Take-Two sent a C&D letter to the OpenIV team, therefore killing GTA 5 modding

This is exactly what I had in mind two years ago. Good I didn't buy it at any point.
Foot? Take-Two is shooting itself in the head with this bullshit. The only reason a lot of people even bought GTAV on PC was for the modding, and killing modding is killing the reason to keep the game installed for those people.
Everyone says that every time, and then they line up to buy the next version and even rate people who bring this up with a deluge of boxes for saying it.
Don't give people who don't value you as a customer money, and maybe they might change their tune.
Seeing how picking up even a cent of 'hacked' money apparently results in a temp ban plus money wipe, I could totally see the 'hackers' that never seem to get caught being Take-Two employees trying to 'motivate' people to buy money.
I remember the first time I was 'hacked'
I regret logging out, they were giving me money, I should have just stayed the fuck put and taken all of it and then spent it all immediately
thankfully it happened many times after that and I was able to get a really decent amount of money by chance encounters and ever lost it and was never banned
Wont this do more harm than good to them? Like, surely some people will be less likely to buy the game if there's no modding?
They already made their money.
I urge everyone to boycott Take-Two products, including the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2. This is absolute horseshit and a travesty.
Nah, still gonna buy it.
[sp]Used or from G2A so that 2k doesn't get a single penny[/sp]

Not gonna sacrifice my personal enjoyment to get personal enjoyment. I want to play the game, I don't want to give them my money, there's easy ways for me to do that without piracy.
This, next to Bethesda's decision to revamp the paid mods shit, is going to send the wrong message to everyone in the industry.

Doesn't change a thing. Just don't buy it, easy as that.
Doesn't change a thing. Just don't buy it, easy as that.
Why would I do that when I actually want to play the game though lol
I fail to see how they're getting money from me giving someone else that isn't them money ~a year+ after release.
[editline]a[/editline]
There's no reason for me to not buy it unless the CEO gets off to looking at charts that show how many people are playing the game
The sad thing here is that it most likely means nothing to them.
The main pro-mod argument here is that they make the games lifecycle longer, but with the still large playerbase that made about $500M in microtransactions last year (that are basically 100% profit because of the low effort that it takes to make them) I do not see a stop for this.

It's not really paid mods, it's closer to outsourced microtransactions DLC.
Which is still bad in a singleplayer game, but at least it's better than the slow trickle of Dead Space 3 and Deus Ex MD selling you basic supplies and not actual content for real money.
Doesn't change a thing. Just don't buy it, easy as that.
I find I'm not buying a lot of games these days thanks to what an absolute shitheap the video games industry is now.
This is so bullshit. I really don't get it, mods got T2 some profit because there always were people that bought the game just for mods.
It's officially over, this is what popped up when I ran OpenIV:

Can't access the game files now.
Most gamers have zero sense of integrity, it's a shame really.
I've been boycotting Ubisoft for years now because of the awful experience with their customer service.
[editline]14th June 2017[/editline]
holy fuck its been seven years since i started boycotting them lmao
This is why I encourage people I know to get a sense of consumer responsibility. Probably will do jack shit with such a huge game franchise as GTA though, but it's the principle that counts.
Microtransactions in paid games are simply a cancer on the industry. GTAV has made so much money that I can't imagine why they would need extra - greed knows no bounds I suppose.
It's because these days, and most days I suppose, companies don't want to make money. They want to make all the money.
Also holy fuck they said modding their game was illegal. That's like DSP-tier stupidity.
"YOU CAN'T ILLEGALLY EDIT MY GAME DUDE"
Is a luck I received my GTA V for steam for free.
Fuck T2 for real. Never bought shit from them. And hope this backfires completely.

Well if it is in the Terms of Service/EULA.

If you block Open IV from accessing the internet it should work.
Well if it is in the Terms of Service/EULA.
But then is the game truly yours or is just some sort of lifetime rent?
But then is the game truly yours or is just some sort of lifetime rent?
Most games you don't actually own, you own a licence to use it.

Well, I suppose all the streamers that are doing RP on Twitch are gonna see it and react to it, including anyone else that uses it, and probably rally against T2.

The streamers are running FIVEM, i highly doubt even a small percentage even heard of openIV
Well if it is in the Terms of Service/EULA.
Doesn't make it any less stupid.

Huh, I assumed you'd need OpenIV to run FiveM. I wonder if FiveM devs would leave a similar message if they get hit as well.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone just cracks OpenIV now that it's trying to force you to uninstall. If people can get around Denuvo and the copy protection in GTA V itself, they can definitely bypass this. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a few easy jump bypasses.

Modifying something someone else made may very well be against copyright law. This case is quite likely to fall under special protections, though.
...they can't do anything to the OpenIV team, though, because that team's in Russia someplace.

Maybe earlier versions, the current one is pretty streamlined and easy to use.

the EU should make modding a right
Doesn't make it any less stupid.
And if I remember correctly TOS/EULA are not legally binding, so it's not a crime for you to break them?
