I might be alone in this but I actually liked the old theater mode. If I wanted the video to fill the screen I'd just go into full screen.
I'm actually mostly ok with this update. My only qualms are the circle avatars and how bright the youtube logo is in dark mode.
I wish they make a more compact version of the new interface.
It's super yuge on my tablet
Ahh, Perfect.

Good old Edit Layout button is a gateway to old-tube

Seriously though, the good thing from this new layout is the new account menu. The old one used to suck IMO.

The new menu is nice, but I frequently only used two the two things that were on there; switching accounts and going to the creator studio. Now it takes two clicks to switch and sometimes I hit "sign out". Really minor gripes I know.

there's a fix for this on the stylish plugin for chrome

very recommended, also there's a couple dark themes for FP if you want that
My only complaint is the shade of grey they used on the all-white background.
Also when I want to read more of a video's description, I keep hitting the "Sort By" button instead of "Read More" because it's bigger and keeps attracting my eyes.
If they broke up the space in between the recommended videos and what not or used a darker/thicker line on video pages, that might help a bit.
I honestly didn't even notice the shade of red changed. Noticed the font change immediately though, go figure. :v:
The layout doesn't bug me though. If anything, it fixed a few problems I had with the old design, notably that theater mode is actually useful now. Its closer to the good ol pop out video player they had like 10 years ago.
Im just sad the update broke the channel blocker plugin I was using
The new logo just makes me think of Marlboro.

Personally I'd really like something similar to twitch that doesn't make the video fullscreen but also removes scrolling from the page entirely.
It's super useful when playing any games involving the scroll wheel since windows 10 still has this annoying bug where scrolling in a game will randomly scroll shit on your side monitors.

The biggest issue to me if that on a 1080p screen, theatre mode is slightly bigger than 720p, making 720p video awful and blurry (in fact, it makes all videos blurry, since it doesn't perfectly fit into any resolution). It used to be the way to get 720p video as crisp as 1080p by viewing it at its native size, at the expense of the video being smaller.

I have a userstyle on my computer that makes the page a theatre mode.
Video takes up the entire window, one problem is you cannot style firefox scrollbars (it's technically not in spec either). Which means either you get a lobsided video, or a like 8 pixels cropped.
using it for ages, feels pretty good just not having any other content on screen, which can just scrolled to
They finally made theatre mode actually usable and scale properly.

Before I had to actually zoom in on the video.

Only downside is the lack of utilization of space to the sides.

is the new layout loading slower for anyone else? it feels really sluggish and like it takes longer to load individual parts. i switched back to the old layout to see if it was a problem on my end and it still worked fine
I didn't notice much of a difference. Are you using Google DNS or your ISPs?
Huh, was it just the logo that changed? The op makes it seem like they revamped the whole look of TY UI.
Wtf is this bs? I've had this "new look" for at least 1.5 years but today it changed back to what it looked like back then but with brighter red??

No more dark mode RIP
Youtube has had a long and storied history of fucking the UI and user experience with every update. But this one is so subyle I didnt even really notice when my browser started loading it. And now that I know of dark mode, I'm quite happy wjth the redesign.
new layout: overall pretty good except for a few missing features for the owner of the video
new logo: why
did the website revert back to the old layout for anyone else?
I've been one of the many chosen ones to test the new layout for a while but now everything is back to the old layout

I reverted manually

the link to return it
I had gotten this look about a week ago but then it reverted back to the layout we all have been used to. Now I have the new layout again.
Besides cinema mode being terrible designed (because seeing the views for the video is more important than the channel name, apparently) they managed to fuck up playlists so now when you have a large playlist and it gets to the next video the playlist window scrolls back to the top. I swear they just grabbed a half blind hobo from in front of their office, filled him full of booze and let him go nuts on the site.

It reverts back to old look as soon as I open another YouTube tab.
It looks like Youtube now also has a new mode to restrict access to a video called Limited Features
It works like the age restriction, but is a lot more agressive. You have to confirm before watching the video even when you are signed in.
Futhermore; no sharing, no embedding, no like/dislike, no monetizing, no comments, no related videos, no adding to playlists, and no direct link to uploader account.
For example:
Age restricted. If you are signed it and have confirmed videos before, it won't show the confirmation:

Limited Features (Warning! Weeaboo Hitler content ahead):

In case you can't open the bottom video, this is what the video page looks like. Notice the lack of almost anything.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/On4KW2O.png[/t]
I'm alright with this, but they couldn't include the creator's name?
EDIT Oh, it's there in parentheses. No gripes then.
Can youtube implement something useful for once like the ability to search through your whole liked videos list(I got over 2000 liked videos and i have to load all of them to ctrl+F the fucking list) and add in some sort of notification that tells you what videos you liked/fav got taken down? I cant stand it when there are gaps in my like list for videos that have mysteriously disappeared and youtube cant even tell me what the title of the damn video was. Its like stealing my memory to an extent.
after clicking 'go back to old youtube'
I recognize exactly all the shit I hate about this new change. Too much spacing makes the whole website look like a giant mobile app. I don't like the bold letters, grey text. I prefer the smaller and more compact design of the old layout with the blue text as titles. Youtube please skip the retarded 'mobile' style design changes and just give us the useful shit(posted above).
I noticed they improved cinema mode to stretch across your whole window which is very nice if you have two windows on either side of the screen.

I noticed that they did add the ability to browse your comment history - I haven't tested it yet, but it should be useful for removing any embarrassing stuff from way back, in case I ever get an audience.
I just really miss when YouTube had a "related videos" section on the video page, so I could bounce between similar videos. Now it's just one related one, and the rest are a generic suggested list. Doesn't matter if I'm watching a video about Mario, it'll still suggest me a Gordon Ramsey video if it thinks so.
It runs like ass to me, fullscreening/unfullscreening a video takes a good 10 seconds or so and the comment text bar is un-usable because of how sluggish it is. I have no idea why either, it's just Youtube that's this slow and it's just after this recent update.
