don't know where he got suicide squad from.

I imagine it's something along the lines of 'critics don't know shit' or 'critics just hate DC', going by the SS comparison and that line of thinking being repeated ad nauseam.
It's really not that bad, I don't know what people are on about.

i meant that Suicide Squad was ripped apart by film critics but turned out to not be a shitty movie at all IMO

Pretty sure that movie was universally panned for being a 1.5 hour movie trailer.

People are overreacting because of the poor hamfisted comparison to minoriy issues. Its a pretty shitty and forced metaphor but a bad comparison doesn't make this movie racist trash. It is what it is, just a bad written movie.
I liked it, its a solidly OK movie. Nothing spectacularly good or bad, or disgustingly racist.
A hack writer and a hack director team up to produce an absolute turd.
Is anyone really surprised? I'm more surprised that people didn't smell Ayer for being the one-trick pony he always has been, and keep giving him the helm on big budget stinkers.

much more than this
I actually liked it
I legit just watched it like it was someones Shadowrun campaign and i loved it.
I think it's harder to make a good movie out of a crappy script imo. At least not many come to mind for me.
Just a few but Blade runner, The Master, any Nicolas Winding Refn film, 2001: a space odyssey, The Shining would look like dogshit if you were reading the scripts alone. All of those films rely almost entirely of elements from outside the script. There are a ton more like them as well
I like it for what it is, a buddy cop movie set in a alternate reality present day with orcs and shit.
They could've done better with exploring the world that they created, but Ward and Jakoby's chemistry with each other are just so well done that you just stick there for the ride.
The fantasy setting really worked for me when it comes to adding a little extra something to the main pair's relationship.
However, I wished they made the orcs a little more distinct outside of the whole blooded and unblooded thing they have.

A DM getting fed up with his players and just wanting to end the campaign would explain the bullshit ending...
[sp]Player 1: "I grab the wand!"
Player 2: "Dude, you're not a Bright, you'll blow us all up!"
DM: "Fine, whatever, you feel an awesome power coursing through you when you grab the wand."[/sp]
How could you not have seen [sp]one of the duo being a bright[/sp] coming from miles away when they pulled up the statistic.
Yeah it's really damn cheap for them to go that route but I'm surprised they didn't [sp]make the orc a bright[/sp]

Oh, I know. I just think it's been over explained enough already.
"hey this film was great also I enjoyed suicide squad" is like, utterly shattering to my desire to watch this film
i'll give it a go because I want it to be good

[Sp]they pretty much told you at the beginning of the movie that Will Smith was a bright. The crazy dude swinging a sword in the street literally told the orc "hey dood your partner is blessed you're part of the prophecy bla bla bla"[/sp]
Wasnt Foreshadowing as much as it was just telling you what will happen.

Suicide squad was trash, but this movie is legit enjoyable. Nothing spectacular but great atmosphere and setting.
Tbh the best thing that Max has done was that essay on Carly Rae Jepsen.
Turns out Emotion is a great album

Why are the critic ratings /10 and the user ratings /5?
Why are the critic ratings /10 and the user ratings /5?
Critics are probably better at providing more granularity in their film scores?
jesus
i hope i didn't put anyone off from watching Bright by mentioning that Suicide Squad wasn't complete crap in my opinion
if some fucking idiot is honestly going to refuse to watch it just because of that, don't do it
the movies have nothing in common except for David Ayer, a couple of actors, terrible critical reception and a bitchin' soundtrack

both flicks have over-the-top psycho/magic waifus too.
Honestly after seeing all the drama i ended up watching and i'd put it on the upper parts of the mediocre action movie mountain that you can find on netflix. very interesting theme and i wouldn't mind seeing a sequel all things considered
all of this reminded me a lot about the releases of suicide squad and Warcraft, how the critics were panning it and the audience loving it, and how it took a few weeks after the hype had died down for the audience to come to terms with many of those movie's flaws.
i can see that happening with bright
Why are the critic ratings /10 and the user ratings /5?
One big issue with Americans is we think 7/10 is an average score because of our school system. I don't know for sure, but if I had to guess, thats why they give viewers an out of 5 and critics out of 10.
The movie was a roller coaster of good and bad. Every time it started to become a well made film, something stupid happens (mostly being Jakoby's character being very badly written).
I sort of hope that they make a sequel but do it right because this universe definitely has a lot of potential for expansion.
I think the one thing they really missed on was making the orc the Bright and him being the one saying "Rather we all die with me grabbing the wand than you having it". Would have made a much better character development at the end and help the "orcs are oppressed black people but are people too" metaphor all wrap in.
Will Smith and Joel Edgerton are the best things about the movie. There really wasn't enough world building for the fantasy setting and the movie's attempt at making commentary on racial inequality falls flat because the orc stand-ins for black people are just as barbaric and fucked up as everyone thought they were. So what the fuck are we supposed to take away from that?
Honestly, I never felt the orcs resembled black people. They reminded me more of irish/italian/russian gangsters.
Honestly, I never felt the orcs resembled black people. They reminded me more of irish/italian/russian gangsters.
No, their culture, personalities, and clothing styles definitely point to them being black people. The only odd thing out was their enjoyment of garbage metal music.
Honestly, I never felt the orcs resembled black people. They reminded me more of irish/italian/russian gangsters.
Besides the heavy metal thing, I can't see them as anything other than a metaphor for black people.

Bro, you wanna take this outside?
Don't believe reviewers, Bright was awesome.
Honestly Bright is a buddy cop movie with magic and shit that isn't a completely embarrassing nerd fest I think it makes a good movie but it would be an amazing series.
The critics seem to be in no fun allowed mode.
