The next Pokémon movie retcons the first season of the show
The series ended with XYZ. Sun and Moon anime is somewhat funny but 90% filler garbage with a terrible art style to go with it.
It's like the directors of the show were sick of it being decent
sun & moon is the first time the series has had consistently good and inventive animation
This makes perfect sense to me. Considering their short mini-series that adapted the manga to anime was such a hit it only makes sense to modernize the first season in some way as a means to bring Pokemon in a full circle. Before the only Pokemon any can confirm not being Gen 1 was Ho-Oh so Kanto seems extremely closed off at this point. Adding in various generations to Kanto helps connect the worlds because lets face it, Pokemon, like real life animals, migrate.
I still have a dream of recreating the first episode in a Disney style of animation, is that crazy?
Way too many people getting riled up over this movie for nothing. It's just a non canon "what if" re-imagining of the first season with a few twists and some of the newer Pokemon thrown in.
Yeah sure it kinda sucks that Brock and Misty aren't returning, but I don't feel the movie deserves to be bashed so hard because of it. I think it's a neat concept and I'm rather looking forward to it actually.
Who watches these pokemon films and shows? Is it just a lot of kids? I tried rewatching the very first few seasons cause I loved it as a kid and it was just painful how terrible they actually are. Are there a lot of people who follow the pokemon anime?

I've been following the anime for a while. In my opinion, most of the 6th generation was great, and the 7th one is showing a lot of promise.
Why do people still care about Pokemon? Let the mediocre franchise die
The first season is the childhood of literally everyone in the 90s. The Ash/Brock/Misty trio might as well be family for some people. They are just that iconic
You can't switch them for no good reason. You can't replace them

The good (?) news is that both characters, and some other fan favorites, make an appearance during the end credits.
I take it as an alternate universe, a plot twist were Brock and Misty doesn't decide to follow Ash. The question now is what are they going to do to put enough weight on the new characters to fill that space. I'm not going to judge the entire movie before watching it but I'm curious to know how the replacements are going to be handled.
Brock would be a complete stranger appearing for some seconds as a gym leader or a breeder and Misty could probably appear as another trainer on the road or a gym leader aspirant bullied by her sisters.
Adding them only in the credits would be a huge bad joke for many people, though.

Because a lot of people still enjoy the game and the anime is actually much better now compared to BW.

Yes because the first season of the anime was a massive hit and its target audience was young enough to easily carry the show for about 4 seasons. The fact that it's pretty unappealing to an adult audience just means that people will be invested for different reasons. It's like the early bad seasons of the Simpsons or Spongebob.

"Yeah guys I know this geyser is literally gushing money 24/7 but we should stop it. We can't survive under the weight of all the yachts we keep buying."

The early seasons of SpongeBob are good. I recently rewatched a handful of episodes after not watching it for about a decade and was able to enjoy it.

What are you saying? The first Simpsons and Spongebob seasons were the best.

I don't know my nephew loves Pokémon! I think you're forgetting that Pokémon is aimed towards kids, it's just a bonus that the games are enjoyable for all ages.
What are you saying? The first Simpsons and Spongebob seasons were the best.
Series 1 of the Simpsons was still pretty cheap, animation wise. You could tell it was a spin off from the Tracy Ullman Show.

Have you seen the first season of The Simpsons. It has not aged well. And I'm not just talking about the animation.
I think i read somewhere that they reconned how Charmelon is now loyal to Ash instead of going typical teenager well until Ash proved his worth to Charazard.
That is more unacceptable that anything else to me.

Isn't this movie non-canon though?

lol, the games fucking sell over 15 million copies with each edition.
Problem here is this isn't meant to cater to older fans. I've met many kids who don't even know the original 151 outside of Pikachu and Charizard, maybe.
There are only 151 Pokemon, anyways.

Hey.
No.

Of course it was cheap in it's first season, they had no idea it was going to be the success it is today
There are only 151 Pokemon, anyways.
There's 150, and more to see
