Is there an amount of deaths that the US has to reach before the problem is actually solved?
That'd require anyone with the given power to actually address what causes this shit to not immediately go full retard instead of actually cooperating with one another.
I imagine it as one of those small one-room churches - virtually no way out and no way to avoid gunfire, it'd be a fucking killbox I hope the death toll doesn't rise more than it already has but I really fear the worse here
I doubt any fat ladies would have stopped the shooter, but it could have been possible that a gun could have stopped this gun violence.
https://news.stanford.edu/2017/06/21/violent-crime-increases-right-carry-states/ http://www.nber.org/papers/w23510 "Examining decades of crime data, Stanford Law Professor John Donohue’s analysis shows that violent crime in RTC states was estimated to be 13 to 15 percent higher – over a period of 10 years – than it would have been had the state not adopted the law." So yeah, while in theory and in a utopian world a good guy with a gun will stop a bad guy with a gun, in the real world things don't work quite that simply. The people stopped by good guys with guns is offset by the large increase in gun crime in general. A second good guy with a gun might have an incomplete picture of the situation and shoot the first good guy with a gun thinking him to be the bad guy with a gun. etc etc
Imagine how much damage the shooter could’ve done if he had a tank. (User was banned for this post ("Shitpost" - Mezzokoko))
Imagine how much damage the shooter could’ve done if he had a tank.
Imagine how much damage the shooter could’ve done if he had an F-22 Raptor fighter jet. Are we doing outlandish hypotheticals or something?
So yeah, while in theory and in a utopian world a good guy with a gun will stop a bad guy with a gun, in the real world things don't work quite that simply.
Americans have this weird wild west fantasy of whipping their pistol out and then banging the trigger until the bad guy is a dead guy, but they never account for every factor involved like... other people who could have guns, and other people that could get hit. its really fucking weird.
Imagine how much damage the shooter could’ve done if he had a tank.
Yeah but if one of the church-goers had a tank too we could have stopped this haha
Couldn't wait any longer for far cry 5 I guess. (User was permabanned for this post ("Massively insensitive shitpost" - Big Dumb American))
In one of these small Texas towns that can easily be like half the town that just got exicuted... Everyone is going to be impact by this there. Those poor people.
Wiki suggests that its population is 643 (~4%).
Couldn't wait any longer for far cry 5 I guess.
People are dead. Children are dead.
Wiki suggests that its population is 643 (~4%).
Grew up in a town of ~800. Cant even begin to fathom would a mass casualty event would do to a community like that. Theyre going to be absolutely devastated from this.

Shooter has been officially identified, also death toll has risen to 30.
To be honest I find it annoying and slightly crazy that every time a mass shooting happens in the US, people go "This is fine. There's nothing we can do, it's a natural but unavoidable product of our free society". I think a lot of us are just glad we live in the sane, and, well, actually civilised part of the world.
It is an unavoidable product of this particular free society, due to how new it is and how it was founded. In time, this will change, and it will be able to be fixed. But for the time being, it is not something that can be changed and it is much more effective to talk about how we can mitigate issues related to the fact that guns are currently everywhere in this country.
This is awful, there is no need for anything like this ever. My condolences go out to the families.

Another vet? Probably untreated mental health issues thanks to America's garbage mental healthcare.

I'm not surprised it's a white guy but as a half arab, I'm so relieved he wasn't an arab. Every time a mass shooting happens here I'm always terrified it'll be an Arab man and further the already deep divide in this country Of course, him being a white guy, it's basically confirmed nothing will happen now and there will be no wider ramifications to gun control (or lack thereof)

It's not just a white people thing?

This is the second time now theyve fell for it. Amazing.
Nothing was done after any of the shootings or bombings or truck attacks done by muslims. It's not just a white people thing?
Nothing, really? I seem to recall a travel ban aimed specifically at Muslim majority nations, as well as dozens of people from said countries getting stranded in airports due to the confusion the haphazard announcement of said travel ban created. Not to mention, it's historically shown that hate crimes against muslims and arabs increase after terror attacks. If a white guy does it, the worst you get is some half-assed talk about introducing new legislation and half of america screaming about guns being taken away and the other half trying to legislate them. [editline] 5 November 2017[/editline]
The number of anti-Muslim hate crimes in the United States rose 91 percent in the first half of the year compared with the same period in 2016, according to a leading Muslim advocacy and civil rights group.
http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/07/cair-hate-crimes-muslims-spike-trump-win-170718034249621.html when one muslim terrorist commits an act of terror, it's free reign for those specific violent bigots in this country to take it out on innocent people who had nothing to do with it, and it isn't shrinking, it only grows. The Arab/Muslim community is the only one of many marginalized groups of people that get retaliated against for something they had nothing to do with except that they're from the same culture (or thought to be from the same culture) as the attacker.

you know, i see shit like this and it makes me wonder just how much disinformation there actually is in the news. that representative giving out the suspected name of a mass murderer without seeming the basest research is heavily irresponsible.
you know, i see shit like this and it makes me wonder just how much disinformation there actually is in the news. that representative giving out the suspected name of a mass murderer without seeming the basest research is heavily irresponsible.
Giving out a name on live television without concrete proof of evidence has gotten so many people doxxed in the past, but you know what? The media doesn't and has never given a shit about that.

I know the meme is "how does he keep getting away with it", but seriously, how does CNN keep getting away with this? You'd think someone somewhere in the organization would have had a moment of inspiration and have put an internal flag on the name Sam Hyde by now. This isn't even just shitty journalism. This is straight up managerial incompetence.
What can the media do live on television on the phone with a congressman? I guess just treat all congressmen as liars and never bring them on live when something happens in their constituency.
Maybe dont bring politicians onto live air to talk about the suspect if he hasnt actually been ID'd yet? Maybe leave that to LEO and not some dipshit on the phone that isnt part of the investigation.
What can the media do live on television on the phone with a congressman?
