I think I may consider buying it. Looks pretty fun.
People asking for Portal 3 on the comments section... Jeez guys, Portal as a franchise actually had a fantastic ending.
We don't ever need another game, it ain't like HL: Episode 2 where the story practically ends on the most HOLY SHIT cliffhanger ever and then they never intend on finishing it, we got one of the best sequels for a series AND a definitive satisfying ending that really capped off the series in the best way it could have ever been capped off.
Like I seriously don't want another one, I think as a series it ended so well, that another might very well just spoil the broth.
[editline]edit[/editline]
Also, Valve have utilized their I.P in little crossover spinoffs by other companies plenty of times before, why is it that NOW people are getting pissed off... Lemme guess, people are pissed off that Half Life will never come back (understandable) but honestly?
Don't be taking it out on what looks like an ok crossover game.
I for one am looking forward to the new and groundbreaking Ass Portal
We're gonna delve into the colon
Honestly there's only one thing this game could do that would legitimize any form of outrage...
[sp]"The cake is a lie"[/sp]
I think Valve's older IPs (especially the singleplayer ones) carry a lot of baggage for people. They're so well-regarded, but they just stopped happening after Portal 2 with little to no communication, just fans assuring other fans that it's probably coming eventually until everyone slowly started to realize that it wasn't coming at all. I think a little while after Portal 2 released Gabe said something along the lines of singleplayer games without multiplayer or micro-transactions frankly being nowhere near as profitable as games like TF2 that do have them, a sentiment that's been repeated throughout much of the AAA industry- 'Our profit margins say you don't actually want these games.' Probably should've realized then that it was over.
Not saying the outrage here is justified, but I could see it coming here a mile away. A lot of old Valve fans seem to feel abruptly betrayed after years of being catered to better than almost any other developer, even though Valve doesn't technically owe them anything.

I used to feel that way. Then I realized they just don't care anymore
I don't really mind this because the Portal series had ended, with Portal 2 concluding the story. Having a spin-off game using the potential of the portals mechanic just sounds like a bonus to me.
The real insult would've been to make a Half Life bridge constructor.

this is aesthetically perfect. looks like a valve-made mod for a game
funny to think literally all the outrage in the last 3 pages would basically not exist if the title more accurately said 'bridge builder gets a Portal-themed spinoff' or something :v:
I'm sorry how do I not get mad from this? You think valve doesn't get a little $ from each purchase? This is basically "let the community make hats for our game" but with whole games and copyrights now
They get money of EACH purcase of every game on Steam.
I had to put my hype and excitement down when I read the title, so I wouldn't be disappointed.
Good idea by the looks of it.
Something sounds weird about GLaDOS, it sounds different compared than her Portal 1 voice before she got the more Human voice.
Besides that this looks fun, I am a sucker for puzzle games and I've been interested in the bridge building games for a while, looks like adding Portals will just make it even more fun.
If it wasn't coming to the switch I probably wouldn't pick it up but this seems like a perfect fit.
Seeing all this mess, I can somewhat understand those saying that gamers are entitled. Jesus fuck, what a huge Nothing burger.
Why make games when we can let other people make them for us?
Ricochet themed digital checkers next?
Pleasantly surprised it's coming out on the switch if I'm honest. Also doesn't that make this the first Valve property (yeah yeah not developed by Valve but you get what I mean) released on the Switch? Portable HL2 when?

They could release HL2, the Episodes and Portal on the switch since they already have them running on the Nvidia Shield

You're telling me the company that owns and operates the storefront that people sell games on gets a cut of the profits??
Next thing you'll be telling me they actually PAY people to work there!!!
I'm not sure i see the problem here.
Do you get mad when literally any other IP gets licensed?
I kind of wish they wouldn't reuse the Portal 1 lines and just have written dialogue for GLaDOS instead. It feels cheaper when they re-use lines.
That being said, this seems reasonably fun.

If valve had made something within the past decade that isn't some esport cashgrab I wouldn't be as annoyed by this.
They barely make games anymore, they just milk the ones they've already made, and the release of this just further emphasizes that they do absolutely nothing. Explains why all those writers have been leaving the company.

They recorded new lines for the game.
Almost every mission has lines from glados explaining mechanics and goals.

So Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Portal 2, and Alien Swarm are esports cash grabs?

Well, they tried to do it with Portal 2. It had a dumb little store for buying emotes and flags.
It got abandoned pretty quickly.

Are you seriously trying to convince people that the portal 2 store didn't happen with an image about trading?

Trading never happened. The store very much did happen and got shut down a few years ago.

They abandoned their plans because nobody wanted to buy hats that only one other player could see at any given time - for a co-op campaign that has far less replayability than most of Valves' other multiplayer games.
What's even sadder is that at the time, Gabe Newell had pretty much made it clear that Portal 2 was their model for games featuring single-player going forward. I believe he called it "Single Player Plus." It's not surprising that after it fell flat on its face, Valve seemingly gave up on single player entirely.

Apologies. I stand corrected.
That really shows how well they advertised and supported this store thing during the numerous years of its existence.

The greatest thing was how german players received exclusive skins from Amazon and they were buggy and you couldn't turn them off.
They fixed them by REMOVING THEM ENTIRELY... and they were pretty neat to be honest.
