What I don't understand is why they are allowed to try this AGAIN after they were already shot down by the FCC once. Will they keep trying year after year until the people are tired and cave in eventually?
Yes. See: Obamacare repeal.
Just another reason I hate the FCC
Just another reason I hate the FCC
ya "bipartisan" commissions seem to just be purely partisan rubber stamps. pai is the most rediculous chariccature though just look at the mans history, he refused to meet with wheeler at any point in his fcc term and blasted him for not being transparent with them. its just infuriating how bad the gop is for the country yet they still get elected. these things don't exist in a vacuum, if you hate the cable monopolies stop electing republicans, if you hate fucked up water don't vote republican, they only serve to fuck over the agencies they run but people forget that fact
Hey, I just wanted to inform everyone of a pretty easy way to contact your representatives. Someone wrote a bot, at the number '50409'. If you text it with the word "resist," it'll ask you for your name and your address. from there you'll be able to write a message to your representatives. I really advise everyone who cares about this issue to take 5 minutes and send a message. Anything helps. This bot essentially just faxes your message to your representatives. If you don't want to compose your own message use this one: Edit: If you're looking for more information on the bot, check here: https://resistbot.io/index.html
Thanks for that! I'm at work, so I don't have time for lengthy emails, but did my part here.
I sent messages to my reps as well. Unfortunately that's only 3 out of many, and I know my reps back net neutrality already
It doesn't matter if they are dems or republicans, both of them don't give a single fuck about us.
Ah, again the fallacy of false equivalency.
Ah, again the fallacy of false equivalency.
Oh shit, forgot I was on facepunch.
one gives slightly more of a fuck about us, dont even try it even if its a half-fuck, it's more of a fuck than republicans give about net neutrality
I'll believe that when I see it.
Unfortunately my local representative seems to be against any form of government regulation. His website doesn't even mention Net Neutrality anywhere, the closest being "the FCC must not impose overreaching regulations that violate First Amendment rights and have adverse affects on the economy." We have a democratic senator but he doesn't seem to have any particular stance on Net Neutrality either. The only thing I can even find about it with him is a that someone on reddit emailed him asking him his position and the response is just a time line of different events relevant to NN and him saying he'll "watch the issue closely".
It was nice knowing you Americans. You're kinda goofy, but the place is gonna' be dull without you.
It was nice knowing you Americans. You're kinda goofy, but the place is gonna' be dull without you.
If you think this is just going to affect americans you can think again. When other governments and companies that don't have protections in place see how easy it is to get their way you can bet it'll get pushed there too.

I'm not worried for the internet in country though, Internet providers are barely privatised in the first place here.
I'll believe that when I see it.
You've literally just seen it. Under a Democratic president strong net neutrality rules were put into place. Republicans take power and immediately reverse them. Please explain how you've looked at that and decided that both sides are the same

One step closer for reps to achieve their Corporate States of America. Motherfucking scum.
One step closer for reps to achieve their Corporate States of America. Motherfucking scum.
Ironically, my representative emailed me back a form letter about how, "The Internet has always thrived on innovation, not government control." Republicans won't stop until the single biggest source of innovation in the past half century is another way to thrall the average citizen to the wills of corporations. Oh, fun fact: she took $56k in campaign contributions from telecom companies. Know what I'm sure will drive innovation? Letting an industry with widespread natural monopolies price-gouge consumers. Monopolies have tons of incentive to innovate, right?

She's completely in the pockets of the corporations. She's even trying to keep towns like mine from sharing their high speed internet with nearby rural areas. The worst part is, she'll probably never be ousted, because she's levying her anti-abortion stance to guarantee her the white evangelical vote. She'll probably slide right into Bob Corker's seat like nothing thanks to all the bible-thumpers.

Over 2/3 of a million dollars, it seems.
I think we might live in the same state, or they're using cookie cutter messages now.
It's the same argument most of the anti-NN people make. Da gubernment regulations are strangling da poor ISPs and stopping innovation.
It's the same argument most of the anti-NN people make. Da gubernment regulations are strangling da poor ISPs and stopping innovation.
The US's big period of innovation in telecommunications was when we had a monopoly that was regulated. As soon as we deregulated, that shit went down the tubes. What a fucking joke.
why bother fighting if we've already lost
Hint: Ajit used to work for them.
No, he still works for them. Now it's just secret.
FCC Chairman Ajit Pai will reveal plans to his fellow commissioners on Tuesday to fully dismantle the agency's Obama-era net neutrality regulations, people familiar with the plans said, in a major victory for the telecom industry in the long-running policy debate. Trump-appointed Pai’s plan would scrap the agency’s core net neutrality rules, which prohibit internet service providers like Comcast or Verizon from blocking or slowing web traffic or negotiating paid deals with websites for “fast lanes” to consumers. The FCC will vote on the change in December.
:hammered:
If you think this is just going to affect americans you can think again. When other governments and companies that don't have protections in place see how easy it is to get their way you can bet it'll get pushed there too.
No, not just yet. Canada has had net neutrality challenged several times by our ISPs, and has shot them down every single time, going so far as to classify internet as a utility or 'essential service' the last time. With all due respect, most of the world has been given a very good reason this year to flee the sinking ship that the US appears from the outside to be, not to join them in their fall. So fully will corporations control you now if this passes that they'll even get to pick what they let you see on the internet, what opinions you and more importantly your children are exposed to. It's not like the agencies that pass for 'news organizations' there don't control the TV airwaves already, under the media conglomerates. I know people are fighting this, and I really hope you guys win.
why bother fighting if we've already lost
What makes you think you already lost when the fight has not even ended yet? There is not much that I can do about this directly unfortunately, being a Japanese citizen, but this has the potential to spread worldwide if it passes. It needs to stop, and you American friends must not stop the fight.
why bother fighting if we've already lost
Even if they take it away do you really think democratic candidates would ignore it? They've seen Bernie, they know what will be a very useful demographic motivate for 2020. And given how things played out before we got net neutrality, I'm pretty doubtful we'd have to see the absolute worst-case assumed scenario before then.
Should this pass though, it'll be a damnable time reversing it. If I'm not mistaken, I believe they've included something in their bill (I think it's a bill? I'm not entirely sure what it's even called) that essentially says it's only possible to reverse it through Congress, or something along those lines.
