People are pissed about 'Star Wars Battlefront II' loot boxes
Paid lootboxes have no place in full price games, not even for cosmetics.
since apparently their DLC will be free it would be way better to have cosmetics be their microtransactions/loot boxes/whatever you wanna call it. youre able to play on an even ground with other people without having to grind your ass off, get actual gameplay/content DLC for free, and cosmetics only matter if you care about how you look and doesnt affect the gameplay at all.
I mean I'm ok with microtransactions, but not in every.... fucking.... game.
The thing is, if you're ok with microtransactions, then they are going to do it in every game.
Not just you, but people in general. If a certain business model becomes popular (against all that is good in this world) then unfortunately the game developers/people will - likely and happily - continue to practice these business models.
only buy $60 games from cdpr
I don't at all condone Micro transactions, but I am interested in seeing why people hate it so much, seems like a good discussion point.
Those of you that have said "I won't buy the game" or "it is ruined" etc, what is your reasoning behind this?
Do you play it competitively? or are you just assuming that you will come across a lot of users that have bought Loot Creates to win?
Whilst I dislike MTs, I've seen multiple threads for different games that people have said it is ruined because of Loot Crates etc. Yet I almost never notice, or care enough when someone kills me in an MP game if they have different weapons / gadgets / spells / What ever the crap the game is selling via Loot Crates.
Do people actually notice that much?

Because the games you play are fairly balanced, this has 100% damage reduction star cards behind an rng paywall or rng progression that could take you hundreds of lootboxes to get.
I don't know if the weapons are also locked behind crates or only available to buy with the in-game currency that you also earn from fucking lootbox rng, it's essentially locking you out of content that you paid for.
Honestly I wouldn't care at all if the boxes were just cosmetic - that's how every other popular MP shooter does it - it's not required. In BF2 the lootboxes ARE the progression system, which is completely asinine for a full-price game.

It feeds on people's gambling habits and/or lack of patience & desire to have the best gear. The practice is underhanded and shady and doesn't deserve to take advantage of (usually) children with less self control than most people, as well as exacerbate underlying issues people may have.
Some games do it right, Killing Floor 2 comes to mind (though it still exploits the same aspects) but at least they're slightly more tasteful about it & fund future updates instead of just giving the company more money.
Triple A gaming has become such an embarassment. From dumbing down the most enjoyable parts of the game and not providing a proper experience, to trying to monetize every since inch of the game.
Meanwhile Hat in Time is the best game I played this year. And I played a lot of games this year.

someone can spend money right off the bat as soon as the game launches, get a bunch of OP shit and roll other people that didnt spend money in microtransactions, and if they want any of that shit they either have to grind for it like crazy and god knows how long that will take, or dump money on it just like the first guy. how is that in any way fair or good for the game?

Within the lootcrate system you can obtain starcards, one card for example is damage resistance for boba fett while his jett packing around. You can reach 100% resistance with this character through the create system. Note, you do need to get the card I believe four or five times to reach 100%, so you build up over time i.e 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% then finally 100%.
Obviously youre not going to get this card in every create. However, this is just going to encourage people to purchase a multitude of these creates, and put regular players that choose not to pay at a disavantage.

That card isn't while jet-packing around, it's while using one of his abilities (rocket barrage) which has a long cooldown while you're in the air. It's really not as big as you imply.
Also you can upgrade that card using points you earn in-game, like most lootcrate cards.
Why are people still paying for these "AAA" games? I don't remember last time I did.

If I remember right you could do that since Battlefield 3 with the shortcut bundles.
We need another videogame crash imo.
They could've just copypasted Battlefield 1's system, it's perfectly fine.

My mistake.

ive never played any dice game except bad company 2 so i have no idea, but i would still think its just as not ok now as it was not ok for that game. maybe it also just hurts more since people love battlefront as a thing (myself included)
If I remember right you could do that since Battlefield 3 with the shortcut bundles.
... but shortcut packs just give you access to the weapons or gadgets of a certain class, usually which are sidegrades, not flat stat boosts that make you do double damage when combined at max rank
If I remember right you could do that since Battlefield 3 with the shortcut bundles.
I don't recall any imbalance issues in BF3 onwards, where paying additional money for better weapons/stuff had anything to do with it?
Too fucking bad that we arent given a choice and have to put up with both this garbage AND DLC!
But the DLC for BF2 is free
I seem to be the only one that's okay with this. I'd rather have this than some shitty season pass. I'll hold my judgement as to wether this loot boxes system is shit when the full game launches because as of right now it seems fine based on the leaks.
You've already been conditioned to think it's necessary to do some scummy shit, Rainbow Six: Siege has free maps and it sustains itself with season pass/cosmetic DLC. This is Ubisoft too for fucks sake.
Conditioned? This is the first game I’ve played with this kind of system.
[editline]10th October 2017[/editline]
I’m not passing judgement until the final game is out with accurate metrics.
What incompetent entity at EA/DICE decided it would be best to leave the unfinished, unrepresentative version of the progression system that is bound to attract controversy and criticism in the public beta?
The beta doesn’t have all the content that will be in at launch, so they couldn’t have the boxes be representative of launch drops or players would be getting things they can’t use.
[editline]10th October 2017[/editline]
This image is from a stream a couple weeks before the beta, if it is accurate, it looks like you can unlock weapons via level up. So there is normal progression as well

Wink once if you are paid to promote this game
Wink once if you are paid to promote this game
I’ve never received money to do anything with this game.
I just think people are reacting too early.
We don’t know how it’s going to work at launch, and shouldn’t judge it based off a beta where nothing is final.
judge the final/launch product.
I’d rather this then paid DLC splitting up the community
You do realize this is going to divide the community far more severely, right? I wouldnt put it past EA to balance the final game in such a way that the unlocks are ridiculously powerful and that someone without them is pretty much fucked. Such a move would end up being a positive feedback loop of shit, too, as it will get harder and harder and more and more tedious to grind the boxes the more people get those upgrades, causing players to buy them, worsening game balance and rewarding EA's bullshit.
I hope I'm wrong but I dont feel like holding my breath that they won't do it.

Its EA. Trusting EA not to rip you off is like trusting gasoline vapors to not ignite around open flame.
I said this in another place so I'm just going to paraphrase myself here. This system is trash. It's blatantly designed to get you to pay more.
It's like this. Imagine if a casino lets you spin a slot machine 5 free times every hour. You spin it for 3 hours straight. On the 4th hour, you will spin it only 3 times tho. One the 5th hour you only get to spin it once. And during all this time you have this sign right next to you with big bolded letters "GET 1 MORE SPIN FOR ONLY $1.99"
Oh and look, other people are getting neat rewards from their slot machines and some of them are even paying for extra spins an hour. You wouldnt want to fall back now wouldnt you?

Judging something before it comes out makes no logical sense
Judging something before it comes out makes no logical sense
Trusting EA makes no logical sense, especially considering their track record over the last decade.
Judging something before it comes out makes no logical sense
Trusting sharks not to eat you alive after they've already eaten ten other people is way more illogical.
