Have you ever played a DICE game.

Complacency is what leads to those measures becoming worse and worse.
Have you ever played a DICE game.
IIRC Dice has been outsourcing their single player campaigns after Battlefield 4.
There's still the issue that the multiplayer in a game series built around multiplayer is bogged down with the kind of mobile game BS in a $60 game.
It's not like this game is going to be active on PC in a month after launch. The rampant cheaters ruin it. Hell the cheaters and creators of the hacks they use openly post about it in the BF subreddit. They've never been banned, never will, and I expect the same thing is going to happen, they were running around in the beta in the first 3 hours
There's a reason the peak players in BF1 are under 3k while PS and Xbox still have 12k
Starcard rarity is stupid, but I can deal with that. But they shouldn't be RNG in lootboxes you can buy with cash are you kidding me? Just spent $80 on a game but I'm getting thrashed by some kid who spent $80 and another $80 to get all the starcards so all his cooldowns are half of what everyone else's is let's watch him steam roll until everyone catches up. The difference between a skill without a card and with a gold is pretty substantial, too. 10 second duration goes to 16 seconds, or in a bomber you can repair 15% of your health, or with the gold version, 100%, It's fuckin wank
Put cosmetics in your crates, offer progression through gameplay, not a pseudo slot machine

its this kind of attitude that has helped turn the industry into the cash-grab cesspit that it is today

A shining example of the complacent mindset that got us here.

Jim also made a pretty good video regarding this subject. Not just about Battlefront but the scam scheme in general.
Literally had to use this less than 3 hours after watching it earlier today because some random idiot at my local college was spewing the canned responses (verbatim) mentioned by Jim.
You should at least buy me dinner first before you fuck me this hard, EA.
The beta version of crates and the launch version of crates are completely different. There's proof that each class will get a crate so it's less RNG.
It'll look like they did something, but the system is already different. And they'll just say they listened to us.
That all being said, I don't really care (It's not a good business practice either way, but I don't mind). The difference in stats for each skill is so minimal that if you're good at the game it doesn't matter.
you can farm any star card you want to level 3 in like a day of play anyway

It's not minimal. The sentry skill for heavies goes from 10 second duration to 16. The bomber repair ability is 15% health repaired at the first tier, and at max is 100%, Another that reduces all cool downs to 70%
And even if it were minimal, it's still bullshit to allow real money to give an in-game advantage at all
This Reddit thread is keep a list of the negative press around this

I wonder how long until DICE responds.
I don't see a point in arguing with this dumb as fuck logic when you're already at the point where you're arguing semantics.
If you think I'm pedantic for seeing a difference between a physical object with minimal value and a lootbox with intrinsically valueless non-physical data, that's fine, but I'm still right and you still don't have a point.
Oh man, "your logic is dumb and you don't have a point". You surely did manage to refute my argument.
Wait, no, you didn't. You're also treating digital items as if they are not legitimate items, which is absolutely bizarre in this day and age, while being incredibly dismissive over the fact that you seem to think that card-stock has a meaningful intrinsic value.
Please explain to me how there is any meaningful differentiation between a collectible piece of card-stock and a collectible skin in a game. Furthermore, explain to me how the latter is gambling whereas the former is not. I completely fail to see how this is any different from Pokemon cards.
Not QUITE the same thing, but Ashens recently did a Star Wars unboxing... It included a fucking framed replica of a movie ticket stub :v:

a prediction from reddit:
Here's what will happen:
EA already knew it would go down like this. They knew from the getgo people wouldn't like these kind of RNG progression crates. So they release a worse version of them during the open beta.
Why? It's a tactic. Right now, everyone is upset. What will happen next is that EA/Dice will come out with a "We heard you!" statement and they will "fix" the loot crates by making them slightly less RNG and pay-to-win before launch.
This will then end in tons of people going "Alright, they actually listened, time to preorder again!". People will feel like they got a compromise, it's like a small victory in their minds and it makes them forget about the initial goal of the company to begin with (moving over to loot crate progression). It wouldn't be the first time a company did something like this. Starting off with something in a worse state and then slightly improving it leaves everyone with a better taste in their mouths and they are more willing to then ignore the fact that those RNG crates in this case are in the game to begin with.
People underestimate the intelligence of the people at work there, they know how to manipulate the "general sentiment" around their games and additions like these, that are not liked by most but will make them lots of money. Just watch and see. We'll soon hear from them.

