So... Volition is under Deep Silver and THQ Nordic owns Red Faction and I think Freespace...
I wonder if we'll get to see those IPs shine again.
I still think of Freespace whenever I hear the name Volition, not Saints Row. This probably doesn't mean anything for a new Freespace game, but man would I love for that series to come back.
What is the current incarnation of interplay even doing at this point, except acting as a swamp for dead IP's?
They've done nothing but bitch about that Fallout MMO since they returned.
Ah, right. Forgot about Interplay still owning it. Interplay sometimes re-releases their old games on Steam and GOG, but that's really it. They don't make any new games as far as I remember, nor let other companies do anything with their IPs.
Saints Row could really benefit from a reboot now. The alternate universe ending of Gat out of Hell would be a perfect set up for a reboot. You've got a new set of characters and a new gang and then slowly reveal that it's actually set in the new universe that was created, could even have Gat and Kinzie appear as cops at some point.
Was gonna say, the multiverse stuff is the perfect set up to make as much Saints Row stuff as you want while still technically keeping the other 4 canon. And honestly I would like to actually see Zinyak return. His story is actually pretty interesting.
SR 4 and GoH was pretty fucking shit. I can't even be arsed to ever deal with them again.
SR3 introduced so many characters, important and not, some who were short lived, but were awesome nonetheless.
In SR4 most of those characters are dead within the first 15 minutes or retconned. SR4 was fun for what it was but I wish it never existed.
Unpopular opinion time I guess: Saints Row IV was fucking fantastic.
It was great fun to play and the story, while silly at it's core, still had serious moments.
I would kill for another Red faction game along the lines of Guerilla
Armageddon however...

I always forget Armageddon exists. It is like they took everything that made Guerilla great and removed it.

You see, I'd love another Red Faction game but I'm of the opinion that I'd rather see something like the original game, but with better writing.
So we are basically full circle?
I'd love a re-release of SR2 for the PC. As much as I loved the game, it crashed far too much for me on PC and set me back so many times. A PC port of the SR1 would be cool too since it's the only Saints Row game I haven't played.

Didn't the GOG release fix most of the glitches and problems with the SR2 PC port?

Most of GoGs' fixes for old games only really target windows 7 and while a lot of people still use it, i really hate having to go find fixes to make these games work on win 10. It was part of the premise on which they sold me these older games, that they'd keep them working for several modern systems. I shouldn't have to first fix their wrappers/patches AND THEN fix the underlying game because their fixes shat the bed.
Something's changed with GoG these past 18 months and i really don't fucking care for it.
For SR2, the powertools and Gentlemen of the Row patches will improve things slightly, but generally you get the best results if you match your system specs as close to an Xbox 360 as you can.
You get insanely hilarious results from the physics system if your CPU runs at a higher frequency than designed for, with being able to throw people clear between the islands, launching cars into signs, and generally just seeing people go into orbit every now and then.

