• AMD drivers put ads on your desktop

Good to see they've got rid of it. I've supported AMD for a good decade now, but like any company if you give them an inch they'll take a mile. I hate to see them driving off customers when they're only just getting their shit together after a rough few years.
You mean it's removed?
Yeah, I just updated, not a link in sight.
So, NVIDIA's Geforce Experience requires a mandatory account, and AMD is putting out ads outside of their drivers and software. Guess we should all start using Intel integrated graphics.:badzing: [del]In all seriousness, with the probably decent amount of backlash this is getting, I could see AMD either removing this from future installers for this driver, or just for the next driver. AMD is in more of a position to try their best to accomodate their consumers given how relatively small their market share is all around.[/del] Nevermind, I see they've already removed it. Good on AMD.
You might not care about your software's integrity, but a lot of people do. It's about not betraying your trust, even if it's a small transgression like this one. I get it, you're the sort of guy who doesn't care, and it's okay. Just don't go uphold your standards to other people and talking them down when they disagree with your judgment.
This is precisely the kind of pearl clutching I'm talking about. You mope on about "software integrity" or "betraying trust" like they started injected ads into games or tracking your app usage and selling it to 3rd-parties. Placing a shortcut on the desktop is not unprecedented, and while it was evidently a bad move - to act like AMD just raped your computer is just disproportionate. Are we really so precious that we can't go "hey AMD don't do this again in the future" instead of "HOW DARE YOU AMD MY SOFTWARE INTEGRITY I'M NEVER BUYING AN AMD PRODUCT EVER AGAIN RAAAAR".
Please find one person in this thread that said "I'm never buying an AMD product ever again" followed by some sort of reptilian scream.
Post 30 and 35 are pretty much that, sans the scream. Also not so sure reptilians scream like that.
Please find one person in this thread that said "I'm never buying an AMD product ever again" followed by some sort of reptilian scream.

Well that sure killed any desire I had to consider AMD in future, this is the kind of thing I expect from shitty software companies not a major hardware producer, yeah nvidia might have ads in the installer but at least it fucks off when it's done.
Also, totally called what would happen
What I bet will happen is that they get bad PR, remove this, "apologize," and then we all just continue on our way.
This was a dumb ordeal, but some of you really blew it up too far. Did you really think, with all the effort that AMD was putting into PR, that they would suddenly pull a 180 and put ads in their products, alienating their userbase they worked so hard to get?
to AMD's credit they removed it almost immediately. Nvidia probably wouldn't have.
Fucking shitty drivers. God I hate AMD. I reinstalled their drivers yesterday and after installation I received a good ol' black screen. I also get a black screen when booting. Jeez.
Fucking shitty drivers. God I hate AMD. I reinstalled their drivers yesterday and after installation I received a good ol' black screen. I also get a black screen when booting. Jeez.
I've had an AMD card for ~8 years and have never had a driver problem.
You don't have to use Geforce Experience to update drivers
Shadowplay tho
People seem to be talking extremes but I think a majority of people are just saying it was a shitty thing to do. Not screaming about AMD being complete shit or something.
You don't have to use Geforce Experience to update drivers
But you do have to use it for Shadowplay and various other features. You could use OBS instead of Shadowplay, but Shadowplay is definitely more seamless.
I only use the nvidia driver and physx so I'm glad nvidia hasn't gone full retard yet, sadly the recent driver update gave me another malicious service nvidia telemetry type shit I nuked it instantly.

And I still plan on buying a Ryzen R5 1600X. I'm not sure what you're talking about here at all. [editline]28th April 2017[/editline] And even if you're talking about others- It's their right to vote with their wallets if they think this isn't right. The only issue is that you're going to buy into Nvidia and their shady business practices and even worse trust-related woes.
"drivers" I downloaded a 100MB audio driver for my new laptop. For a piece of software which has to take a buffer off of Windows and stuff it into a DAC, it's a little big Things that this software does: • Pop up a window when you plug your headphones in, asking whether it's headphones or a lineout • Fancy custom titlebar • This window is always on top of other windows • It immediately freezes. You have to go to task manager and force close it before you can use your computer again Things it does not do • Make sound actually come out of the speakers How did this become a trend :hammered:
So, NVIDIA's Geforce Experience requires a mandatory account
Which is garbage, but at least installing Experience is optional, ain't having any of that bloatware
Which is garbage, but at least installing Experience is optional, ain't having any of that bloatware
Optional, but default on Express Install
Here's an archive from 1998 with someone talking about the same issue. AMD should not be doing this. Well minus the "I've been online for 3 1/2 years now and I've never seen such a thing before!"
First rule of installation media: never do express install unless you want the new ASK toolbar, with the latest internet explorer emojis.
Yeah, I thought we all learned this in, like, 2007. Fuck that goddamn ASK toolbar. :v:
Which is garbage, but at least installing Experience is optional, ain't having any of that bloatware
I wouldn't really call the recording stuff bloatware, it's uber lightweight
Seems they learned.
What a cute response "s-sorry consumer senpai, it will never happen again!" Since this thread is about AMD's software I'm gonna rant about it irrelevantly for a bit. Who in the fuck thought that making recording software that has NO push-to-talk function whatsoever was a good idea? It makes ReLive absolutely useless for me and I'm sure for many others, and I've seen many people complaining about it online. How bloody hard can it be to implement? Right now the microphone can only be toggled on and off.
I wouldn't really call the recording stuff bloatware, it's uber lightweight
Shadowplay's not the only thing included in Experience, I also never record any footage, so there's literally no reason for me to install it
I guess hot girls within 1 km will now notice me again
What a cute response "s-sorry consumer senpai, it will never happen again!"
I bet you also complain when companies remain silent about things.
I bet you also complain when companies remain silent about things.
I wasn't complaining, I was being genuine. I thought it was a cute response. No idea why you would assume that I was being cynical or complaining about anything. There is no indication whatsoever in my post that I was complaining about AMD's response.
AMD fine wine!
