i don't get how people are saying it's the worst movie of 2017 when THE EMOJI MOVIE exists.
Or The Book of Henry.
Although that one at least has entertainment value in how much of a nonsensical trainwreck it is.
I don't think its as bad as the meta critic score suggests tbh, it was an alright movie that started out pretty interesting but it just kinda fell flat half way through.
Will Smith and Joel Edgerton are the best things about the movie. There really wasn't enough world building for the fantasy setting and the movie's attempt at making commentary on racial inequality falls flat because the orc stand-ins for black people are just as barbaric and fucked up as everyone thought they were. So what the fuck are we supposed to take away from that?
where did this rape story come from?
I’ve been hearing about this too
Okay so heres what we got
We got a few random folks calling Max a scumbag today after his movie was announced on Twitter. Some have worked in the TV/entertainment industry
However, there's a video about something like that in a previous video called "It's fun to be famous!" on Max Landis' channel where the girl who started this whole thing commented on it. Said comment is the top comment right now, but the videos been around for years so who knows how long it's been.
Coincidentally, it's about him talking about a girl who faked a story that Max Landis slapped her ass at comic con in 2014, while Landis was at a party with her.

There's a good quote about this whole thing at the end of the video.

thanks on the info.
I remember also a video max landis did were he admitted he had a problem being emotionally abusive in that he'll be interested in someone but would push them away when they became interested back. Like yo-yo with emotions or something.
Edit:
seemed to be a follow up video on his preception

Seems like a dude whose done some bad shit in the past, and his way of dealing with it is to desensitize and disassociate himself with it as much as possible. Yeesh.
I wonder how RLM will feel about this since they're friends with him? Especially considering every video they've posted post-weinstein has had some joke about how horrible the movie industry is about this sorta thing.
I love Christmas... time for joy and bonding with my family and friends.

fucking rapist piece of shit according to uhhhhh let's just check uhh yeah that's about Most Of The Population Of Los Angeles so uhhh fuck,
whole population? i've seen like 3 people accuse him without any real proof or evidence.

MMh, I want to uncover a hollywood rapist. Am I going to do a statement like everybody has done before? No, I'm just going to make a passive aggressive snip at Netflix
I watched it last night and I enjoyed it, it wasn't anything amazing but I really liked the visuals and I loved how DnD it was. But plot wise it felt more like a couple of episodes of a series rather than a standalone film
Max Landis is a thousand times better at being an internet personality with spicy opinions than a screenwriter.
Or maybe his screenplays just get made into shit movies by incompetent filmmakers like he always wants to claim. The guy seems to have a bit of an ego. He also makes a lot of tweets/videos giving general success tips on for creative people trying to make it in the industry and it's just kind of odd considering his dad is John Landis.
Didn't know about any of the rapey stuff until this thread though. Messed up if true.
the movie's a 7/10. watchable, entertaining, some not so good parts, and a lot of potential for more.
the writing is horrible and its easy to skip that because the make up and other departments are very well made.
Bad movie, dont feel bad for the guy since he made like 7 millions alone on that script.
it's funny because republicans would be the last people who would want a film like that passed into law

Watching this, 5 minutes in and Will Smith quips about Fairy lives not mattering today.
Oh, this is gonna be bad.
EDIT: Okay, Jakoby calling Hammer Smashed Face by Cannibal Corpse one of the greatest love songs ever written is pretty funny.
has max landis every made anything that wasn't shit besides that Wrestling video
Has anyone got a link to the original script? I was looking forward to giving this a shot but it seems to have turned out as a disappointment.
Okay, so I just watched it and while it's just kind of meh for the most part, the ending is one of the most bullshit things I've ever seen.
I thought it was good, some parts about the film are really bad and the dialogue was just terrible in some parts but it made up for it with the world's setting, some of the lore, the make up/effects and the two main characters chemistry together. (Joel's character being main highlight of the film for me.)
I've heard a sequel has been ordered by Netflix, here's hoping they get a better writer in there for the next one and Ayer stays on to direct.
Can't confirm, but this seems to be the original
apparently the script was re-written by ayer after max wrote it so his initial script might've been substantially different. i feel bad for him if that's the case
Lmao, this is exactly the kind of shit that authors of script writing books write about. I have read two books about script writing as I intend to go into it. In both the author says that things like this happen all the time in the movie industry and it's awful.
Basically it goes like this: Majority of writers want to tell a great story. But the one who gets to choose if a movie gets made is mostly the producer of a studio. He reads like 100 scripts per day. But when he finds one that sounds promising, the script gets rewritten because he wants it to be rewritten. And often without reason. Often the producer wants to be a part of the process for no reason to claim that he contributed to the process. And in 9/10 cases, as the author claims, the final script is worse than before. Writers apparently call it "Writer's hell" because you can't just argue against the producer. You try to compromise and find the least amount of damage to be done to the script. Producers will insist to put in things from other popular movies, even if they don't work. They will change things that will make the script and thus the movie worse. They can also just kick you off from the script and get somebody else to it. Or never calling you back. And etc. The situation is horrible for writers in Hollywood.
If you ever wondered why so many movies nowadays "feel" and "look" the same, it's because of these people. Currently superhero movies are the big thing because they are so successful, and these people will look into what makes them successful without ever truly grasping it. And they will try to insert those things into movie scripts that don't need them. This is partially why we get so many badly written movies nowadays. Even in bigger titles.

the death of hollywood can't come quickly enough
Watched it last night and it was a decent movie. I really like the concept but the execution is lacking.
the death of hollywood can't come quickly enough
The thing is... that's how it has always been. Producers are trend followers. They have always been. 50 years ago, writers had better protection though. But producers always follow trends and at the moment it's superhero movies.
Remember Harry Potter and its massive success? It spawned so many teenager book adaptations because producers saw the success of that series. Percy Jackson, Twilight, Divergent, Maze Runner, Hunger Games, etc. That was the big thing until superhero movies arrived.
Just watched Bright. Anyone who calls this the worst movie of the year is dumb. Its a well made movie and I liked the characters. Yeah sure its not perfect and has some wierd shit but the world is pretty cool. This is ridiculously overblown
I feel like it's unfair to attribute the quality (or lack thereof) of a movie solely on the writer and/or director
A shitty director can make a shitty movie out of a good script and a shitty script can be made into a good movie by a good director. I don't know exactly which situation Max Landis falls into but food for thought.
I think it's harder to make a good movie out of a crappy script imo. At least not many come to mind for me.
Fuck film critics
i honestly went in with higher expectations after seeing that the professional critics were calling it garbage and i still wasn't disappointed, i actually thought it was a great movie
it's basically Suicide Squad all over again regarding the critical reception, that movie was completely fucking blasted by critics but turned out to be alright in my book
David Ayer did nothing wrong
especially the soundtrack deserves a mention, that shit is absolutely top notch even though some of the songs didn't fit all that well for the scenes they were used in
like World Gone Mad playing over the scene where Ward [sp]shoots those dirty cops[/sp] was unintentionally hilarious
it's basically Suicide Squad all over again
Err... not really a recommendation there bud