Red faction guerilla had similar issues when I had last played it several years ago, and at least the steam version of it has actually been patched to run properly. And they made multiplayer changes, but I never went online. I was curious if they ever fixed saints row because I remember hating the PC ports in the same way that I hated the early days of rfg, but now that the game is fixed my opinion has completely switched, and I was hoping the same for saints row.
And since this is a thq Nordic thread, I gotta mention that rfg is a fantastic game. It's saints row on Mars with less variety of activities to do, but all the buildings are made of sticks and paper so you can drive right through them and you're a hammer wielding god who can infinitely sprint faster than most cars. But just like saints row it still retains some jankey elements, like the weapon switching is awful, a lot of the weapons are redundant or useless compared to the Martian hammer of Thor you start the game with, and the destruction physics are inconsistent to say the least.
Even with a lot of glaring flaws I'd still say rfg is a must-play simply because there's no other game with hostage rescue missions that you can actually do however you want, like smash a new hole through the wall of an otherwise heavily guarded structure and use the cover of falling debris to escort your armed and hostile hostages over to your stolen tank/rocket launching garbage truck, from which you can then proceed to turn the place into a wasteland while the hostages cheer you on.
Hmm, its hard to describe how I feel for the Saints Row series.
Ok maybe not, I love the franchise to hell and back, but damn the individual games quality varied almost as wildly as the franchise's own ventures between gritty realism and wacky batshit insanity.
Saints Row 1 was alright I suppose. I mostly played it for Gat, King, and Julius. They were the stars of the show as far as I was concerned.
Saints Row 2 is one of my all time favorite games just cause of how high it jumped off the foundation that the first game laid. The sheer amount of customization in the game was fucking staggering. The new gameplay elements were certainly welcome. I loved having access to new vehicle types, the activities were so delightfully insane, and story's constant shift between realism and wacky fun time shenanigans was just amazing. That and it really goes without saying, Gat is fucking amazing in Saints Row 2.
Saints Row 3....ehh....I liked it, but I can also live without it. My biggest issues being that the customization felt WAY toned down compared to 2. I played the vanilla version of the game so I don't know if any of the DLC helped fix that or not. The plot was of course as ridiculous as you'd expect. That and probably the biggest thing that pissed me off was [sp]WHY WOULD YOU KILL OFF GAT IN THE OPENING MINUTES OF THE GAME!? Though the explanation they use to bring him back in SR4 had me fucking laughing for hours.[/sp]
Saints Row 4 I think they just tried to dial everything up to 11, especially the sheer insanity. Though it came out during the time I was craving more shit like Infamous and Prototype so I appreciate the superpowers angle they went for. I hated the excuses they came up with to arbitrarily lock powers away from you. "Well we have to come up with SOME reason for the player to want to use guns." Plus vehicles might as well not be in the game as you are hands down faster than anything in the game within the first few minutes.
I wouldn't mind more things like SR4 though I'm wondering how that type of gameplay would evolve without making other features much more mundane and useless. Still wondering when and how we will get a game that matches, or even exceeds the bar that SR2 set way back in 2008.
I would kill for another Red faction game along the lines of Guerilla

I've said it many times before. The open world and destruction of Guerrilla, the weapons of Armageddon. Perfect Red Faction game.
Seriously, Guerrilla gives you a bunch of generic weapons in a game where destruction is a main selling point, then Armageddon gives you a load of creative destructive weapons and most of the game is in enclosed tunnels with little to destroy.
hopefully they will get their 40K IPs from Relic, seeing how they fucked DoW3, maybe having them back in THQ Nodric's hands would be beneficial
[sp]WHY WOULD YOU KILL OFF GAT IN THE OPENING MINUTES OF THE GAME!? Though the explanation they use to bring him back in SR4 had me fucking laughing for hours.[/sp]
Oh shit I genuinely forgot about that explanation. I think it made me laugh so hard I forgot the entire day in fact.
SR4 was a weird mess, but it had its heart in the right place as a "greatest hits" almost. The gameplay itself was fine (other than the extreme power imbalance on the super powers making everything else pointless but hey), the story was good at times, so-so at others. And everything that wasn't Steelport was pretty okay to be honest.
40k license isnt owned directly by relic or sega, GW hands the license out like candy if you ask for it
I think he means Dawn of War specifically, which GW only has limited control over.
I think he means Dawn of War specifically, which GW only has limited control over.
that and Space Marine. Afaik, it's still Relic who has it.

How would it be beneficial? THQ Nordic doesn't seem to have any teams that are dedicated to Strategy games so i doubt they'd be able to fix the DoW series.

at this point anyone would be better than Relic

Man. Some fans just need to relax...
Edit:
don't say shit like this unless you really believe that the Jordanian Developer of the week on Jimquisition for harassing their critics truly are better than a company that has been delivering two series that were at first stellar and then slowly declined to adequate. That's a way better track record than both Ensemble Studios and Westwood, who both got shut down right after their prime.
