Grigori was always my favorite HL2 character, and bill was the best L4D character as well...
Damn, rest in peace dude.
The sad thing is that I'm now expecting the voice actors to pass away more than i am expecting another Half-Life game.
Grigori was one of my favorite minor characters in HL2. His voice acting was perfect, and you can tell French put a ton of emotion into his lines.

Believe it or not, there was a cancelled HL2 Episode that would have taken place in Ravenholm developed by Arkane.
http://www.pcgamer.com/warren-spector-discusses-a-return-to-ravenholm-in-his-cancelled-half-life-2-episode/ Appearently it would have featured Grigori in some way or another (might have even been the player for all we know.)
Really wish Grigori had a HL2 episode taking place either before or after he met Freeman. I.E. back when Ravenholm was full of refugees and first being hit with shells, and all you had was Annabelle. Or after you helped Freeman escape, and what happened to him then. (Up to the Citadel explosion, or how/if he escaped the explosion.)
I always thought he survived the zombie horde. It's never really shown what happens to him. Some say you can see him die, but he hides in a crypt, so whatever does happen is offscreen and left ambiguous.

Gabe Newell is already dead to me
IMAGINE
All that customer goodwill. Possibly the biggest game-developer pedigree in history. Millions of loyal fans at least, willing to give a whole lot of benefit of the doubt, for years.
Fucking squandered.
EDIT
I mean shit, Valve started the fucking lootbox thing, but i don't feel like that was pounced upon, because valve was our darling. Think of that loyalty.
They had the whole gaming world in their hands. What fucking morons.

Steam makes so much money, and because of their flat structure they only do what their employees like and enjoy doing, and oddball stuff like the steam controller. Also I don't really blame Gabe for what happened, maybe the leaders of the cabals bully team members if they try to leave to make a new half life.

Sometimes he can die during that final sequence. I swear I've seen it happen before.
That's really sad, now him, Breen and Eli's voice actors are gone
Luckily the characters listed are dead anyway.
I hope any future games from them have the dev commentary, I want to hear Gabe say "thanks and have fun" again. His voice is strangely pleasant, he should do voice cameos in their games.
I had a fairly long phone conversation with him years ago. My dad sold a couple knives to him and talked him into calling me up knowing I was into Half-Life and game design/modelling. He is incredibly interesting to listen to and he does have a very pleasant voice :v:.
Shame I was an absolute nervous wreck and couldn't think of many questions to ask him because I was frozen in place lol. He also had the guy who modeled the head for Gollum/Shmeagle on speaker phone, which made it even worse. I kind of feel like a dick because I can't remember his name.
Anyway, shit this sucks. Father Grigori was easily one of my favorite characters and he did an absolutely phenomenal job performing that role.

He'll either die or disappear into a small mine tunnel iirc.

Was/Is that person who made models for LOTR a Valve employee? They already have at least one person who worked on the films, Mike Morasky, the main composer at Valve since Kelly Bailey left, composed for the films.

This must have been eight or nine years ago, so it's hard to say. I know he's a friend or at least closely associated with Gabe, so maybe. But he specifically said he modeled the head for Gollum and we talked about Zbrush for a while.
It seems a bit disrespectful to see people talking about Valve and how all hope for Half Life 3 is fading, when someone just died.
Like, we can honor and remember someone's life without using it as an opportunity to criticize someone/something else.

his name's Bay Raitt. He didn't model Gollum's head if i recall correctly (could be wrong though,) but he created the facial animation pipeline for him, and later at valve helped design the FACs system for Source. even later he helped produce the HWM system for the TF characters and their subsequent movies in the source filmmaker. oh, and he also started the source filmmaker (and was the main guy and the face behind it.) He's since left the company and is now making VR comic books and other neato stuff.
He's awesome, he once did a google hangout with me and a couple friends from a source filmmaker group so we could ask some questions about the HWM system since there's no official documentation for it, as well as to teach us some internal tools he helped create for maya that we stumbled upon. super fucking talented and super fucking cool about everything.
