• Take-Two sent a C&D letter to the OpenIV team, therefore killing GTA 5 modding
I don't know why anybody is surprised. Take-Two has always been heavily against modding of all forms. They've outright said so several times.
The problem is XCOM2 is with Take-Two so it's we will allow you to mod unless it interferes with our money supply.
Meanwhile Bethesda are embracing mods.
You mean "paid mods where they get a nice big chunk of the income"
And these cunts just bought KSP, and the only reason that games still going is because of the mods. What the FUCK
*slow clap* Well, I now have 65GB more free space in my computer.
You mean "paid mods where they get a nice big chunk of the income"
There's a difference. They still allow for people to make free mods.
fucking hell, I'm mad seriously, the whole Openformats project irreplaceable, I feel really sorry for the team
There's a difference. They still allow for people to make free mods.
until the "pay for premium fuel" update comes around
I urge everyone to boycott Take-Two products, including the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2. This is absolute horseshit and a travesty.
don't worry i was already not interested
This. I don't understand why people don't develop these softwares anonymously. Did OpenIV receive a letter at their address? How do you even find their address? Why even share it with everyone? Fuck all this bullshit, just have an online identity, leave nothing that could be traced back to you or identify you in real life any way. Why don't people do this, especially for software that is distributed freely.
remember we're talking about a company that sent a fucking private investigator to someone's house over a gta5 mod. if they want to find somebody, they'll go to your webhost or isp and demand your personal info and go from there
I've never used OpenIV so i didn't know this but you are essentially forced to uninstall it now? Why all these online checks anyway?
drm for a modding tool. its a trend these days
You mean "paid mods where they get a nice big chunk of the income"
Bethesda have always embraced mods, and given the players the tools to make them. Long before Paid Mods were a thing.
And these cunts just bought KSP, and the only reason that games still going is because of the mods. What the FUCK
The only reason they're going after mods in GTAV is because of GTA Online and micro-transactions. Take-Two has other games under their umbrella which allow modding fine. They're not going to stop mods in KSP.
Wont this do more harm than good to them? Like, surely some people will be less likely to buy the game if there's no modding?
Open IV was used to add new models, sounds and textures, sometimes editing internal game scripts. Any mods that don't require editing the game files directly will be unaffected by this, for now.
OpenIV (the tool, not the team) assisted in the creation of hacking tools as well so their reasoning is the platform allows users to break the game, one method of which includes generating free money. Obviously when you can do this in the millions and bypass the need to pay 99 bucks for 8 million in-game cash, this becomes a problem because you no longer need to give them money. TL;DR; It was never a problem until they started charging for fake money. Now that they stand to lose cash on this and future titles, modding is incorrigible.
Microtransactions in paid games are simply a cancer on the industry. GTAV has made so much money that I can't imagine why they would need extra - greed knows no bounds I suppose.
I urge everyone to boycott Take-Two products, including the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2. This is absolute horseshit and a travesty.
Sending a ton of angry letters to T2 would probably have larger effect, and thats not saying much.
Wont this do more harm than good to them? Like, surely some people will be less likely to buy the game if there's no modding?
Yeah, also the rioting from this will be 5x that when fivem was shut down [editline]14th June 2017[/editline]
Open IV was used to add new models, sounds and textures, sometimes editing internal game scripts. by the way, the only reason GTAV has a resurgence on twitch is because of modded roleplay 29,000+ people right now, all the top channels are modded RP https://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/Grand%20Theft%20Auto%20V
the funny thing is, I'm willing to bet this will make the hacking issue even worse and I hope it does
Good thing I uninstalled the game months ago. Now I don't have a reason to install it ever again
I know you mean well, but look at how the left 4 dead 2 boycott turned out, when it came out everyone in that group was playing the game. I doubt that whoever boycotts the game will be so small of a gruop T2 wouldn't even notice them, compared to the amount of people that will buy RDR2 and whenever GTA 6 comes out.
Wow, I remember joining the L4D2 boycott because I was pissed Valve didn't announce Episode Three. That was 7 years ago. Damn
the funny thing is, I'm willing to bet this will make the hacking issue even worse
Seeing how picking up even a cent of 'hacked' money apparently results in a temp ban plus money wipe, I could totally see the 'hackers' that never seem to get caught being Take-Two employees trying to 'motivate' people to buy money.
This is a huge blow to the machinima community. We were really looking forward to OpenCamera 2.0
I regret buying GTA V and will never buy another Rockstar game again, unless for like 2 bucks at a ridiculous sale
And these cunts just bought KSP, and the only reason that games still going is because of the mods. What the FUCK
KSP doesn't have a heavily monetised multiplayer aspect built from the ground up to be an entirely self sufficient Skinner box. They're unlikely to touch KSP in any real sense other than funnel money at it to try and get it on more platforms.
Isn't it a little late for this? The game came out on PC two years ago, I'm sure they're not still making enough of a profit for OpenIV to be a problem. And they don't even have legal basis for this shit. That's the worst part, if NTAuthority and these guys just got proper representation, this bullshit could be fought off for the benefit of all games. Instead, iirc NTA represented himself and broke down in the courtroom and now it looks like the OpenIV team won't even try to fight this. This is ridiculous and will only spread this cancer to other studios and games.
the only thing that people can do to voice their disapprobation is giving bad ratings on steam tbh. Like people are doing with EUIV right now.

I've been boycotting Ubisoft for years now because of the awful experience with their customer service. [editline]14th June 2017[/editline] holy fuck its been seven years since i started boycotting them lmao
Wont this do more harm than good to them? Like, surely some people will be less likely to buy the game if there's no modding?
Like everybody else has said, yeah. There's not much of a reason to play if they're going to do this. Mods added a shitload of first-class content to it (that's free; free is always good), and that's exactly why you see so many LPs on Twitch, YouTube, etc. for V in the first place. It's allowed modders to make the game into stuff that it wasn't even supposed to be, and T2 knows it. Maybe the LPrs will be able to rally against it and convince the community to push back against them, I don't know, but this is terribly sad. Forget shooting themselves in the foot, they've gone straight to stuffing a live hand grenade down their goddamn pantleg.:goodjob:
Fuck. Those modded Twitch channels are kinda depressing to watch. This might be the last few days those servers are up unless something gets figured out, and a whole new field of awesome people and mods gets destroyed.
We need some attorney to volunteer to represent openIV fuck you, T2. The West's Konami
