What, TRON is mentioned here! This shouldn't be compared to TRON!

A better message is to be the "best version of whatever you need to be" whenever possible
it's a much easier message to make up a plot from (since it brings out character development for free) and it's a far more positive one
"Be yourself" is associated with shitty stories because it is antithetical to storytelling. Most stories are stories of people who overcome difficulties not only on the outside but also in the inside, overcoming one's flaws to become a generally better person (or failing and having a tragic end). It also gets confused with "don't act only to appease others" which is a fairly less terrible moral.

Maybe RT could use this film as a study to see which reviewers don't belong here since this is two positive reviews with methods that just ruin the accuracy for all the movies they review
reminder they're planning a fidget spinner movie as well
How the FUCK could you make a movie out of that
How the FUCK could you make a movie out of that
don't ask that because sony might actually try to answer it
Boxofficemojo is giving it a more conservative prediction of 2nd place opening weekend at $22 million, as opposed to the 1st place $30 million others are predicting. They're usually pretty accurate so at least we'll likely be spared seeing commercials calling this the "#1 movie in America!!!". Instead they'll probably just take that dumb shortcut studios have started taking where they just call it the "#1 Comedy in America" or some other more specific label so they can still claim it's #1 lol
welp so much for that http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=4309&p=.htm
SATURDAY AM UPDATE: With an estimated $10 million on Friday, Sony's The Emoji Movie is going to be in a tight race with WB's Dunkirk for #1 at the weekend box office. Dunkirk landed an estimated $8 million on its second Friday in release and both films are looking to gross over $27 million for the weekend. It will largely come down to how Emoji plays over the weekend as opening day audiences gave the film a "B" CinemaScore, though kids under the age of 18 gave it an "A-".
cue the "#1 movie in America" advertising storm o boy. but yea everyone's taking their kids to see this since there's just no other options for kids movies out right now or next week. my hope for this bombing drops ever further. I'm curious if they're even gonna bother quoting any reviews for the new commercials tho, cause at this point they're gonna have to find some random ass radio station to quote if they really want to find something positive enough to mention lol.
Despicable 3 already gone?

Totally contrarian critics are nothing new to RT as there's already one that's very well known for reviewing films that are otherwise universally agreed upon with a polar opposite review. It's just such an easy way to generate views and become famous as a critic and seeing as how he's done it for years it's safe to say if RT was gonna do something about it, they would've already. not gonna be surprised if his positive review for this drops soon since this is too tempting to resist. really tho it's pretty entertaining to see people try to justify their reviews so I'm not bothered by it at least lol
Despicable 3 already gone?
no but it's been playing for 5 weeks now so people are gonna be looking for something new at this point
I find it odd and depressing that people are so desperate to find somewhere to plant their kids for a couple hours. They'll settle for an objectively bad and worthless movie instead of no movie at all.
Why do I feel like it would be a good strategy to give this film a positive review and bring attention to your website/publication
and kill all your credibility in the same move. nah, i'd have a hard time to take that person seriously.
reminder they're planning a fidget spinner movie as well
theres a whole world of fidget spinners with minion-like faces walking about spinning but one fidget spinner finds out he can spin the opposite direction, but that's frowned up on in fidget spinner land so like secret conformity police chase the fidget spinner into the path of a pink fidget spinner who also spins the other way then stuff happens and the secret police leader spins the other way on accident and in the end everybody parties spinning every which way
also product placement and dabbing

But who's gonna be the voice guest starring? Patrick and Al Pacino did what they had to do so, we need another high tier actor/actress.

Daniel Day-Lewis is coming out of retirement for the fidget spinner movie. You heard it here first.

Someone from one of the music labels Sony owns, like, toss a dart board with the names of all their singers under 25.

Except Armond White gives negative reviews too.
He's actually giving his opinions, not just giving a "its good" for every last thing
However, it appears that the people in question are "tomatometer approved", which means RT actually looked at these guys and said "yep"
So they probably won't be doing anything.
Granted the woman from CSM might have been approved over a different publication than the one that rates based off child friendly

They'll take a cue from Scary Movie 3+ and have glowing reviews from 'totally real' people with 'funny' names. Because if The Emoji Movie is good enough for I.P. Freely, Peni Sindapants and the discriminating taste of Lotta Cooties it's good enough for my kids.
They could also do the classic of taking the one positive line out of a scathing review and using that
Except Armond White gives negative reviews too.

he didn't say white only gives positive reviews though?
Sony seriously don't deserve any success for this shit. Just think, we'll be seeing these films for years if this blows up.
he didn't say white only gives positive reviews though?
He was replying to my post where I was talking about a person who does
its at 8% on metacritic
thats the lowest ive ever seen
Oh my god, that is worse than Norm of the North.
Norm of the North was 21% at least
He was replying to me where I was responding over a person who does
yeah, i missed a bit of context there, my bad.
still, i think it's optimistic to assume armond white is honest. he goes against the grain so often and so predictably, it's hard to see him as not being contrarian just for the sake of being contrarian
what if first half of a movie was "be yourself" moral, but then midway through the main character upon getting the "be yourself" thing turns into a huge asshole and a sociopath or something and the rest of the movie's about that?
Actually, I legit wanted to make a story where characters are actually twisted by generic morals. Like "being yourself" is some crazy person who appeals to his true, psychopathic self. "Never stop fighting for what you believe in" is a highly misled character who is overtly ambitious on his own selfish goals. Etc. etc.
Except Armond White gives negative reviews too.

Uh I didn't say he doesn't, hence i specified contrarian
You're most likely right I should probably say "an opinion". It's a little harder to prove than pointing out that a guy has no negative reviews.
It'd be hilarious if he was actually that flipped though. But it's more likely he's doing it either to be contrarian, get attention, or make a statement about critic aggregation.
Uh I didn't say he doesn't, hence i specified contrarian
Yeah but I was talking about someone who seems to have a 100% positive record and not contrarians is all
Sorry for the confusion

sony likely has all of their movies planned for the next 500 years
They'll take a cue from Scary Movie 3+ and have glowing reviews from 'totally real' people with 'funny' names. Because if The Emoji Movie is good enough for I.P. Freely, Peni Sindapants and the discriminating taste of Lotta Cooties it's good enough for my kids.
I've seen movie ads that literally used quotes from random people on Twitter
I've seen movie ads that literally used quotes from random people on Twitter
Fun fact: half the time they are actually twitter accounts registered by the studio just for this.
