Take-Two sent a C&D letter to the OpenIV team, therefore killing GTA 5 modding
I have put off buying Civ 6, XCOM 2, and Mafia III for this reason, and it looks like I'll be continuing this trend by not purchasing Red Dead Redemption 2 as well. It's a shame because I really love Rockstar's commitment to quality, but since it seems 2k has it's Vice Grip on their properties, it's preventing me from enjoying their games.
Majority of people are still going to give them their money anyway, sadly.
Take-Two, not 2K
I bet they are trying to kill modding because you can just spawn all the new overpriced cars in singleplayer and not have to buy a shitty shark card
OpenIV wasn't allowing that.
OpenIV was just for replacing assets. Spawning cars and shit is done via external scripts
its way the fuck more childish to kill modding which quite genuinely enhances the game and extends the lifetime of it. It allows customers to literally do all the work for them.
and, not only that, but there are way more games to play. Just because someone avoids 6 publishers doesn't mean they can't buy from the bajillion others out there that aren't asshats with customers.
Remember MTA or SA:MP? I remember playing that shit in 2008-10, and even then, the top 2 servers were always at a full 200 players. It was almost a whole new game

They are clearly upset with car spawning in SP, they already tried to disable it by auto despawning DLC cars, which modders fixed instantly
R* have posted before about being fine with SP mods, its so bullshit that they don't get a say in this because t2 is the parent company
Yes they might be upset, I'm just saying it had nothing to do with OpenIV's purpose
GTA V wasn't even good anyways.
It's a super solid game with an astronomical fuckton of content. It's a huge bummer Take-Two is doing this because it effects people's opinions of good games. (rightfully so)

You have to be honest, there's no way you cannot enjoy GTA V's single-player mode unless you hate this kind of game in the first place. Unless you absolutely hated all 3 main characters too.
GTA V has lots of varied and fun missions, it's quite well-written and funny, it has a gigantic map to explore full of side-missions and things to find.
It's a genuinely good game, but GTA Online is a completely different matter, one that I've mostly ignored and left unplayed so far.

The online maybe. The sp is half baked and abandoned
It was really lackluster in gameplay and content
Main story: 30 hours

Lackluster in content?
How is it even half-baked? The level of detail in everything is incredible.
And it has the best gameplay in the series, I have no clue what game you've been playing.

Theres nothing to do once you finish the story really. It does have attention to detail but as far as gameplay and game design goes it's awfully lacking.
Sure it's fun and enjoyable for some time as a simple shooter and racer but that's about it. It doesn't excel in either departament and there is essentially no meta game (as in, shit to do beyond said driving and shooting), the sandbox is pretty empty
gta v sp is a great game imo. average by gta standards, and lacking in good writing here and there (i really wish we didn't have 3 main characters), but still great otherwise

i don't remember doing much in ANY gta game's singleplayer mode once the story was finished tbh

Maybe its my nostalgia glasses but i somehow played SA and IV way longer after having finished the story. Which is admitedly odd because IV is even more lackluster than V in many areas
Foot? Take-Two is shooting itself in the head with this bullshit. The only reason a lot of people even bought GTAV on PC was for the modding, and killing modding is killing the reason to keep the game installed for those people.
Who wants 65GB taking up space on your SSD (Which is required the loading is so terrible) when the big NO FUN ALLOWED sign just got hammered down. 'Our fun or No fun' is Take 2's motto. There's a LOT of potential for fun with mods, for customizing the game with them, for the huge popularity in role playing with them (Think of the Eli guy, he had 20,000 dollars donated before he ever streamed once, and had 40,000 viewers the DAY he started) and For extending the life time beyond what came vanilla without a stupid grind and playing online
All of that, gone, because you want to put out shitty things to grind for, and sell the ability to skip the grind
Piss off
People love to shit on Howard for lying, but you bet your ass the games his company puts out will out live anything Take 2 does because of the mod support

You are completely right, I don't care for the story, characters or singelplayer, also the game left out a ton of small features from the older games.

i get what you mean, but i can't pinpoint what IV has either. the driving was good (in its own way), the crashes were great, and the gunplay was solid, too. i guess you can chalk it up to good gameplay that doesn't rely on gimmicks, which is what shit like tennis, golf and stock trading felt like in V
Maybe its my nostalgia glasses but i somehow played SA and IV way longer after having finished the story. Which is admitedly odd because IV is even more lackluster than V in many areas
San Andreas legit had a lot to do afterwards if you wanted to go for completion. And more importantly, completing them actually affected the game, like with gang wars and shit. I did play a lot of IV but it was more for dicking around.
I think I just played them more because back then, having a large world open sandbox was a more novel concept. Now pretty much every AAA game has it so it's not special, and what used to set GTA apart. So now the flaws in gameplay are more obvious.
I did enjoy GTA V, but it didn't have the same lasting appeal for some reason.
People saying GTA IV is better than V obviously don't remember that the game had no planes, no parachutes, incredibly shitty friend activities, terrible side quests and repetitive missions.
Oh, and only 15 weapons in the whole game, all categories included.

It had good online modes though which surprisingly (or not) made it more fun than how gta v's online is today.
[editline]15th June 2017[/editline]
Also they added parachutes in the TBOGT dlc.
Oh, and only 15 weapons in the whole game, all categories included.
But the problem with all the guns in GTA V most of them felt almost the exact same. At least in previous ones like in IV you could tell they all had different stats instead of them all being laser guns.
That's what i hated most about V the gunplay was shit. It felt fluid but all the guns felt so weak and that combined with the downgraded physics and everything dying in 2 or 3 shots.
Just pointing out that ingame movies in GTA V used mods made possible by OpenIV and similar tools in GTAIV:

ENB with the infamous red sky bug used for dramatic purposes

Also there is a petition with 6k signatures now, in case someone would like to sign it, I sure did:

Don't forget piss poor vehicle selection in general, there is like 4 sports cars in IV and 0 whacky shit, 0 military vehicles until APC in dlc, no bicycles
The nostalgia for IV is strong

i don't care for wacky vehicles and quirky guns. i care for fun, challenging gameplay, and IV has a lot more of that than V
i cant really stand gta4 anymore. the gunplay just feels really off ever since i played max payne 3 and then gtav

There are still mods being made for it, and then the SAMP and MTA communities are active still, even if a lot of them are Russian. ENBSeries mods, fancy cars, new areas, there's a lot to be gotten from the San Andreas communities even today.
I was going to eventually buy GTA V for PC when i get a computer that could actually run it decently
yeah, fuck that shit
take two can take two up in their asses, i'm buying My Summer Car instead
GTA4 was a less quirky, more realistic direction for GTA, so of course it lacked all the wackiness of its predecessors. But that was fine by me, I much preferred IV's story over V, the ending of V felt rushed as all fuck while there's a nice build up in IV's story before a good ol' fashioned show down at the end.
I also preferred the gunplay, cover system and driving in IV over V, so talk about conflicting experiences. :v:

Do it, My Summer Car is an amazing game and a fraction of the price.
Perkele!

shark cards are for online though

actually, blame 9/11 for that one

Nah, planes wouldn't make sense with only one airfield and at that map size.

I know, i would have bought it the moment it became available if my piece of shit computer could run it

There's no point in shark cards if you can spawn what you want in singleplayer though, take two are butthurt at people like me that just used a mod menu to put the ramp car or whatever in singleplayer then never played online
Apparently they are also butthurt at people for just using custom cars with openiv instead of the spam of supercars online

well, they're going to get far less players across the board because of this force either way
thanks taketwo
