I guess Dead Space is never getting proper closure. :tableflip:
Fuck everything, man.
EA has dragged every good developer under it's flag into the gutter. I'm expecting them to destroy Respawn at some point too
Respawn is privately owned and independent from EA. They can't just guillotine them.
EA has dragged every good developer under it's flag into the gutter. I'm expecting them to destroy Respawn at some point too
Respawn is not owned by EA though. EA only handles marketing / publishing.
So I'm guessing this means deadspace 4 is officially dead then? RIP
Well the game is done both plot-wise and quality-wise, I personally never hoped for another installation.
Well, it was bound to happen. They lost alot of talent after Dead Space 1. Dead Space 2 honestly was their last hurrah as those games didn't make enough in EA's eyes.
It's even worse for the unannounced Star Wars game, because the official statement reads something like: "It was going to be a single-player story focused game, but we're updating it to include current bullshit like loot boxes and games as a service."
As long as EA holds the exclusive right to Star Wars games I truly believe we will never see another great Star Wars story the likes of KOTOR & KOTOR 2 ever again. I love the Star Wars IP, but its games are all pretty much write offs for me now.
I don't know how anyone can sell out to EA and not see this coming. The second you drop from being the absolute best of the best, even if you go down to just "okay" sales, any resources given to you are yanked and put into something more profitable, and you're out a job and the studio you put years' of effort into building.
By the time EA developed a reputation for driving studios into the ground it was already the largest 3rd party publisher in the industry.
So I'm guessing this means deadspace 4 is officially dead then? RIP
After Dead Space 3 that seems like a reprieve rather than a thing to mourn. Visceral has been a shadow of their former selves ever since EA turned their best franchise into a microtransaction filled mess.

To be fair, Bioware hasn't had a very good track record with story driven games recently.
Also SWTOR is pretty fun.

I had forgotten they were the team behind Agent Under Fire.
They did that kickass Lord of the Rings action game and The Third Age? Damn man this is harder on me than I thought.
i honestly don't know how EA keeps the lights on, i haven't seen anything from them in at least a decade that i wanted to buy and actually got released
They still make truckloads of money from FIFA and Madden, and Sims still does quite well so far as I know. I'm sure they also made a handsome profit from Battlefield and Battlefront, and will continue to do so for Battlefront II this year.
EA may kill a lot of beloved franchises/studios, but it doesn't surprise me in the least that they're financially above water.

The last decent star wars game to come out was like Jedi Outcast JA or Republic Commando. The Star Wars IP wasn't doing well even under Lucas Arts' supervision.

This is pretty heartwarming to see given what's happened, lots of game developers offering now ex-Visceral employees jobs, or at least letting them know they're hiring.

wow, i didn't realise they were behind Future Cop: LAPD, that game was my childhood. great gameplay (even if the splitscreen was a bit wonky), catchy as hell soundtrack and Precinct Assault

this game deserved to do better
visceral deserved better
EA's cycle of aquiring developers in a nutshell. Sucking them out, then leaving them to rot once they stop being profitable.
It’s like they can’t stop falling down a stair case because they’re too stupid to tie their shoes, seriously fuck EA
Holy fuck they did all those awesome PS2 era bond games? I feel sad as hell now.
Its such a fucking shame because if you squint hard enough you can just about see past the bullshit in DS3 and still see that the talent is still there.

Thanks to the mouse being greedy and "renting" the rights to highest bidder.
Rest in Peace Visceral Games, you deserved better.
Oh man I didn't know Visceral made Nascar Rumble. That was my first ever video game, period. Before I even had a memory card for the Playstation.

EA Sports, probably. That seems like just about the safest video game franchise that you could possibly create.
Do these count as license titles due to the player names involved? [editline]edit[/editline] Actually scratch that. These games have the real-life sports orgs as title.

This is a lot more unfortunate than just the employees losing their jobs, because whenever a AAA studio shuts down it floods the industry with well-experienced talent and prevents new talent from getting in. It's just part of the cycle of the industry, but EA is one of the major contributors to this. It also hits a nerve with me specifically because it seemed like my graduating class in college had less success with people getting into the industry because we graduated a year after THQ died and its studios were gutted. This obviously wouldn't be the only reason (specific faculty members being burned out certainly did wonders for us) but it definitely didn't help anyone's chances when there was a huge number of experienced artists and designers that were suddenly available and which could do twice the work at twice the quality of graduates. A problem that stems from this, though, is that any possible innovation that these students may have learned is now locked out of the industry by people doing the same old stuff.
It's stuff like this that turns me away from AAA, in both job prospects as well as interest in their games.
Activision and now this? Da fucks going on?!
Whoa EA shut down Activision too? Damn... RIP. Hopefully Bobby Kotick can get back up on his feet after this.

rip dead space :saddowns:
I actually really enjoyed Dead Space 3 with coop
I actually really enjoyed Dead Space 3 with coop
i hate to say what literally everyone and their grandma says whenever someone says this: coop can make anything fun.
but its indeniable the game was a huge downfall for the series

Any hopes for a solid, single-player experience without all this added bullshit is a pipe dream. You'll find what we're looking for in the indie market now.
On that note, it's a very good time to be an indie dev.
