Firefox has its own sync that does all of that
To me it's easy to jump from Android to android under Google's umbrella. It's why chrome is so widely used and why even if you have Mac OS and an iOS device you stick with safari because again everything is lumped together
How compatible is Quantum with everything that works on Firefox 57?
Quantum IS Firefox 57. Any extensions from Firefox 56 and before need a rewrite to the new API. uBlock Origin, HTTPS Everywhere and some themes are already carried over. Any appearance mods like Classic Theme Restorer are dead in the water. [editline]14th November 2017[/editline] If you REALLY want the Firefox 3.x look in [current year] check out Pale Moon, a FF ESR fork that uses its own renderer among other things. It has a Gecko fork that's closer to Web standards and is native 64bit.
I gave up on using Firefox a few weeks ago(after using it for years) when they broke extensions in favor of using chrome like ones. If I wanted to use chrome I'd use chrome.

Feels like this push for WebExtensions comes too soon if there are still missing APIs.

I'm assuming addons like Tab Mix Plus probably won't work either which sucks. I really wish they hadn't embraced WebExtensions even if I understand their reasoning for doing so. After all there's no chance in hell Google would adhere to anyone else's standards so it's up to everyone else to adhere to Google's shitty system if they want things standardized even if it means totally gutting their own superior system.
I'd make the switch to try it but there are two itty bitty problems I run into. 1, a Reddit inbox addon I use has no FF version, which is more than a little annoying. 2, Chrome seems hellbent on not letting me export my passwords someplace else. I just can't do it through Chrome itself and when I tried exporting a CSV with a different program and importing that into Keepass (just to double check), the formatting was seven shades of fucked up.
Any appearance mods like Classic Theme Restorer are dead in the water.
Actually you can edit your profiles to edit the css of the chrome. This is pretty much enforced now under webextensions. https://github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx from the guy who does classicthemerestorer
Just restarted for the update. Lots of extensions broke, but a lot of them I haven't needed or used in a while and I'm not that concerned with (when the fuck did I need a Gopher extension?). Not liking the new "new tab" page. Sure, you can disable the bullshit like "Recommended by Pocket", but at the end you get fewer links than you used to, and they're crammed into a really tiny space. I am liking the density options on the UI. That'll make browsing on my tablet a lot better. Haven't noticed a speed difference yet, but I'm on fairly powerful hardware. I normally notice a slowdown after a few days of browsing without a restart, I'll see if that's fixed now.
Tab Mix Plus probably won't work either which sucks.
http://tabmixplus.org/support/troubleshooting/data/legacy-tabmix.html not yet at least. I'm just sticking with waterfox though, since above webextensions is just using unsigned extension support. Means I can just hack my own functions into them as unzipped xpis
Is this worth switching to from Chrome? I've downloaded it and I really like the UI.
Is this worth switching to from Chrome? I've downloaded it and I really like the UI.
Its a major rewrite, so not all FF extensions are going to work. But really only you can answer that question. Just try it for a week.
I've been using it over Chrome for about a month now. I was using it before that on my work laptop but eventually I decided to make the switch over on my home PC and I don't regret it at all. uBlock Origin is already working on it, and you can get a version of LastPass if you use that. It's fast and responsive.
and you can get a version of LastPass if you use that. It's fast and responsive.
Which has actually been able to get my Chrome passwords, albeit with a method about as smooth and easy to use as a sandpaper glory hole. Guess I'll try it without my Reddit inbox addon for now.
I'm just sad that one API is missing, and it just so happens to be the one which the most important of my addons depends on for core functionality. There is a bug about it though, and it seems like they're working on getting that one done soon. Guess I won't be hopping on the amazing speed Firefox bandwagon until FF58. Not that the current speed is any issue to me.
Which has actually been able to get my Chrome passwords, albeit with a method about as smooth and easy to use as a sandpaper glory hole. Guess I'll try it without my Reddit inbox addon for now.
I could port it no problem, but to use it, it has to be signed by mozzila. I cbf setting up an addons account with all that though. If that was not the case, I can do it in around five minutes at the least. I did this for nBox and then they submitted it. https://github.com/Scrxtchy/nbox-everywhereElse Usually it's just a manifest update for Firefox to Edge support. The big difference is that Chrome extensions use an object called 'Chrome' for all extension apis, this is just 'Browser' on ff/edge. Meaning code changes
Downloaded it, set up uBlock Origin and LastPass. Liking it thus far. Think I might stick with it. Chrome has been getting continually more buggy on basically every other computer I've used.
I've really been enjoying it. Plus when I do web development it's been pretty useful.
Yeah, the dev tools seem really nice. Functionally they do everything I need dev tools to do, and in a manner that is just as intuitive as Chrome's dev tools.
Firefox Nightly released a major UI overhaul a few weeks back and I didn't realise how big of an impact it would have but using it again definitely feels a bit better. Feels more modern, as overused as that term is. uBlock Origin, TinEye and Web of Trust all work natively / already supported
Yeah, the dev tools seem really nice. The old Firefox wasn't nearly as intuitive as this new one is. Plus the sheer amount of customization you can do is insane.
Yeah, the dev tools seem really nice. Honestly though, you should be testing on multiple browsers, so there's really no harm in picking a favourite, and using another browser when you have to. Still love Edge's javascript injector, chakra a beast
https://hackademix.net/2017/11/14/double-noscript/ Some good news for those of you that use noscript. WebExtension version will supposedly be released today barring any unforeseen issues.
Isn't Web of Trust super sketchy?
Pretty sure stallman asked for a blacklist on it 👀 in it's glory https://directory.fsf.org/wiki/Blacklist/Web_of_Trust_-_WOT
CHrome has been better than Firefox?
I actually never heard about any issues regarding Web of Trust, and have never had any security issues, but ty for that knowledge. I'ma look up some more info on the otherhand, Greasemoneky and Enhanced Steam work as well
CHrome has been better than Firefox?
for a long time, yes Due to firefox not being multiprocess is a very big factor. One tab crashes and the whole thing shutdown

Just need good devtools so I can fuck around with CSS and shit in a real-time environment :v:
since tree style tabs and session manager aren't supported yet I don't see any reason to update
Isn't Web of Trust super sketchy?
They make money by selling your browser history. Supposedly they scrub personally identifiable information, but we all know how feasible that is when you have a list of essentially free-form strings that you need to process without anyone looking at them first. [editline]14th November 2017[/editline]
since tree style tabs and session manager aren't supported yet I don't see any reason to update
The former actually has been available for a while, here. I'm not sure which add-on you mean by 'Session Manager', but if it's Tab Session Manager then that's available too.
