Take-Two sent a C&D letter to the OpenIV team, therefore killing GTA 5 modding
they've never released singleplayer content so i dont see why it would matter to them
because not having content in single player flocks people to multiplayer, and there's always a percentage of those people who buy shark cards
it's the same reason they haven't integrated the DLC's into the single player. They've even stopped putting the new cars up for sale in the single player a while ago.
Take-Two, and by extension Rockstar: "You do not own the software that you purchased. We do."

All of digital distribution really
All of digital distribution really
Physical copies too, technically.
EULAs are a bitch. We technically don't own the software we buy, just a license to use it under some defined guidelines.
I actually kind of have a theory about why they went after single player mods. The GTA Online community calls script kiddies who use trainers "modders." So T2 saw "mod tool" because they're a bunch of tech illiterate suits and went after openIV.
Fuck they even closed Menyoo.
Hope someone leaks so bad at T2 for this one now.
They did? I used it in SP RIP

Same here
We have always appreciated the creative efforts of the PC modding community and we still fondly remember the awesome zombie invasion mod and original GTA map mod for GTAIV PC among many other classics.
Nice. Let that appreciation show.
I know it's it's Take 2 suing people but I'm having trouble believing they would do this without the help and knowledge of R* and them not really trying to stop this from happening.
They did? I used it in SP RIP
Same, menyoo was by far the best SP menu, literally spent hours just playing free roam with that menu
fuck taketwo

Rockstar encourages modding actually
they have nothing to do with this
Rockstar encourages modding actually
they really like to say they do anyway
I'm pretty sure it's a case of R* not minding modding, but Take 2 having a massive issue with it due to people messing with their cash cow online experience.
If R* had a different publisher that was more friendly towards, or didn't care about modders, we probably wouldn't be in this situation.
Usually, most developers actually like mods, because they love seeing what people can do given the massive work they put into the game themselves. It's maybe only super elitist indie developers that are against modding, because "games are art and shouldn't be tampered with" or some bullshit like that.
I'm honestly surprised R* doesn't publish their own games given how big they are.

You can still get the SP trainer from gta5-mods.com. It doesn't require scripthook any more.

They would have to buy their IPs or start new ones, they don't own GTA or Red Dead, Take Two does.

It was taken down as well.

It's unlikely that any random on the Steam Store will ever see my review, but I still contributed to the downvote flood and T2 deserves it.
all of this shit would have been solved if you were to implement proper dedicated player hosted servers for GTA V PC and leave sharkcards and matchmaking and the sort of crap for consoles.
To be fair, from their perspective, that's a bad business decision because
a) that would mean completely rewriting the PC version's network architecture, when P2P works even though it is as exploitable as fuck and installing hacks is as simple as extracting a zip into the GTAV folder and launching the game, and
b) they want to milk the PC market for Shark Cards too, because the only thing they care about is

There's a new update pending admin approval. You could download a version 12 hours ago, and I'm not sure how long this update has been pending.

I know that much, I'm just kind of surprised they haven't at least tried to. Like maybe if they ever decide to make a new IP.
There's no denying that R* wouldn't be as big as it was today without Take Two, and that's very bitter sweet. You have some insanely talented and skilled developers with a rich background being fully supported by probably one of the 3 worst publishers in the video game market.
But who knows. Apparently by many accounts, Leslie Benzies (lead producer on GTA since III and also RDR) was almost a sort of linchpin for the company, saving their asses many times over. With him gone, it'll be interesting to see what R* does with their future games.

The author requested it to become 'unapproved'
I don't think it is coming back.

EULA doesn't even mean shit outside of the US, and even then it should be presented before the product is bought if it to have any meaning, just letting you know. GTA V doesn't have its EULA on the store page, so that counts as well.

Damn that sucks. Hopefully mafins can find a way so people can't bypass the single player restriction... again.

The site went down, maybe he is hunkering down like the tweet says.
Either way I doubt this mod might get updated for a while.
You know I actually really respect taketwo for sending C&D's to hacks
but they started it off in a way that makes this gesture virtually worthless and they're doing it way too late for it to matter (That is, actually really dealing with hackers). The damage has been done.
If you want a great example of how to deal with hacking, do what blizzard does. Don't unban hackers in waves and then wonder why people are complaining you absolute clowns.
Take two trying to deal with hackers created what is possibly the most embarrassing blunder I've seen in a long long time.
It would have been fine if they only went after the paid hacks and left OIV alone, it really proves how out of touch most publishers are about their own media they work in/with.
id be surprised by this but looking back at san andreas of all things you need to download an (iirc) illegal .exe file of a previous version of the game just to mod it unless you own it on an old cd or something like that
its not like people will stop modding it though lol, you simply cant go after something like this on the internet because there will always be those who are unaffected or dont care about legal stuff and its hard to go after the end user because of how small they are and how few methods they can use without shoving invasive and terrible drm down people's throats.
even if they did just pirate it and there you go problem solved for people who mod it and they lose even more money
dumb move from every point of view honestly, you lose public opinion money and playercount and the more they push it the more this will happen
Finally an open source version of scripthook

There was another open source one at one point that didn't last very long because it lost support almost immediately. (lacked functions that were required for a majority of the popular mods)
