if GTA goes full wacky and Saints Row is the grounded counterpart... but still with the same sort of humour it's always had [editline]15th February 2018[/editline] like say what you will about the ways Saint's Row 3 has aged, that fucking exchange in the beginning gets me every time "I am not French, I am Belgian." "So go make yourself a fucking waffle, we're done here". idk why it's so funny but it just is :v:
I'm hoping they do a remaster or fix up SR2 before anything else, SR2 has a lot of issues on the PC. I mean so far they've remastered Darksiders 2 and fixed up Guerrilla, I could see them totally fixing up PC SR2 .
Also having awesome cutscenes and that nifty british voice actor as a character voice option.
And a voice pitch bar, can't forget that.
Now THQ has to beat the shit outta SEGA and get Relic back.
Also if there's one thing I liked about SR4, it was the super-melee combat, it was incredibly fun to just go into a cluster of enemies and fire them off into the distance with a punch one by one while also getting those sick finisher animations when running at them, I pretty much only used weapons or powers if I really needed to. If they do a new SR game I hope you can at least somehow get the super-powers suit you get at the end of SR4.
I'd like to see a reboot of SR1 tbh, I really liked it
Hopefully this turns out good, it's great to have all those IPs back in one location, now they just need to use them properly. I'm not sure what they're doing with other IPs THQ NORDIC have acquired, but Darksiders 3 seems like it's going alright, at least.
I'd like to see a reboot of SR1 tbh, I really liked it
While i didn't like SR4 enough to complete it as the entire super-power stuff and virtual world weren't what i wanted as part of the series, from what i saw of the story, couldn't they do this in a way that's canon while not an actual reboot? If at the end of the game [sp] the earth is destroyed[/sp], it would be interesting to do something where it's "rebooted" but only to the time of SR1, so you'd have the SR4 characters who aren't famous or even known about anymore and have to do things all over again.
So... Volition is under Deep Silver and THQ Nordic owns Red Faction and I think Freespace... I wonder if we'll get to see those IPs shine again.
FreeSpace no, Interplay still owns the FreeSpace IP so it's unlikely there'll ever be another FreeSpace game so long as they've still got it.
FreeSpace no, Interplay still owns the FreeSpace IP so it's unlikely there'll ever be another FreeSpace game so long as they've still got it.
What is the current incarnation of interplay even doing at this point, except acting as a swamp for dead IP's? They've done nothing but bitch about that Fallout MMO since they returned.

In a similar way to how Agents of Mayhem is technically canon thanks to Gat out of Hell.
What is the current incarnation of interplay even doing at this point, except acting as a swamp for dead IP's? Have the Boss and friends sent back to a setting with some semblance of realism, with all the memories and even some of the gadgets they picked up fighting aliens.

Meanwhile on my PS4 copy it just crashes the entire PS4 in the tutorial
Saints Row could really benefit from a reboot now. The alternate universe ending of Gat out of Hell would be a perfect set up for a reboot. You've got a new set of characters and a new gang and then slowly reveal that it's actually set in the new universe that was created, could even have Gat and Kinzie appear as cops at some point.
