All-electric bus travels record 1,100 miles on a single charge
Doesn't really justify diesel. Get a second hand EV, even the worst EV will easily do 20km a day for a fraction of the price. I do 65km a day in my Leaf.
The cheapest Leaf here costs as much as an A3 Sportback S-Line 2.0TDI with 170bhp, which is currently what I'm saving for.
So... Basicaly, its either a butt ugly car from the inside to the outside that will set ablaze my electrical bill, or a tried and tested beautiful and well equipped hatchback that allows me to go more than 300 miles with 25 euros of diesel in it, all of that after painfully saving for two years.
This is the problem that everyone seems to forget while constantly saying "fuck ICEs"
It's all Tesla and EVs until you get to people who can't afford to buy a brand new car or just don't want to do the equivalent of picking a salad at a steakhouse, for the same price.
The new Leaf however... Thats a different story, I'll happily give you that.

"that will set ablaze my electrical bill"
it won't, an EV charge is around 7 €, less than a petrol charge

Pretty sure its gonna be way more expensive here, AND I certainly wouldn't get the same mileage either from that charge.

So far this month I'm at 888 miles, at 214 kWh of usage. While Portugal does have more expensive electric than most, at €0.145 per kWh it's still only €31. Diesels are undoubtedly about to get legislated against in the next few years as well.

I wonder by how much though.
Really don't think its gonna be such a blow that diesel will be more expensive to run than petrol.
It would rock the wallets of way too many people who depend on it and have no other choice.
That's really cool!
I'm really happy that in our lifetime we will see the gradual phase-out of fossil-fuel vehicles.
Remember the VW scandal about the cheating software manipulating the emission values of diesel cars?
Gotta need the specifications for this test. What speed? Temperatures? (In winter you might wanna turn up the AC) How much weight was transported?
I don't know how you equate a controlled test like this to straight up cheating on emission tests.
It's not going to travel as far in real-world use for many reasons, but it's pretty safe to assume that it'll travel far enough.

Several major European cities have already set dates for banning diesels completely. I wouldn't be surprised to see the whole EU follow for all cities. Portugal is prime for electrification, since most of the energy is renewable, and it's relatively small.

Just in Lisbon I'd bet. Wouldn't fly at all anywhere else.
Because I want ICE under my hood is all the justification I need to keep on relying on moving pistons to pull me along.
Enjoy the Luddite life while it lasts
