Feel bad for the employees but it's a good thing overall, it was daylight robbery
The real fucking stupid thing is that it probably wasn't even with the forced subscription thing. They overbuilt and overengineered the press to a rediculous degree so that the parts and machining for it probably cost thousands, and they must have sold it at a huge loss. Likely only made profit on the subscriptions. Horrible product either way.
What's really concerning is that it took this long for the company to shit the bed.
Google funded 120 million into it
*1 levandowski
Worth mentioning: shitty practices aside like essentially DRMing fruit bags, its a really well made machine. Almost a sin to have such well made device fall like this.
Over engineered massively is not the same as being well made [editline]2nd September 2017[/editline]
ya this whole thing was obviously put together by someone who knew nothing of industrial design, mechatronics, machining, or anything really. Hell, i'm not a machinist but I know what it takes to make half this crap for aerospace and this is ridiculous [editline]1st September 2017[/editline] props on the design firm though, they must have been laughing their asses off after jucero approved their design
I'd love to be a designer on this machine, you could go all in and nobody would bat an eye
how the hell did these people even get scammed out of their money? at this point I'd be more interesting in something these people have NOT invested in

Surprised this didn't happen sooner
-tweet- how the hell did these people even get scammed out of their money? at this point I'd be more interesting in something these people have NOT invested in
We could have had space travel. We got juice with DRM.
oh fuck NO How will I get my 4-ton-pressed juice now?! Maybe if I string 4 cars on top on eachother, and then put those fruits on the bottom... But then it'll splash everywhere! And I won't be able to activate the drop with my Android app! There must be an easier method... How did I live until now without my Juicero???

It's bags, not fruit. Gotta remember that.
I have to assume Juicero was inspired by this video:
What was even the point of this? Didn't they say you could squeeze the bags out yourself better :v:
What was even the point of this? Didn't they say you could squeeze the bags out yourself better :v:
It was Bloomberg I believe that published a video showing that you could just squeeze the bags and get a negligibly lower amount of juice than using the press. I tried to buy the juice, not only did they not sell in the entire North East but they will actually not sell you the juice bags unless you're a verified owner, and they used that as a selling point for the $700 (because it was $700 at the start) juicer, being part of an exclusive base able to buy their $10 Capri Suns.
No, it's a shame that this level of engineering and design went into a fucking WORTHLESS JUICING MACHINE.
That aswell. We get more useful and used products with way shittier quality than this. It's an engineer's wet dream to look at the internals of this thing, and even for the Average Joe, its easy to see its pretty well built.
Juicero could've been successful if they existed as just a subscription service that mailed those juice packets to your house. Their whole schtick about fresh squeezed juice would still apply; you just use your hands, and you wouldn't need some stupid $400 juicer. I feel like the initial idea at the company was the presser and the juice packet delivery was the after thought, and then either they didn't realize the juice packet delivery was the better idea or they were simply unwilling to drop the juicer idea after putting so much R&D into it. [editline].[/editline] I mean hell they could have kept the juicer if it didn't have DRM and it wasn't used as a paywall for the juice packet service.
how the hell did these people even get scammed out of their money? at this point I'd be more interesting in something these people have NOT invested in
to be fair, HAAS Portman (not related to the CNC mill manufacturer from what i can tell) invested 70$M of that [editline]2nd September 2017[/editline]
Juicero could've been successful if they existed as just a subscription service that mailed those juice packets to your house. "Oh its like keurig and K-cups for juice! Its got built in revanue streeams! its like a subscription box!" then they got the money and had to actually build the whole shebang and obviously they contracted everything out without even the slightest idea.
I'm honestly surprised they're not allowing third parties to make their own bags, with a firmware update that removes the gimmicky DRM crap. Or better yet: Some sort of heavy-duty resealable bag (third-party, of course) that you can put your own fruit and shit in that can withstand being squeezed by this IoT UBERPRESS without you having to worry about expiration dates on pre-made packets or limited juice selections.

The machine is likely sold at a loss, it's so incredibly highly engineered that the manufacturing cost is higher than the sale price. If they allowed people to use third party bags, they'd go out of business anyways. Either way, they're fucked, all they'd do is save a bit of face by removing the DRM.
True, but at least then we wouldn't have all these fancy machines going to a dump somewhere.
something tells me people are going to buy these on discount if for no other reason than to re purpose the heavy as fuck drive system or scavenge parts.
Something just now occurred to me about this whole thing. In order to fill those juice packets, they presumably had to ship real fruit into a factory somewhere, and have a huge industrial-grade juicer juice it THERE. Then they ship all those little bags out to you so your "juicer" can just remove it from the bag. I recognized before that the thing had way too many unnecessary steps, but I just keep finding MORE unnecessary steps.
Didn't this thing even get funding and endorsements from a whole bunch of high profile people
Yep, the demand was as manufactured as the product itself.

The whole point was that it's freshly "juiced" at your house by the machine. Which yeah, it's rich people bullshit, but if I was a rich asshole I could see the appeal. But even rich assholes aren't gonna pay $400 for a juicer that can be easily replaced by squeezing the bags yourself.
the funny thing is they are discontinuing the juicero brand juice bags. and the juicero can only press those bags. meaning that the moment they stop production you really are going to get stuck with 400 dollar presser that can't even do it's purpose. a literal paperweight
This is really unfair to the company. It would also make a fantastic doorstop or decorative item
Juicero would have been pretty great as a hand crank squeezer or lever or something tbh look at this page and see how massively overengineered this is it's literally a vice but 10000x more complex than a device that's been around for hundreds of years [editline]4th September 2017[/editline] if we're really going to use a device for it [t]http://i.ebayimg.com/images/i/360843616519-0-1/s-l1000.jpg[/t] but for bags would have been sufficient
