• Take-Two sent a C&D letter to the OpenIV team, therefore killing GTA 5 modding

imagine the hate they'd get if taketwo completely out of the blue announced paid mods with a 90% cut given to them, and 5% to rockstar I'm not even sure it'd be possible to be that detached though but
I just had a thought actually since openIV will be broken come an update, and you can't force updates off on steam that easily you're actually better off with a pirated version of the game which 1. Will work with OpenIV as far as I know 2. Won't automatically update, and since you won't use online ANYWAYS, it won't matter That isn't to say its a good idea to pirate over this, that'd be dumb. But for modders especially this by all means makes piracy the superior service. i'm trying to think of every way this just makes it a worse decision for T-Two and there's many things that do
People adding bad reviews out of spite for stuff like this is incredibly childish
You know what's even more childish? Sending out a badly worded C&D letter to stop paying customers from modding your game, when you've by all accounts made an insane amount of money already. Nothing is more childish than making your customers' experience worse just to maybe gain slightly more revenue. Modding probably factored in to some customers' buying decisions as well, making this even worse.
GTA V just hit "Overwhelmingly Negative" on Steam.
Their overall rating is also about to drop sub 70
Their complete rating bomb should also serve as a warning to other companies should they try pulling mod support as well (and considering that most games don't have the popularity of gta, such a low rating will practically be a death sentence) . Even if take two does nothing, this effort is not going to waste

I doubt this is going to hurt sales majorly, the game has been out for a few years already.
I doubt this is going to hurt sales majorly, the game has been out for a few years already.
As mentioned before, many people buy the game for mods. So it's going to harm long term sales.
The graphs keep coming:
GTA V wasn't even good anyways.
Neither released at the same time, but I'd rather play either Saints Row the Third or Watch_Dogs over GTAV. GTAV just felt like the same thing they've been doing for years except now with 3 different characters and offroading is a lot more fun/existent since San Andreas is really the only other one with a rural hills area. If Volition goes back to the whole non-superpowers thing for Saints Row or Ubisoft releases a Watch_Dogs 3 and either of these come out around the same time as GTAVI, I know which one I'm buying, and spoiler, it doesn't have a 6 in the title.
Neither released at the same time, but I'd rather play either Saints Row the Third or Watch_Dogs over GTAV.
Not that I disagree, but actually Watch_Dogs did come out around the same time back in '13.
The graphs keep coming:
Well fuck, I didn't realize the reviews had gotten that bad. Went and did my part by dropping in my two cents. [editline]17th June 2017[/editline]
Not that I disagree, but actually Watch_Dogs did come out around the same time back in '13.
Watch_Dogs came out in May 2014, months after last-gen GTAV and months before current-gen GTAV, and almost a full year before PC GTAV Technically the WiiU version came out right around the same time that current-gen GTAV released but I don't think that version was really competing with GTAV.
Just left a negative review as well. Never even used mods myself, but removing the ability to mod years after the fact is the biggest pile of shit I've heard of; especially given the state of GTA Online.

Here I was thinking that I could go and install some skins for GTA V and here this comes, the ultimate f*** you got mine that I doubt anyone's ever seen before. Mods are what make the games I play more enjoyable. It's one of the huge reasons why I love PC gaming over consoles. Mods sell me games, mods tweak my games, mods most of all customize my games. I'm just livid, not just that I can't install these skins but that Take 2 just doesn't care. They've got all our money but it will never be enough; To see that they feel the need to stomp on the common man to get all of the world's money is just pathetic.
nothing will happen. as long as people keep buying gta online shark cards they won't care. hell, i bet they won't put RDR2 on PC at all now because of mods. they must have hated people just spawning in the shiny new cars instead of paying for microtransactions for them.
i was one of those fucking idiots who bought it on PC so this is kinda bullshit
It would be better if openiv was opensource. Good luck closing opensource project.
The point is to have a community too. Closing an open-source project itself isn't more difficult, it's just that some people will retain the source code on their PCs. They wouldn't really be able to reform and resume work in the same way since T2 would be on the lookout.
RECENT: Overwhelmingly Negative (33,735 reviews) OVERALL: Mixed (223,240 reviews)
tbh I wonder if they actually understand fully what openIV is by its intention they're going after hacking tools, are they aware that this isn't actually a hacking tool or what
I wish I could edit my reviews. Fuck, I wish I could bomb some of them as well.
I wish I could edit my reviews. Fuck, I wish I could bomb some of them as well.
if people can't edit reviews then once this hits beyond mixed overall, this is quite literally going to be an unfixable score :v: [editline]18th June 2017[/editline] https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/523897653299182707/ [editline]18th June 2017[/editline] do that basically apparently or something I guess should look like this [t]http://i.imgur.com/esAy9jC.png[/t]
People adding bad reviews out of spite for stuff like this is incredibly childish
Half of GTA's lasting appeal is being able to mod the game and playing it indefinitely. Killing OpenIV is basically wilfully removing features of the game for no reason. You're talking shit, dude.

GTA 4, 4 complete edition and 5 are all in "mixed" overall Eat a dick, TakeTwo
It would be better if openiv was opensource. Good luck closing opensource project.
They admitted on twitter forever ago the source has illegal shit that could get them in trouble if i'm remembering right
They admitted on twitter forever ago the source has illegal shit that could get them in trouble if i'm remembering right
probably related to them breaking GTA's encryption
One of the things I get out of modding and enjoy is people who patch the game, fix minute and annoying bugs or even major ones. I think destroying modding is a mistake, as modding has brought out some of the best in gaming [Half o Valve's fucking games are derived from mods!] I can understand it completely if you're doing it to protect something but, I paid for the game, it's on my HDD, or SSD, or 30000GB USB drive, I'm going to do what the fuck I want to the singleplayer game. I don't have any intentions on murking up Multiplayer, so why attack me?
A very accessible hacking tool that anyone can download and which works completely fine in GTA:O has nothing to do with OpenIV. And why would it? Hacks usually are injected dll's, they don't fuck with actual game files.

They should have known better.