Hopefully people see through it, it's a sham response just like 2K's "look we made hairstyles cheaper in NBA 2K18!" bullshit.
I think we're due for another crash.
Seems about that time.
Something to also consider is the fact that DICE has been getting flamed for segregating the communities by releasing paid DLC with exclusive maps. Making them free to maintain community integrity but offsetting costs by introducing lootcrates seems to be the thing going on here.
It's honestly about as sensible a compromise as it can be, considering you're not even locked behind a paywall a la Valve crate keys. To my understanding, you get crates for free by just playing the game, with the option to buy them for faster progression.

How about NOT DLC'ing multiplayer maps in the first place, but considering them vital to keeping multiplayer alive in the first place instead of letting it fizzle out, while also not indulging in the petty cashgrabs known as lootboxes.
"Oh but server cost", well release dedicated server files then.

Sure buddy, we'll give you rent-a-server, where you can't ban anybody, set admins, or really anything!
Actually the dedicated server system was really sad, since in BF3 it seemed like DICE were actually interested in trying to bring proper dedicated servers to console. But then they began to head in the other direction of gutting their capabilities entirely, and then to basically killing them.

The problem is that there are people that DO buy the DLC and loot-boxes. This encourages the developers to further gimp the experience for those that don't.
The only way for this to really stop is for people who don't buy DLC to just not buy the game.

I theorized something like this during the first Overwatch update. Summer items were not purchasable for currency, and you could only find them in crates. "Following" the outcry, items from special events were made purchasable, although they costed more than normal items.
Of course that time it was just cosmetic stuff nobody should give a crap about, but I can believe it being somewhat widespread practice, even outside of loot boxes.
Why not get the ESRB to make lootcrates an automatic AO rating? If they'd listen, that is.
Hopefully people see through it, it's a sham response just like 2K's "look we made hairstyles cheaper in NBA 2K18!" bullshit.
Considering how consumers love to Forgive & Forget every time EA markets a 'shiny' new game and get hyped on that alone?
Not gonna happen.
Why not get the ESRB to make lootcrates an automatic AO rating? If they'd listen, that is.
In an ideal world, non-f2p titles would be banned from doing any form of lootcrates at all.
Daily reminder that For Honor had a similar "But you can get items with in-game currency!" system but the prices were so massively inflated you'd have to play nonstop for 2.5 YEARS to unlock everything without paying extra.
For Honor was a fucking mistake. Great concept with Ubisofts execution.
Don’t forget that they recently fixed the multiplayer for classic Battlefront 2! Just play that again, it’s a far better game.
I couldn’t connect to a server. Maybe they’ll get around to fixing it.
EA has posted about beta feedback and Crates/StarCards
https://www.ea.com/games/starwars/battlefront/battlefront-2/news/thank-you-beta
It sounds like to me, that you can only upgrade starcards when you hit a certain level.
So if someone were the buy the game, drop $100 on crates they wouldn't be able to use the upgraded cards until they actually played the game and reached a certain rank.
It is still P2W, but they actually have to earn the win. They can't just drop in day one and be strongest player out there.

Well it certainly wasn't like that in the beta, I dropped the highest rarity card for Heavy or something and started using it right away.

Make it really bad, release a "fix" that only makes it somewhat bad, and announce it as a good fix.

The Beta was only 10 levels, and they aren't going lock them behind levels if they want people to test them.

By that logic, what’s the point in even trying to improve upon the loot crate system? Whatever they do wont be enough. I know for a fact they are trying
