In my opinion I'm not expressing per se outrage or disappointment, because obviously Valve didn't make the game. Portal and Half-Life are such key franchises to Valve that seeing them strewn about in a random mobile game just feels really, really... bad. Something Portal-related comes out you expect it to be something cool and it's just... Bridge Building.
That, and from the developers standpoint I just ask why thought this was a good idea? Did they not foresee that this would be received negatively?
What are you talking about? Bridge building is neat. And it's not the developers fault that valve is fucking up, they just wanted to do a twist in their bridge constructor game by adding portals.
What's wrong with bridge building? They're fun physics games and the portals make a neat twist
I think you're missing my point. I'm sure the game is good, I haven't played a Bridge-Building game in years so I dunno if the Bridge-Building Tech has improved lately. There's no blame on the developer themselves, imo, but not having the hindsight to go "Hey maybe meddling with this beloved and critically acclaimed franchise is a bad idea" is on them.
What's wrong with bridge building? They're fun physics games and the portals make a neat twist
they could always just have added portals to the game without making it Portal
honestly this looks like a pretty rad twist on the usual bridge building game
At least it's not a card game. I don't mind bridge builders at all.
It's hard to be mad when it's not actually made by Valve, just using the license.
Artifact on the other hand...
Oh for fuck sake.
Guess I was too hopeful that valve was going to make a normal game again.

It's really quite impressive how utterly incapable people are of realizing a game whose trailer was uploaded by a channel that's very blatantly not Valve is, oddly enough, not developed by Valve.
What is it with forum-goers being so incapable of actually reading shit?
Do newer Bridge Constructor games work same way as the original one where physics are Bad Rats level and every time you play same bridge the outcome is different somehow?
i played the first one a ton and i don't remember the results being different with every run
edit: i think when your car explodes, it has a chance of breaking the pseudo-2D and going off the side of the screen which is a bit bad rats-y

Why the hell should some small developer studio/publishers, who probably at most looked at the Portal concept and mechanics and thought "dang, that's pretty cool", get the blame for rabid childish fanbase acting like bunch of immature idiots? At most, you can try to shift the blame on Valve but even then, this is still for the most part on those idiots.
valve is not making this

Thats pretty obvious.
But the title inferred it was going to be an actual portal game.

Cause It totally has nothing to do with 'forum-goers' reading a sensationalist title in the forum that infers a new portal game, then opening the thread to find out it isn't actually portal, does it?
We're all just SUPER incapable aren't we....:goodjob:
I, for one, am glad they are not simply sitting on the IP letting it collect dust and cobwebs.
[editline]6th December 2017[/editline]
Oh god dammit, never relying on automerge again
I don't get it... If its not made by valve y'all like it. But if it was made by valve y'all hate it? Looks like an entertaining enough game depending on how cheap it will be regardless of who made it.
I mean, it's not the first time we've seen stuff like this.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/3483/Peggle_Extreme/
My point exactly... Peggle Extreme was a pretty decent game. Milk me more daddy.

Where did I say they should get the blame?
I think I can talk about this now: I played this game for an hour a while ago and I know you guys are gonna be like shill and aren't gonna believe it, but it's actually a complete fucking masterpiece. The game design is perfect, the graphical design is some of the most cohesive I've ever seen, and it's a lot of fun. In a lot of ways it's kind of more of a Portal game than Portal 2 was: a story-light, funny offbeat puzzler. What I especially didn't expect was how good it looked: just like a Portal 2 trailer, but in real time. The game stunned me from the main menu loading sequence. It genuinely took less than a second to impress me after they started it up.
I wasn't expecting to like it but it's probably gonna be a day 1 buy for me
Can confirm:
No tricks
No microtransactions
$5-10 price tag? For 50 levels?
Worth it. Most fun I've had playing a puzzler in a long time. You guys are definitely gonna love it.
the point is and has always been that valve is doing nothing.
Sure this is probably a nice game but that's not what people are upset about.
Fuck, I was hoping itd be a trading card game
the point is and has always been that valve is doing nothing.

if that wasnt what people are upset about, the video wouldnt have disabled ratings

You could reread your own posts instead of me doing it for you, you know.
You say "no blame on them" and then proceed to blame them. Like, wow.
What a gip! This was a total mislead! I thought this was a new POSTAL game.
You could reread your own posts instead of me doing it for you, you know.

What the fuck, how am I blaming them? I'm saying they didn't seem to have the hindsight that this would be received poorly. How is that blame? If anyone's to blame it's Valve for being too liberal about handing out their IP's to random indie projects.
tbh I think everyone that is going "whao dude calm down its totally not valve making it so its okay" are being a bit obtuse. i think everyone knows why this is being received so poorly, and it has entirely everything to do with valve and how they handle their game IP's. i'm a bit jaded towards the whole valve/half life/portal thing myself now so while this doesn't bother me, i'm in no way surprised that they've had to disable ratings on this video and none of you should be either.
do none of you remember the artifact announcement? anything valve announces or anything attached to their IP is doomed to poor reception unless it's half life 3.

Do you realize this subforum is called Sensationalist Headlines, right? And do you think Valve would announce a portal game (one of their biggests ips) without any fuzz?
And for a moment I thought Valve learned a new number. Oh well I'm always up for new Aperture stuffs.
to poor reception unless it's half life 3.
I feel L4D3, Portal3, TF3, even ricochet 2 would still be greatly appreciated.
nothing's stopping them to make a new first-person series either.

well sure, i was being a bit hyperbolic. there's a great deal that valve could announce that would please it's fans, but unless it's a mainline game, i don't see valve getting away with side games and cutesy spin off titles, no matter how legitimately good they may be.
