even bellingham, near the canadian border, is covered in a thick layer of smoke, everyone has been coughing and the sky looks especially apocalyptic today
The blood red setting sun looks amazing but this falling ash and smoke is irritating.
The idiots who were throwing the m80s deserve serious time behind bars
At the very least they need to serve a lot of community service that's directly related to the fallout from the fire and they need to see exactly what their stupidity resulted in. Especially if the fire actually ends up destroying homes.
Readily accessible fireworks are a fucking plague

Stupid people are a plague.
This was my car when I left for work.

I washed it on Sunday.

The M80s the kid was supposedly throwing are actually illegal here anyways. They're legal in Washington though which is just across the river.
The suspect is a 15yo from Vancouver, police are asking for any more info or anyone that saw the kid

M80s are illegal to purchase or possess here in Washington as well.
However, as that PDF states, they're legal to purchase on tribal lands.
So most people just go to their nearest reservation to buy them, and then leave the area and set them off wherever.
Most sane people do it somewhere safe, though. Not near fucking woodlands in a dry summer.
I live in washington and we're surrounded by the fires basically. It's raining ash and the moon turns blood red at night I feel like Dagoth Ur could show up any second
it probably wouldnt be so bad if it werent like nine billion degrees on top of everything

I think I actually knew that now that you mention it but I buy fireworks so rarely anymore that I completely forgot about it.

From what I've heard (keep in mind this is secondhand information though) the kid was apparently supposedly throwing them at a bald eagle. However that seems kinda unlikely, even if bald eagles are reasonably common in the area, so that's probably not actually true.
I can look directly at the sun right now it's so blocked out by the smoke. It's blood red.

I did that right after leaving from work today too. It was weird to be able to look at it so soon after seeing the eclipse in totality just two weeks ago. It's also weird for it to be so dark so early in the evening and late in the mornings at this time of year.

it was like that a month ago when the vancouver fires were raging and it was kinda scary to see it again today

From 3000 acres yesterday morning to almost 31k today. Is that like a 1000% increase?

I grew up 30 minutes north of Portland. The gorge was a wonderful place to hike, breathtakingly beautiful. My friends and I would go hiking pretty much every other weekend over this last summer, never ran out of new places to go to.
Everyone in the Portland/Vancouver area is devastated. I moved off to college, but my social media is full of pictures of the gorge from old high school friends.

On another note, I almost went home for the labor day weekend, I'm about 6 1/2 hours drive away. I have to go straight through the gorge and if I had gone home I wouldn't have been able to make it back to school because of this.
apparently multnomah falls survived the blaze

To be honest it looks barely anything burned, just looks smokey and there isn't any sunshine on it. I've been there when it's been foggy and it looks the same.
