EA cannibalizing yet another studio, what a surprise
Because of their own fault.
They gutted Dead Space in search of the most profit, backfiring horribly.
And this pisses me off a lot.
It was a fantastic franchise. The first and the second game are amazing.
wow, i didn't realise they were behind Future Cop: LAPD, that game was my childhood. great gameplay (even if the splitscreen was a bit wonky), catchy as hell soundtrack and Precinct Assault

this game deserved to do better
visceral deserved better
This game was my life as a kid. CO-OP battles with my sister and playing the campaign missions over and over.
Ah what the fuck, are you kidding me?
Fuck you EA, jesus christ there goes any chance of another good dead space.
Its such a fucking shame because if you squint hard enough you can just about see past the bullshit in DS3 and still see that the talent is still there.
DS3 lost my purchase because of EA's fucking buisness model and the fact I did'nt want to support that bullshit, not because I did not like DS3 or Viscereal. Only reason I own DS3 now is because of a free humble bundle key giveway I got on here funnily enough.
With that said, as far as im concerned you don't even have to squint to see the talent, it was / is a legitimately good game, maybe not as good as 2 was, but to me thats because 2 set the bar Soooooooooo high.
It's well made, Co-Op was a blast, the free roam space section was incredible, the ice planet was gorgeous, I loved crafting my own weapons (universal ammo was a kick in the balls) and they even manged to rekindle some of the scare factor DS2 had (though Necromorphs don't scare me), hell even the microtransactions I was / am dead against did not impact my enjoyment of the game at all, it wasnt a grind nor did the game become too difficult either, (DLC saved for the ending did fuck me off though).
All EA studios are on borrowed time.
aside from DICE which seems to be EA's future plan. You never hear them say DICE though, it's always EA DICE
After the disaster that was Dead Space 3, maybe it's for the best.
Fuck EA.
If the claims made here are true, I would not hesitate to blame EA for forcing too great of a compromise of quality and direction for sales. Ultimately, this backfired both ways, successfully killing another IP.
I don't know how anyone can sell out to EA and not see this coming. The second you drop from being the absolute best of the best, even if you go down to just "okay" sales, any resources given to you are yanked and put into something more profitable, and you're out a job and the studio you put years' of effort into building.
Usually the reason to sell a company is to get money out of it. I don't think that the decision makers care much about the studio after they've sold it. And if they do, they probably wipe away their tears with fat stacks of money.
Doesn't this really mean the dev's themselves are now free from EA's shackles, or is there some sort of "fuck you" clause that keeps them from making games for several years?
Really, what's going to stop them from moving onto greener pastures?
Dead Space was one of the best games from last generation. It's definitely up there in my favourites of all time. Such a shame, the developers deserved better than to have EA fuck up the third installment by pushing their shitty money making agenda and to then close the studio.
i hate to say what literally everyone and their grandma says whenever someone says this: coop can make anything fun.
It really can't. There's plenty of shitty dull coop games. It can make decent games shine, but it won't make trash suddenly appetizing.
It really can't. There's plenty of shitty dull coop games. It can make decent games shine, but it won't make trash suddenly appetizing.
i said it "can" not that it "will"
a below average thirdperson shooter can easily be made into an average co-op game depending on certain mechanics that are added in to compliment the co-op aspect. doesn't make the base game any less average.

Dead space 3 is a fun coop game. Pay a buck and play with it a friend.

EA owns all their previous IPs, and it's really hard to start up a game studio from scratch. There's a lot of infrastructure that EA was paying for that they probably just can't afford on their own.
so who's next? Bioware?
I don’t care what anyone says about DS3, I felt it was a good addition (poorly executed, but good) to the series and the micro transactions made no difference in gameplay because they weren’t even remotely necessary.
Goodnight Deadspace you sweet prince, I hope they remaster you at some point.
so who's next? Bioware?
if there was any dev studio that should be dissolved by EA, it's bioware. They are far past their prime.
EA gutted them a long time ago and only just now finished fucking with the corpse.
so who's next? Bioware?
I'm betting you they have one last chance with that Destiny like game 'Anthem' since they fucked up pretty bad with Andromeda and if that doesn't do well curtains for them.
I'm betting you they have one last chance with that Destiny like game 'Anthem' since they fucked up pretty bad with Andromeda and if that doesn't do well curtains for them.
Bioware is 3 studios spread over north america right now. Last I checked The Old Republic is doing fine and is actually generating a profit, Bioware Austin handles that so they're fine. Bioware Edmonton is the classic Bioware that developed Mass Effect and Dragon Age, they haven't quite fucked up yet. Bioware Montreal is the one that developed Andromeda and they don't technically exist anymore because they got merged with another studio.
So I doubt Bioware is going anywhere just yet.
I still can't understand how EA's still in business, like they waste so much money on projects that they pull the plug on then nuke the studio, they just seem like they hemerage cash, and as far as a share of the industry, EA isn't even a large part of the multi billion dollar industry anymore, they just seem like this bizzare relic from the early 2000's and are almost certainly responsible for the near death of PC gaming around that time as well.
So I'm guessing this means deadspace 4 is officially dead then? RIP
maybe not, I mean Command and Conquer games kept getting made after Westwood was buried
I'm betting you they have one last chance with that Destiny like game 'Anthem' since they fucked up pretty bad with Andromeda and if that doesn't do well curtains for them.
Andromeda was done by a separate team which has already gone under due to that game being a disappointing mess.
i said it "can" not that it "will"
Sure, and I'm saying it outright can't. It can only make games with some sort of substance better, terrible games are just going to remain terrible, no matter how many friends you drag into it.
a below average thirdperson shooter can easily be made into an average co-op game depending on certain mechanics that are added in to compliment the co-op aspect. doesn't make the base game any less average.
That doesn't make it fun though. If I start playing Resident Evil 6, it's a dull, awful experience. If I grab a friend and try and play it with them, it's almost worse because now I feel more of an obligation to not go "eh, I quit, this isn't fun" without a backup game to play.
Meanwhile if I play Resident Evil 5, I could do a new runthrough and enjoy it even alone, but if I grab a friend, I could play that shit all day because it's an already well-made game and the co-op only makes it better because instead of splitting shit with an AI, you're juggling resources with a real person and you can dedicate roles and shit.
I think dead space ended where it needed to end tbh without hitting ridiculous levels of insanity that it had already reached(which was awesome in a way) or without becoming a new genre entirely
[sp]like at the end you're literally using spiral energy to turn markers into drills that you shoot at the moon to destroy it on a floating pad, and then it turns out there are tons more of these things, so what would have to happen is this times eleven[/sp]
I feel like visceral deserves better though :c
That's a damn shame, those guys made some good games. Like Dante's Inferno and Future Cop L.A.P.D.
I'm betting you they have one last chance with that Destiny like game 'Anthem' since they fucked up pretty bad with Andromeda and if that doesn't do well curtains for them.
The studio that made andromeda was Bioware in name only and that ones already dead and buried.

Because Madden and FIFA have an infamously complacent consumer base and Star Wars isn't much better in that regard.
i honestly don't know how EA keeps the lights on, i haven't seen anything from them in at least a decade that i wanted to buy and actually got released
BF3, BF4 and BF1 were all pretty great (IMO), same with Battlefront 1.
