The film was so bad RT probably decided it wouldn't be a great idea to accept Sony's paycheck... Unless the point of the film was to be so bad that everyone ends up seeing it once.

Really, the thing is that even if we waited until it was $1 at a dollar theater, that's still an hour and a half of my life that I could've spent watching something better. I don't go to the movies often, but when I do I want it to be a good experience. Plus, Spiderman is my favorite superhero. I wouldn't mind Sony being forced to give up the rights, especially not after Homecoming.

Boxofficemojo is giving it a more conservative prediction of 2nd place opening weekend at $22 million, as opposed to the 1st place $30 million others are predicting. They're usually pretty accurate so at least we'll likely be spared seeing commercials calling this the "#1 movie in America!!!". Instead they'll probably just take that dumb shortcut studios have started taking where they just call it the "#1 Comedy in America" or some other more specific label so they can still claim it's #1 lol
